  1. I might try that instead and just run a short 10-12" leader to avoid having to pass it through the micro guides. I may have a hard flouro line that's also too slick.
  2. I usually bounce my neds off the bottom, so I either see the line move before I bounce the ned, or I feel a little resistance in the rod when I bounce the ned. It's been my favorite bait this year, with the texas rig style hook it's incredibly versatile.
  3. I've been trying to tie 50lb braid to 20lb flouro, and I am getting consistently tight wraps. But after tying my half hitches, I begin to cinch the whole knot and the flouro always slips out of the braid. Are the lines too big that I'm using for this know, the braid doesn't seem to be digging into the flouro to grab it, and I never see the line changing color, just slips. Any tips? I want to use the FG knot for flouro leader vs other knots due to having micro guides on my rods. Thank you
  4. I've been struggling the last few weeks. I primarily fish larger ponds and smaller lakes, and it's been a grind. I've had the most luck pulling fish out of lay downs, and that's about it. The ponds I fish are heavily over grown, and come summer, it's almost strictly frogging. This year the frog bite has been terrible, where as last year I couldnt keep them off the frog. The bulk of the fish I've caught have been on the ned rig this year, that bait saved my year lol. Been chasing this "fall transition", and the few fish I've caught didn't look to be fattening up yet. Also haven't seen any bait busting the surface like I usually do when they're getting chased around up shallow. Needless to say, I have no idea what I'm doing out there right now. Water temp was 64 F, air temp 80 F in Mass.....
  5. I have a Daiwa Spinmatic 5'6", 4pc. Like others have said it's a great UL rod, I use it for trout. Reel I'm using the piscifun carbon x 1000, a bit underwhelming, not as smooth as I'd hoped it'd be given all the reviews online. I'll be upgrading to a Daiwa Tatula LT 1000 since my 2000 has been great for bass fishing, and it's the lightest reel I've ever held.
  6. I've really been struggling to find the fish last 2 weeks. 3 weeks ago I couldnt keep the fish off whatever and where ever I was throwing. Frog in the slop, texas rig or jig at structure, top water poppers, whatever. Now, I'm not getting bit around structure jigging or texas rigged, weightless senko, top water frog bite through the mats is all but gone, crank bait hasn't produces, spinner bait, chatter bait, the list goes on lol. Only fish on my last trip this weekend was a dink flipping a rage menace through the mat lol. Hoping things turn around.
  7. I am having a hard time finding the fish right now. Was doing quite well this spring and summer, but right now I'm getting my butt kicked.
  8. Caught a new PB today, at a lake that's always been slow for me (numbers wise). I know the lake has big fish, but with so many deep stumps you really need electronics or luck. I guess I had luck today, maybe it was the pants. 4lbs 12 oz via Rebel Pop-R
  9. I didn't think it was possible, but I caught a fish on a Westin Danny the Duck. Got the lure as a joke gift, showed them! 3lbs 3oz
  10. Found a new lake to checkout, picked the worst day to go out in a sit in kayak, started out cloudy then to a torrential downpour lol. Only stayed out for 3 hours, caught 2 1.5lb'rs and this 2.5lb'r. Top water bite. Went back to that same lake, got there late, 9am, and stayed till 6pm just as the bite was turning up. Caught a few dink 1.5lb fish, a 2.5lb and this 3lb. Slow day, very hot, sunny, no clouds, almost no action on the lily pads, and spent most of the day exploring and learning what to do. Not very productive fishing wise, but not a total bust. I need to stick to going out after 3-4pm, or learn how to fish in the heat lol. Lake seemed to be 8-10ft deep, i should have tried to fish that deeper water vs throwing worms and frogs around vegetation all day.
  11. Same, except I haven't broke 5lbs. I fish mostly small lakes and ponds on my kayak. I catch plenty of 3-3.5lb'rs, so no complaints from me all things considered. I know there's bigger fish out there, I just need to figure them out. Curious if 5lb+ are common in this area or not.
  12. I'm running the Timberline towers, and Jetstream cross bars. I like the whole setup a lot, keeps my truck from getting banged up when loading, and makes it a lot easier to load in general. I don't notice any extra noise or mpg loss, the 4runner isn't really aerodynamic in general lol.
  13. 2013 4Runner with a Yakima rack / Showdown kayak lift.
