  1. I've been seeing a lot of fish sitting around 15 foot of water on my fish finder. Most of what I fish are muddy grassy areas. What's the best way to target these fish? I feel like a lot of things I read and watch would only work good with a muddy bottom.
  2. I've been to thinking the hybrid setup is kind of hard to see detail. I'll try the split screen with 2d and DI and see how it looks. Thanks!
  3. That's what I was thinking but I thought a boulder would be more solid.
  4. I picked up my first fish finder and have taken it out a handful of times however I am still getting used to it. It's a Lowrance tripleshot Hook Reveal unit. I am curious as to what I am looking at in the screenshots? I'm not sure if my settings are screwed up or if what I am looking at is of interest.
  5. It's my goal to be able to skip a bait caster consistently by the end of the year. I've been doing a lot of research but it seems like a lot of what I am reading and watching is geared towards people who can already skip and it's just showing them ways on how they can improve. I get a decent skip every once in awhile but for the most part its birds nests and the bait hitting the water and not skipping. Any beginner tips on the best way to learn? A couple things I have been doing are underhand roll casts (I think that's what they are called) and keeping my elbow pinned to my side when casting. I am fishing from a kayak also so I don't know how much different I need to cast compared to a boat. I am standing up when skipping, or at least attempting to skip lol.
  6. I'm starting to do the same thing. I wanted to try a spool of good fluro before swapping all my reels over though. On a side note what connection knot are you using?
  7. I've heard seaguar on amazon isn't legit seaguar. Have you had this problem or does it all seem legit? Nice to hear about how long it's lasting for you. I always hear about people respooling fluro every couple of months. I do mine once a year and haven't ran into any problems so far! I've been thinking about Invizx also. Maybe I'll just start there.
  8. I'm getting sick of the memory on the red label and I'm wanting to start using more premium lunes. I've heard great things about Tatsu but I don't want to spend that much if it doesn't hold up. How often do you guys have to respool Tatsu? Any other suggestions for better casting and softer lines are appreciated!
  9. I am starting to take bass fishing more seriously and I am trying to learn as much as I can. One thing I have never done is bass fish during the spawning phases. I am curious if I could get some tips on what I should have done earlier this morning. I am fishing out of a kayak for starters. Water temp was 63 degrees. I saw what appeared to be several bass beds throughout the morning fishing. I haven't ever seen a bass on a bed before but these seemed like your typical bass beds. Random circles with rock bottoms in shallow water. I never saw any bass on these beds. I got one throwing a chatter bait into lilypands early in the morning but that was all for the day. I kept to the banks most of the day skipping under docks. Saw lots of bluegill and smaller 4-5 inch bass which I am guessing are last years spawn. I did paddle out and I marked what looked like bass on the fish finder. Given this is my first time using a fish finder so I could me mistaking it but they were orange/red streaks sitting on a drop off. I didn't have any lures to fish that effectively so I just moved on. First things first. Does it mean that the bass on that lake are in post spawn since I saw so many beds without bass on them? Second, when I am seeing so many smaller bluegill and baby bass does that mean I should move on? If there was a good sized bass lurking around wouldn't these bait fish just move on? Thanks for the help!
  10. Mind sharing what ALF stands for? I can't figure it out for the life of me lol.
  11. A G Loomis was always my first choice once I got into the $200 rod market. However I started hearing some people saying they have went down in quality and that got me a little concerned.
  12. I'm in Snohomish county and being in a kayak I can't fish super fast so I am wondering what kinds of areas to fish to try and maximize my chances at catching some bass. Thanks!
  13. I am looking at getting a new rod for squarebills and lipless cranks. I am trying to decide between the Dobyns KD 735CB, Phenix X series X10, or the G Loomis E6X 845C. Not sure what one to go for an unfortunately there aren't any shops near me that I can go to to get my hands on them. Any advise or other suggestions?
  14. I currently have a Daiwa Tatula glass rod that I think is a generation older than the current Tatula rods. It's a MH and I hate using it because it's pretty heavy. I'm wondering what's out there in the sub $200 range? More specifically I'm thinking about this rod being a lipless/ squarebill setup and using the Daiwa for the medium and deep divers. I've been doing some research and it seems like the composite rods are a good mix between glass and graphite. What's everyone's recommendation?
  15. It was less than a week from purchasing it so I just went ahead and ordered a new one and I'm returning the broken one. That way I don't have to deal with the long warranty process.
  16. I have the Nucanoe Flint and I like to standup when fishing the docks. With any sort of wind I get 2 maybe three casts in and I have to sit back down and paddle back to the dock. I've tried anchoring and then fishing the dock, picking up the anchor and going to the next dock and repeating but this is kind of a pain. I am thinking about maybe getting chain link as an anchor as it seems like this may be a little easier to pull up and down. Also thinking about a steak out pole. Any suggestions on what you guys do?
  17. I don't currently have space for anything bigger than a kayak so I am kind of forced into the kayak situation. However I just upgraded to a new kayak from a little sit inside kayak and it is worlds better. A good sit on top fishing kayak that is stable to stand on makes a ton of difference. It isn't going to be as cheap as a regular sit in but it is definitely worth it. I have also heard that a nicer paddle helps a ton. I ordered one and it won't come in until Thursday so I can't confirm that yet. The wind situation makes kayak fishing painful. Two things that will help is an anchor with a trolley system and/or a stakeout pole/ power pole for your shallow water situations. I would recommend upgrading kayaks if at all possible (given I don't know what you have as of now but it probably isn't ideal). I got the Nucanoe Flint and it comes in at around $1,000. I am able to stand up and fish and it cuts through the water pretty good. There is all sorts of possibilities with this kayak also. I just got a fish finder setup installed this weekend and that elevates it a little further.
  18. I was thinking this but tested the battery and it's got enough power. I am just going to return it and get another one.
  19. I took my hook out for the first time today. I was paddling around looking at the graph and then all of a sudden the screen went black. I tried pressing the power button, not holding, as I know that's how you adjust the brightness but it didn't do anything. It beeps like it's registering the press but nothing on the screen shows. I tried powering off and on several times and that hasn't helped. When powering on I can see a very faint hook logo and then it goes black. Any ideas of what's going on?
  20. I've seen those but I always though they would only be useful when throwing finesse baits? It seems like they don't have a lot of line on the spool and you may run out of line while power fishing. I could be totally wrong though as I have never tried them!
  21. I have smaller hands and my hand starts to get sore holding a bait caster all day. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on reels that fit better in the hand. I've heard some good things about the Daiwa Tatula 100 and I think I am going to give that a shot but I am wondering what else is out there?
  22. I have been using the Shimano red label fluoro and I am wanting to have something that cast's better. For braid I have the daiwa JBraid on right now and looking for something better.
