  1. Those two can be done with a MH but I always like a M to help pin them a little better. Keep your spinning setup for ned rigs if you have room. I wouldn't bother with a heavy rod in a yak, maybe from the bank around heavy cover.
  2. My 3 yak rods are two 7MH and one 7M all casting. The MH are for jig/t rig, and spinnerbait. The medium usually has a square bill on it but can also be used for a plopper in a pinch. I fish out of a big rig fd and could carry two more combos with ease but I try to practice the kiss method in the yak.
  3. Must be your knots. I could pull a tube with both lines using an improved clinch.
  4. Daiwa J braid or power pro for me.
  5. Skip the neko and go with a shakey head for ledges, it's weedless and gets to the bottom much quicker. I have three spots where the bluff stair steps down to 25-40 feet and a spot remover jig with a trick worm gets them every time. I used to love throwing a senko wacky style but it can be a crap shoot as to weather you will get a fish or get hung up.
  6. Lews Wally Marshall classic signature series 7ML Sixty bucks at academy, paired it with a cheap clamshell lews 75 size reel. I have been thouroghly impressed with it for ned rigs. I've caught a ton of bass, crappie, and even a few walleye on the ned in the last two months. I know its probably an unpopular choice but at $85 it leaves the rest of your budget for ned jigs and finesse trd's. I have no clue how it would fair for drop shot, I don't drop shot anymore.
  7. Custom lite is my favorite. The spawn is almost over so they will be hammering shakey heads and Ned rigs. I have mine on a DTCO 47 7ML.
  8. If they are the old blue baitcasters, I remember them as the 153's. I doubt parts are even available but they were good reels, had mag z brakes and would cast light stuff well. I miss those days, they had some awesome reels Sol, Fuego, TDZ etc.
  9. Great reels, I have only fished a few of their rods. I have a few of the custom pro rods, an older tp1 cranking stick, and a tp1 black. I've had a blast with them and caught hundreds of bass with no problems. I could also care less where they are made, its not like manufacturing is ever coming back to the US.
  10. It's an aluminum frame, the C2's and the Z SLD are plastic frame reels. I highly doubt a 5-10lb bass would stress a plastic frame anyways.
  11. Not sponsored by them or anyone but I had great experience from the A and C and the original Z models. The older ones all had aluminum frames and the side plate was still attached when you opened it to adjust the brakes. I fish 5-7 days a week and had to oil the brake ring a little more frequently than other reels. I just prefer the slp reels or I'd probably still be using 13's for everything.
  12. St Croix Bass X or Mojo Bass are excellent rods and in your range. My daughter has three of the Mojo Bass rods in different actions. I've been using her 7MH for hair jigs since she's gone for college till summer break. I wouldn't recommend a DC reel for jigs unless you just want it for the cool sound. Lews Super Duty G, lews tourney pro, Curado K or one of the MGL variants.
  13. I was leery of the custom lite because it's not aluminum but after holding it I had to have it. My best fish with it last year was just a smidge over 5lbs pulled from under a lay down. I haven't ever noticed any flex and I've landed easily over a couple hundred fish with it over the last year. My only complaints are it isn't available in a 6 gear ratio and it doesn't have the speed keeper. I don't know much about tanso but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another reel made out of it.
  14. I have them both and would recommend either. I prefer the lite even though it's not aluminum. I've horsed plenty of fat girls out of heavy cover with mine and have no issues yet.
  15. If money isn't an issue go with the Loomis, you won't regret it. I'm not a fan of the handle on the poison, I held a couple and aside from the handle it felt nice.
  16. I second this, why waste the time and line. I use straight braid FC and mono on everything, only time I would consider a leader would be for a C rig but I never fish one anyways.
  17. 1/8th oz finesse jig no trailer. Every sv reel I've fished felt way over braked even with the spool tension backed way off. Some people love em and that's fine but I'll take a centrifugal or non sv mag reel any day.
  18. Lews Super Duty G. It has mag brakes and isn't over braked like the sv reels. Should be in your budget and will do 1/8 and up with ease. Has nice line capacity and palms very well.
  19. I threw swimbaits on it for years, it will do fine.
  20. I have two of those reels, one just like the pic and the Ike version with the 6 arms and for the umpteenth time it doesn't make any noise. But hey you're the expert.
  21. Well I've fished this same reel hard for over a year without ever hearing a sound along with multiple ACB reels so throw my experience right out the window.
  22. I have the same reel as in the video, a Revo Ike and a Revo MGX sitting here. I am in absolute silence and have tried every way possible to get these reels to make a noise like the one in the video. Brakes on full all the way to off and nothing. I guess mine are defective. If this is normal why doesn't a Shimano with svs brakes do the same thing? It's close to the same design, the blocks have to go back to rest at some point but they make no noise either. Anyways I'm done, I have better things to do like go fishing. To the OP disregard my posts, apparently all my reels are defective and silent.
  23. Well I must be deaf because none of my lews or abu's make that noise.
  24. That noise isn't normal. Take the Abu reels with the ivcb which is kind of similar to the ACB and they don't make the noise like in the video. The only noise my ACB reels ever make is a slight whining noise, that's when you know it's time to oil the brake ring. Just for blanks and giggles to the OP clean the brake ring with alcohol and let it dry then spread one drop of the supplied oil around the brake ring and see if it stops. I can't get any of my reels with the same braking system to make that sound dry or lubed. If that noise was "normal" I wouldn't own a lews reel with the ACB brake system as that noise would drive me crazy in about a minute.
  25. Just checked my hyper mag, lite, TP, and pro ti after wiping the brake ring dry and none of them make that sound. I free spooled them and turned the handle slow and fast and couldn't get any noise. Return it or call lews.
