Inflatable PFD, auto or manual?
As an epileptic, I've considered an auto PFD for fishing from the banks when I am alone in the morning. Most accidents are beyond our control. We can only anticipate and be prepared for the worst.

Brand new to bass fishing
For very shallow areas Mann's Baby Minus One can be effective. Rebel poppers (and knockoffs) may be effective earlier in the morning. Poppers may pull bass from the weeds or if may sometimes pull them up from surprisingly deep areas.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
Just to close the loop, I used an eBay coupon to pick up an OG Tatula 7' mf spinning rod for <$100.1 For now, a Kister Argon MH finesse rod with a really soft tip will see the cranking duties.

Daiwa spinning reel
Historically, the Daiwas have had spools of wider diameter the Shimanos of similar size designations. I'm a bit out of date and this may longer be true... While I don't need the extra capacity, I've always felt the larger diameter contribute to less line memory and greater casting distance.

What Do You Call Those Wrap Things...?
Just occurred to me, these product names are sound like euphemisms for something else. Tomorrow I'm sure I'll get some looks from the guys at work when I say I spent my night on the computer looking for Plug Jackets, Bait Sacks and Bait Gloves

Rod Advice after fishing some new setups XF vs F
I would guess that most bass rods are now designed with the intent to have the "backbone" to get LMB quickly away from thick cover that can tangle or break the line. Unlike open water where you have time to play the fish, LMB in cover need to be quickly pulled in, or they will be lost to the environment. When I started to get into bass fishing, I was shocked watching pros using 50lb braid to rapidly haul hawgs out of heavy cover. It didn't seem sporting. Now, I know that long fights can be very traumatic to the fish, so it is more sporting to get them out of the water and then back into it as soon as possible. I'd offer to take the LTW 63MLXF off your hands, but I already have one with tags waiting for its first use. I fish from shore and often need short rods to cast around trees and brush. I actually bought the LTW to be the lighter power compliment to my G Loomis IMX SJR723 that is a bit stiff for some smaller baits. WRangler, your gear is much too nice to sit around unused. Get to know the policies and protocol of the Flea Market, and you may find someone who will trade with you.

Rod Advice after fishing some new setups XF vs F
Is it because they feel too stiff, because you don't feel enough flex/give, or because of some other aspect that doesn't feel right? I grew up with fiberglass rods and later graphite composite. When I was first exposed to graphite bass rods they all felt like skinny broomsticks to me. I suspect if you have been using walleye rods, you may be used to lighter power rods that have more give thoughout the length of the rod. Bass rods usually need to be stiffer to set thick hooks through the tough mouths of LMB. As such, a 1 lb bass is not as "fun" to reel in. If I'm way off base, try to describe what you don't like and then how you would like it to feel when you're reeling in a fish. Good Luck!!

What Do You Call Those Wrap Things...?
Thanks!! That was it. For some reason my brain was locked on Lure Wallet and I was getting soft storage solutions. I'd swear Lure Wrap was one of my first searches. Hoodickies...

What Do You Call Those Wrap Things...?
What do you call those things things that wrap around the rod and lure that is attached to a hook keeper. I haven't found the key word in my searches yet... Also, it would be great if you can share details about your favorite designs and where to get them. Thanks!! Leon

New to Crankbaits
If you fish a lot of very shallow areas, Mann's Baby minus one and the Rebel Footloose may help prevent you from loosing a lot of baits on the bottom (0 to 1 ft deep). Bandit 100's work well to cover the 2 to 4 ft deep range.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
Thanks, I grew up with spinning reels and have had my fair share of line twist challenges. However, I'm already challenged with BC reels and have an even worse problems with backlashes (than line twist). Because of chemo I have neuropathy in my finger tips and a truly "numb thumb." So far, I still have pretty good feeling in my lower fingers and palms. I plan to use spinning combos this year because I won't have to rely on my tingly thumb and can use the technique that is more comfortable for me. By next year I plan to incorporate BC reels again. I'm figuring this will be a good year to send my reels to DVT.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
Years ago I had a couple of the trigger reels. They were all lot of fun for throwing spoons for trout and bluegills.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
Are these similar to the Kistler light medium heavy power rods? I have a Kistler Argon casting crank rod that was really nice with small cranks. Due to neuropathy from chemo, I'm looking for a spinning alternative.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
Although not designated as cranking rods, are the Fenwick Aetos mod fast Rods forgiving enough for treble hooks? The Falcon BuCoo/Lowrider rods also seem to be reported to have somewhat slower actions. I'm intrigued by the Daiwa Tatula rods, but assume they have more traditional fast action that will not excel with moving baits.

