  1. I was going to say get the outback and I’m glad you did! The compass is a great fishing kayak, but it ain’t the outback. I’m new to Hobie having just picked up a PA12 about a month ago, but I’ve demoed both of your choices and you definitely made the right choice. Don’t be nervous about cartopping as I cartop my PA12 on my rav 4. There’s a trick to make cartopping alone effortless...get you a non slip mat and put it on the back of your car, tilt the nose up on the non slip bath mat, grab the back of the kayak, lift up and push across your roof racks... do the opposite to take it down.
  2. The lure is a great. I have a 13.5 with overdrive and it has performed great for me needs. If possible, check and see if you can find a local dealer so that you see it, touch it, and test it. If you have to end up settling for ACK then they have a great price on them now and probably for the foreseeable future. Feelfree has great customer service as well. One of the great things about the lure is that you can buy it as a paddle kayak and when you’re ready you can upgrade it to a pedal drive. The Other pedal drive to keep an eye on is the Old town topwater pdl (they have 10 and 12 footers)... Highly recommended
  3. Dobyns are great... I have one fury cb casting rod, and two Sierra spinning (medium light and medium)... great rods and great customer service.
  4. Tatula Elite! I have the 7’4 model of that same 7’2 model that you want and it’s a great rod! Spinnerbaits, jerk baits, cranks, blade baits, chatterbaits... great rod
  5. Guys catch 7’s and 8’s on occasion but I a good fish is probably 4-5 on average. A lot of pickerel are in a lot of the ponds and lakes. In general it’s pretty good fishing
