  1. That worked out well. Thanks!
  2. I have both. The 150 with its Mag Z brakes is the more versatile reel for normal bass baits, including frogs, and will handle your occasional small swimbaits just fine. It has plenty of line capacity.
  3. I've been using 50lb Daiwa J8 for the past 5 years and still have every frog I've bought over the same time span. Just sayin'.
  4. You're welcome. Then the 150 will do the job well, especially if you intend to throw frogs weighing down to a 1/2oz. The 200 struggles with lighter frogs. Tie on a leader for the small swimbaits you intend to throw occasionally, and you'll get by just fine with the 150, or just buy a spare spool so you can swap out the braid spool on the spot. They're about $45.
  5. Yes. I use a 7spd Catalina TW/Zillion HD for these purposes and will be doing the same with the 150 using lighter swimbaits. I seem to catch fish just fine with it. Understand that a small swimbait/glide isn't a necessarily a chuck and wind bait. You're often varying your retrieve rate with short stops, longer pauses, and twitches mixed in. 120 size glides aren't high resistance baits anyway and crank down wakes like a Shellcracker G2 are handled just fine with a 7 spd. Doesn't bother me in the least, and I have no issue with slowing down my retrieve with baits where I've observed that I need to.
  6. The Tat150 will do just fine then. Great reel. Just got another one.
  7. Dunno about that. It's very pricey, and built to chuck aerodynamic baits from 1-3 oz. It's intended to be a salt bay reel as far as I can tell.
  8. That one's there for the articulated kick lever. The larger spring on top is doing the heavy lifting. Crazy that you can get all of those build elements plus an extra spool for 66 beans.

  10. You're fishing a 75' wide super shallow river. A fast sinking line is the last thing you want with big treble swim baits in this situation. The smallies you're targeting are going to dive hard into cover and you'll want as much horsepower as possible to get them back up to the surface. I wouldn't trust small diameter fluoro for this at all. The Izorline XXX is a good middle ground between fluoro and mono. It sinks slightly more than mono, but just slightly.
  11. I guess I won't be having a bass sandwich for lunch.
  12. It would be harder on a 300 sized reel with a 43 mm tall wide spool where the IPT is much greater, but with the line out on your XG K's 34 mm tall x 25mm wide spool the IPT will be much less. Don't sweat it if you're not down with buying another reel. Try it first and see.
  13. Maybe the 2nd time will be the charm.
  14. Hopefully the mods will forgive the 16 seconds of promo found at 6:44 into this 20 minute vid. It's not linked to a tackle retailer. If not, I apologize for posting it. Otherwise, this is a good one! Check out the additional links in the description for interviews with the guy that conducted the study. # @Catt
  15. My brother knocked out one of my single foot guides on the backcast. It was fine otherwise. Fit back in snugly. I used a little epoxy gel to set it back in. Can't even tell. That was two years ago, and this rod gets a ton of use.
  16. I've hunted around. Can't find it.
  17. If Daiwa employed the same scheme in the Coastal 80 as they did in the Tat 300 to achieve double bearing pinion support that they're claiming the 80 has, there will be a bearing on the spool. If that's the case, then no.
  18. That's for sure. It holds a lot of line with its 38mm T x 28mm w spool. Its arbor is very small in diameter. Tat 200 on the left. 150 on the right.
  19. @Ohioguy25 You'll be casting from a seated position on a kayak with a 7.5' rod. You can't cast very far in this situation. Your 200K will be fine with .018 line. You won't come close to spooling it. 650 yds of Big Game 20lb costs $10.99, so find out for yourself. If I'm wrong, and I'm not, you won't burst into flames if you take a chance. We're talking about 3 thousandths of an inch difference between .015 and .018. Your K will have plenty of line left after a typical cast and it's an 8spd, so IPT won't be a big issue. BTW, 20lb Big Game is very under-rated. It's remarkably strong. Super knot strength too. I have never backlashed a bait off using it. I have never been broken off either. The Izorline 20lb feels more crisp than BG. A bit less stretch. Another affordable and reliable option. If you're simply itching for another reel, then a Tatula 200 is a good choice for the baits you've mentioned. Its tall spool with its quite small arbor holds a chit ton of line. Not that you'll ever come close to needing it given how you intend to use it. Also, heavier line just flies through the T-Wing, which is a plus.
  20. If all you've got is 26 clams + tax, go fishing and be happy. However, I'm with the Tard on this point-Coarse thread screws cycled in and out of plastic turns me off as I service my reels often. I'd probably just avoid that altogether and just fish it to death.
  21. I'll pass that nugget of wisdom on to all the guys here that are fishing shallow waters that are 100% loaded with cover yet somehow manage to catch better fish on treble'd swimbaits all the time. I don't expect someone in your exalted position to pay attention to any of my posts here, but I've mentioned over and over again that I'm often fishing in waters loaded with pads. It's very easy for a fish caught away from them to run into them. For that reason, combined with dense milfoil everywhere, the only insanity would be to use line which is marginal for the situation. Do it here and you'll get broken off. Guaranteed. And there's nothing wrong with 100' of payed out .018 line on a 200 size reel. It's kayak fishing from a seated position with a 7' 1/2" rod we're talking about here. Many casts will be to targets which is less than that on average, so this isn't the cardinal sin you're making it out to be. @Ohioguy25 will get by just fine right now with the reel he currently owns. BTW, for all of the 300 sized reels I have I'm most often fishing with a Daiwa Catalina TW 100 on my yak throwing baits between 1 oz to 2.5 ozs. It's my light setup, and I simply like using it. Regardless of its "100" nomenclature, its 36mm tall by 28mm wide spool holds a little bit more line than a Curado 200. It works out just fine with .018 line. The fish don't seem to mind, or perhaps they're insane.