  14. Spent 4th of July week at the Cape, never fished there before. Went out 3 times, twice at the same lake. First lake best I could do was a 1.5lb'r, and a few dinks. Water was crystal clear, mostly shallow, water temps in the 80's, overall a slow day. Second lake was right by the house we were renting, first day was similar, pretty slow with a 1.5lb'r via senko being the best. The place looked like it would hold nice fish, so I went back and focused on fishing shaded little holes, and deeper water with long grass. The first days exploring paid off, and I spent most of my time in those areas with decent results. 2lbs via wacky rig senko skipped into a shady nook 3lbs with a popping pad crasher working the top of the long grassy deeper part of the lake and a 3.5lb'r, same area with the popping pad crasher. The fish absolutely hammered the frog. Caught a few more working the grass area on a lipless crank, nothing quite as nice, but still plenty fun. My local honey hole has been slow, the entire lake is now one giant mat, so it's been tough to find the fish since I'm assuming they're spread out. The big mat used to be 7-8 smaller mats so it was easier to find the fish and bait. Last nights catch on a live target 65T frog.
  15. I checked out West Res yesterday, water temp was 82, clear blue skies, and no wind. Caught 2 little 1-1.5lb'rs. Went back today, a little later in the day and started catching some fish around 3-4pm. Used the popping frog in some deeper water with long grass. Was a little windy, so I had to really pop the frog to call the fish, but man they absolutely destroyed the frog. Lol My Cape PB, 3.5lbs 3lb 1lb And a 2lb via wacky senko. Skipped under a tree into some some shade right up against the bank. Today was my 3rd day on the water, and actually my last, so really happy I got into some good fish. Thanks for the help guys, can't wait to come back and try some more spots next year, and maybe try some striper fishing at the canal.
  16. I'm at the cape for the week, anyone know of any decent kayak fishing spots around Harwich? I went to Long Pond in Yarmouth this morning, caught a few, but the water was in the mid 80's and there's not much shade, cover, or structure there, so fishing was tough.
  17. Teckel Sprinker (it basically a Whopper plopper that plays better around weeds) Live Target hollow body frog (my hook up ratio has gone up tremendously vs even when I used the booyah pad crasher) Whopper plopper 90 (it just catches fish) I've been fishing small lakes with a ton of vegetation lately, so I've been primarily using the hollow body frog, and the Teckel when there's some gaps in the muck I can reel across.
  18. Daiwa AIRD-X + Abu Garcia Pro Max = $49 + $73 = a darn good setup. I now have 3 of these rods, a 6'6" medium fast, and 2 7' MH fast (1 spinning, 1 bait caster), and these are really great rods for the money. I find the rods to be sensitive, light, built well, nice guides, and I don't feel I'm missing much when compared to my Lews Speed Stick TP-1, which cost quite a bit more. At the same time, I also don't have any issues with my 15 year old 6' medium 2 piece Ugly Stick. People claim those are not sensitive or they're numb feeling, but I can feel fish on a senko and crank bait thumps just fine, so idk lol.
  19. I have a Lews Speed Stick TP-1, 7' MH, really like that rod. Light, sensitive, nice guides, and strong enough to pull decent fish out of the thick stuff. $100 rod.
  20. Budget setup, I love these rods.
  21. You're the real MVP dude.
  22. Not to sidetrack the trout debate, but this level of cheating, and blatant disregard for fish well being is seriously going to damage bass tournament fishing. For me personally, kind of wouldn't mind if bass tournament fishing scaled back a lot. Big cash prizes, and big sponsorship money on the line will always promote this type of behavior, it's that simple. Where there's big money to be made, someone will find a way to cheat the system, the fish and honest anglers will pay the price.
  23. I think the BBRC handing out insane cash prizes for the largest bass caught probably started Mike Long's addiction to cheating. Once you throw that much money into the mix, this type of behavior has to be expected, but Mike Long pushed it to the limit. I'm glad he has been exposed, and in a way that's undisputable. He was going to get caught regardless, or at least have the asterisks next to all his records. In today's age where most anglers have a GoPro taping cast to catches, and Mike Long literally has no video showing that, it's pretty clear he's no angler lol. I drift my car at the track, and it's the same thing, it's easy to separate the good drivers from the bad drivers. The bad drivers only post photos of them driving, good drivers post in-car video of themselves driving. Lol
  24. Caught my PB 4.5 lb'r on a 4" senko wacky rigged, skipped it under a low hanging tree. The leaves and limbs were only 1-2' above the water, but over hanging the water a good 5'. Small lake, a lot of vegetation and muck on the surface with pockets of open water. Sun was out after being overcast and sprinkling rain all morning, 6pm, skipped the senko under the tree and let it sink. Didn't even feel or see the line move, I just checked for tension and the senko would not budge. So I set the hook and the fight was on. Caught on a 15 year old 2 pc 6' ugly stik, medium action, had the rod bent in half lol.
  25. Caught my PB yesterday, 4.5 lbs Also caught these two 3 lb'rs, and a handfu of 1-2 lb'rs.
