  1. yea they're all new. spooled with fluoro.
  2. I recently sold off all of my curado and citica i's and replaced them with new curado k's. I've noticed you really have to have the drag essentially all the way tight or you can pull line off pretty easily. Is this normal? I can't imagine I got a bunch of lemons but it doesn't seem right. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, what lb test would you use for a big worm setup? I like 10" power worms with 3/8 oz tungsten bullet. Thanks, Billy
  3. Since I like using more expensive fluorocarbon line like sunline sniper, I'm thinking about starting to fill the first 2/3 of my reels with braid. Rather than filling the entire spool with fluoro. Looking at the capacity specs on shimano's website, it looks like a ci4 stradic 2500 can hold 200 yards of 6 lb test mono. According to power pro spec chart, 20 lb braid has the same diameter of 6 lb test mono. So, you'd think that same stradic could hold 200 yards of 20 lb braid. But, according to shimano, that reel only holds like 120 yards of 20 lb test braid. This doesn't seem to make sense. Can anyone explain this?
  4. oh wow, good to know. i've had a mojo in the past and was not impressed. i hear you, the rod doesn't have to be anything special when you're fishing something like a crank, but i like them to be real sensitive when they're for plastics.
  5. Hey, Just looking to see what you think about the Shimano Curado split grip casting rods? I'm looking to add a couple rods mainly for texas rigging worms and craws. I'm mainly a finesse fisherman... I have two st croix legend tournament bass spinning rods that I fish a lot of shakeyhead and wacky worms with. I do have one legend tournament in casting that I use for texas rigs. But like I said looking to add a couple more rods for this technique. Considering the curado because I like the price point and the fact that there is a medium heavy extra fast model - I really like extra fast for bottom contact baits. How do you guys like the curado split grip rods? Is there a major drop off between something like a legend tournament and a curado?
  6. I don't do a ton of cranking but I do want to be able to throw deep cranks. I recently picked up some Norman DD22's and a medium heavy moderate action st croix. Just wondering if this Citica 201 I have will work here? It has a 26" inch per turn which seems about right from what I have read.. but I'm not sure if this reel can handle pulling baits that will create so much drag. Love to hear your thoughts.
  7. hey man, the 1/4 is just the bullet weight on the t rig, and just the jig weight without trailer. yea i know it's not necessarily heavy but it is for me, as a finesse fisherman. billy
  8. Hey guys, I do a lot of finesse fishing. By that I mean 1/16 oz shakey with trick worm, 1/8 t rig with 7" power worm, etc. I use a medium xf legend tournament bass spinning rod rated 3/16 - 5/8 with a ci4 2500 for this. I love it. I'm looking to get a rod that's good for throwing 1/4 - 3/8 jigs with craw trailer and 1/4 texas rigged 8.5" power worms. What would be ideal for this? Options I've considered are: 7' mhf avid x spinning rated 3/8 - 3/4 7'1" mhxf legend tournament bass spinning rated 5/16 - 3/4 7' mf avid x casting rated 1/4 - 5/8 7' mhf avid x casting rated 3/8 - 1 7'1" mhxf avid x casting rated 1/4 - 3/4 7'1" mf legend tournament bass casting rated 1/4 - 5/8 7'1" mhf legend tournament bass casting rated 3/8 - 1 7'1" mhxf legend tournament bass casting rated 5/16 - 3/4 I honestly prefer spinning for bottom contact so between the mhf avid x spinning and mhxf legend tournament bass spinning which would you recommend? I know that 1/4+ jigs and t rigs would typically be thrown on casting so that is why I'm considering some of those casting models. Let me know what you think. Billy
  9. Alright I'm sure this has been asked before but just looking for more opinions. Looking for a couple 6'6" mf spinning rods for light jerkbait and topwater. Not looking to go crazy here since I don't think you need any crazy sensitivity for these applications, and I just dropped a buncha $ on a couple LTB and CI4+ for plastics. I'm trying to decide between the clarus and the triumph. Which would you pick? Or should I consider something else in the $80 range.
  10. I think they are gen two. Cork grips. You telling me I have something to be real excited about?! I thought it was a steal at $75 a piece! They are 6'6" though and I just bought two LTB 7' mf so it almost seems redundant if these won't work as I was hoping for jerks and topwater up to 3/8 or 1/2 ounce.
  11. I'm almost thinking of selling them and just going with the 6'6" shimano clarus spinning medium fast. I know it's quite a drop from the crucial down to the clarus, but I like how the medium clarus is rated 3/16-5/8. I also used to have a couple clarus years ago (obviously older models) that I thought were nice. The new ones look good with the split grips. Anyone have any experience or advice here? Basically I'd hate to stick with the crucial and feel limited on what I can throw. I'd hate to feel like I can only throw zara puppies just because the full size spook is over the crucial's recommended rating at 1/2 ounce. Haha, I'm real ocd about my setups. I feel like the clarus CSS66MD fits the bill for me here... decent rods that would work well for spooks/poppers and jerkbaits like the husky jerk. I don't throw real heavy topwater or jerks so I think the medium fast is perfect, don't think I need the medium heavy, but open to thoughts. I'm also not trying to break the bank because i just splurged on those two LTB and CI4+. That's why I was stoked on those crucials working out to about $75 each.
  12. i'd like to know the same kind of thing on the spinning front.. are the new sahara's (seeing as they have x ship and hagane) as good as a stradic from say 5-6 years ago?
  13. shimano citica on sale right now at tackle warehouse for $125.
  14. shimano citica... 20 percent off on tackle warehouse right now. pretty sure it's almost identical to the curado, with the only exception being that it is not rated for saltwater. i have a 6 something to 1 on my glass cranking rod, and a 7 something to 1 on my spinnerbait rod. love them both. i went with the lower gear ration for my cranking rod based on lots of posts i read here, but looking back i might even prefer a higher gear ratio like a standard 7 to 1. i definitely would not go lower than 6 to 1, unless you plan on fishing a lot of 18+ foot divers.
  15. 12 lb yo zuri copolymer on most of my casting reels... love it.
  16. Hey guys, I just scored two 6'6" shimano crucial spinning medium power fast action on ebay.. $150 for the pair so I couldn't pass it up. I notice they are rated just 1/8-3/8. This is a little lower than most medium fast spinning rods these days. What would you use these for if you had them? I'm going to put stradic 2500 on each. I have been looking for two 6'6" spinning rods.. one for topwater (zara puppy, zara spook, pop-r) and one for jerkbaits. I figure a 6'6" medium power fast action is a good rod for each of these ideas. But, I do wish these rods were rated for just a bit more than 3/8 ounce. A heddon zara spook is a half ounce for example.. technically over the rod's rating of up to 3/8. I'm sure I can stretch a rod rated for 3/8 to 1/2 though, what do you think? It bothers me a little bit haha. Will these work for lighter topwater and lighter jerkbaits or would you use them for something else? I recently picked up two spinning legend tournament bass 7' designed for plastics. Maybe I end up using these crucials for more finesse techniques if it turns out they wouldn't be good for topwater and jerks. I love fishing finesse on spinning. Honestly 4 rods for it wouldn't be too much for me... one wacky, one shakey, a 1/8 t rig with a worm, and a 3/16 t rig with a craw for example. Haha. But is 6'6" kind of short for that kind of thing? I liked the length with the idea of topwater and jerkbaits in mind, because I think something a little shorter than your typical 7' makes sense, so that you're not slapping the water etc. What would you do?