Suggestions for Crankbait Spinning Rods
It seems as though there are very few crankbait specific spinning rods, even though there are many for casting rods. I'm looking for suggestions for a moving / treble hook bait rod. It would be used mostly for shallow (baby minus one) cranks and the range would probably be 1/8 to 1/2 oz. Long casting distance would also be a plus. I'm not sure I can grab just any mod-fast spinning rod, since every manufacturer rates their rods differently. Thanks for your suggestions Leon

Can't cast P Line
New Rod, New Reel, New Line, light casting weight... Bunch of variables. Have you tried different combinations yet? For example, the new HEAVY rod may not be loading enough to cast the 1/2 oz weight. Also, give KVD Line & Lure a chance before tossing the P-Line. Granted, I don't have a lot of patience to do all of the experimenting myself, but I'm also too cheap to throw line in the trash without making sure it is really the line and not me

Best Rod and Reel Combo For Top Water
Before rushing out to feed the bait monkey, you may want to consider the technique you use for topwater. For instance, if you use a tip down approach for walk the dog baits, you may want (or need) a shorter rod. On the other hand, if you are tall or can get the "proper" action using a tip up approach, then you can use a longer rod that may get you greater casting distance. For me, I use a short rod to walk the dog. For poppers I use a longer rod so I get more casting distance.

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
Thanks, for tight spaces the LTW will compliment an SJR723. For open spaces Ì have a 7' MH Kistler Helium 2 LTX and a 7'2" Cumara ML drop shot rod. Eventually, I hope to upgrade my moving bait spinning rod.

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
Does brush scratchin' your butt, a tree branch trying to knock your hat off, and steep, loose dirt for footing - all at the same time - constitute tight conditions & limited space I'm not confident enough in my BC skills to rely solely on a casting rod/reel in these conditions. Kudos to OP and those who can

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
A bit off topic...what do you think of the LTWS63MLXF. I plan to use it as an aĺl purpose rod for quantity over quality. I can still return it to Cabelas if it is not practicaĺ. Thanks!

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
I have a 5'9" Cabelas XML casting rod. I think the XMLs were a great value. I don't see it currently listed, but if you are patient you may find a similar one on the auction site.

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
If you're not married to a BC rod, then you may find a wider selection of sub 6'6" spinning rods. After an hour of comparing it to an SJR 722, I picked up a St Croix LTW 6'3" on closeout. It had a lighter tip and seemed more sensitive (on carpet). Not saying that's the way you should go, but you will find more 6 ft options if you can go the spinning route. I don't use BC reels under trees any more. Quite the birds nest when the lures suddenly stop less than 10 ft from the start of a cast.

Rod and Reel... DD Crankbait vs Crankbait
Dude.... Chill, Show some patience On a Saturday night most folks are either resting so they can accomplish tasks in the morning or enjoying the company of friends. If you have a good question, you'll get responses the next day. Some of use are too busy (or sleeping) to be monitoring the forum all night long. I'm not expert on DD cranks because I can only reach the shallower areas of my local waters. From the responses above, you can see that it takes a lot of effort to get Deep Divers to the right depth. Longer, heavier power rods help you cast further and more quickly pull the dd crank to the right depth. Because of the resistance of the DD cranks, lower gearing makes it easier to reel in while the crank is at depth. If my summary is off, I'm sure someone will correct me. Good luck!!

Starting Over
Try different rods in your hands and on the water before buying a bunch of rods. You may find you like different brands for different techniques. Good luck!!
