I guess I got lucky, the rod I purchased from Dick's was well wrapped and protected, but it was in a box. Funny thing with TW, I bought a 2 piece rod from them and it arrived put together in an 8' tube. I guess they don't sell too many and just used what they normally use for a 1 piece. The delivery guy left it in my driveway, didn't even put it on the porch. I'm sure they love those odd shaped items.

One morning I was fishing at a reservoir in San Diego. Middle of the city. I was at the end of a metal dock and I heard the clank of somebody walking onto it. I turned around and there's a deer walking onto the dock! We stare at each other for a minute and it proceeds to jump off into the water and swim across the lake. I don't remember if I caught any fish that day, but I sure remember the deer.

If he wants to save $20, I read the Nasci is exactly the same as the Sahara but with 4 extra seals, which is why the Nasci is rated for saltwater. Drag, gear ratios, etc are all the same between them.

I use primarily spinning gear for all the reasons already stated. That said, I just can't seem to get any cadence going with spinning gear for jerk baits or walking the dog topwaters. Too much weight hanging underneath and swinging every time I move the bait. I only use baitcasters for those techniques any more.

In SoCal, there is a local chain, Turners, that carries a nice fishing backpack. Comes with 4 3600 boxes that fit in the bottom (with a zippered opening on the back so you access them directly), a big open section on top that's bigger than a six pack and lots of side pockets. Since they aren't a national chain, I thought they just rebranded somebody else's backpack, but I haven't found anything like it on the web. A little on the heavy side, but it stands upright without any boxes in the bottom, so it's sturdy.

I just returned that exact rod in a medium that I was going to use for the exact same thing. I liked the split grip, so I thought I would order one (nobody actually carries them around here). It was tip heavy with both a Shimano Sahara 1000 and a Shimano Nasci 3000. The foregrip is short, so one finger always rested on the rod. It also has micro guides, which seemed to limit casting distance on a Cabella's Fish Eagle I have. I have a St. Croix Premier in a 7'6" MLF and much prefer the handle and guides on that to the Mojo Bass. Seemed like a good quality rod, very light and responsive (at least in the living room) so if those things don't bother you, I think you will be happy with it.
