  1. Anyone use one? How do they compare to the Revo reels? For the right price they may be nice. Thoughts? Might have to give one a try.
  2. Looks like a vintage Langley reel. Very nice!
  3. He does and he is a darn nice guy too! A wealth of knowledge and a fine fisherman.
  4. Here in PA, my friend got one for $20. What a heck of a deal for something to keep in the truck/car.
  5. Happy Birthday and enjoy!
  6. I was able to get my hands on a Gen 5 Revo SX in the store today and they impressed me more than other recent generations. 1. Box is now white and stands out on store shelves (why I saw it so quickly). This has nothing to do with anything outside of trying to stand out to anglers looking on the shelf. Little details count and I think this was a good one. 2. The feel is actually pretty incredible. If I were to close my eyes and turn the handle, I would be hard pressed to not think I was using a $200+ Shimano or Daiwa. Little/no backplay in handle, clicking drag, etc. Matte dark gray finish is classy. 3. Drag is strong and handle knobs are great. Larger than ever knobs give great grip and are very comfortable. Lots of power and torque. 4. The palmability (for my hands at least) is wonderful. I put it on a rod and it disappears in my hands. 5. Some may say (like Daiwa) that many models look the same. That is commonplace with many brands going back 15+ years. It's not just Abu. It can be monotonous but I don't think its going anywhere as it is easier to add different parts to the same frame rather than re-tool an entire reel. I have to say that I am actually impressed with the new Revo line. I have not felt that since the Gen 1 or 2 reels. I hope this helps! Best wishes on the water!
  7. Now is a great time to get an AE carbon fiber handle. Shipping may take a while but you pay 1/5th of the cost of an RCS and they are great. I myself love the handles and there are so many brands and options to choose from.
  8. But you have to pay the upcharge on shipping for the oversize rod which is $40.
  9. Mat Perch seems to be the nicest pattern of the perch patterns to me...unless you want to go the route of Secret Oikawa!
  10. I know...I ordered some nice stuff. Is anything still working?
  11. Has Pure Fishing stopped the use of the codes?
  12. I have a few containers of Abu Garcia reel oil from the late 1970s/early 1980s that are still just fine.
  13. I have had mine for a few years in the garage but keep the lid closed tightly and so far it has been good to go.
  14. Tackle Direct offered the Kyohga reel a few years ago for like $149 and I think it was a mistake. I bought one not realizing it was a jigging reel thinking I could just swap the handle. It was beautiful in person. The IP79 is a classic! That is part of my collection of reels that are NIB of the OG Zillion and TD-Z style frame. I bet that cost you a pretty penny! Good looking reels!
  15. Two of the rods from my Pure Fishing orders arrived with damage. I sent an email to Abu directly but I am not sure what to expect. However, if you ordered a Veritas rod with the coupon, it took like the price of a Revo X casting reel to $30 shipped.
  16. I have one with a Revo S (Gen1) on it. It is a GREAT rod and at $20 it is a steal! Can someone PM me a code that works? Thank you!
  17. ...oops didn't read original post in full.
  18. Ordered a Fenwick Elite Bass 610MLXF spinning rod. Maybe it will mimic the coveted Smallmouth Series from a few years back!
  19. Anyone have the new 50 code?
  20. The 5500C was made available to the public in 1973. There are some 1972 reel foot models out there but they are known as "Phantoms" and are quite rare. The 5500C was the high speed version (4.7:1) gear ratio compared to the black 5000C. The "C" means it has ball bearings as the 5000 or even the later 5500 had brass bushings. On pre-1980 models, there would two spool tension knobs. One on the left place and one on the right. Both could center the spool. On the spool itself were two small metal bars that each housed a small brake weight. They made different sizes. In 1978, Abu released the CA series which featured the new "palming plate" on the left and the tension knob on that side was now gone. Then there were the LightCast models, the AL, the regular "C" models all with the palming plate. In about 1989, Abu Garcia released the "C3" series which had three ball bearings. They looked about the same until 2001. Then in the mid-2000s the look of the C3 reels took on the more modern look of today's current lineup. The two prong brakes were replaced with "Ultra Cast" design and eventually 4 and then 6 brake configurations. You can clip the brakes in or out for as little or as much centrifugal braking that you desire but make sure you use opposites to clip in or out. Your thumb is your friend on these reels. I got my start under 10 using Ambassadeur reels so I educated my thumb from a young age.
  21. Yep. That's the red one.
  22. This was a Cabela's exclusive in 2007. Anyone have one? Thanks and please let me know.
  23. Pictures resized and uploaded.
  24. Sorry, working on it...says they are too big!
