  1. for small jerkbaits like the pointer 78 I prefer a 6'6" medium action spinning rod (Loomis 782). I am able to cast them farther with a spinning rod. 8# P-line Floroclear.
  2. hair jig jerkbait grub
  3. you want relatively clear water when fishing jerkbaits. They are mainly a site bait.
  4. I have many......but top 4 in no particular order watermelon red flake black blue flake natural shad green pumpkin
  5. I have a Revo Premier and the drag on that is just plain terrible. I had 2 lb bass pulling drag and was unable to gain any line. You can cinch the drag all the way down and it still pulls out very easily. My STX's don't seem to do this. How much would it cost to have the drag on the Premier "beefed up"? Other than the drag I really like the reel...casts great and is smooth.
  6. I own 2 Curado D's which I use for flipping & jig fishing....they are on the heavy side. I like the sturdier feel to these reels for that application...just my preference. I also own 2 Revo STX's...nice & lightweight. Personally I would go with the STX over the D series Curado. Just picked up an E series Curado this year but have not used it yet. Reel is lightweight and feels great. Only time on the water will tell. Good luck in whatever you choose.
  7. No problem. I have the Mossyback in both the 853 & 854 (md heavy & heavy). Really like both rods. I use the 854 for heavier weeds and the 853 with with 12# fluoro for jigs and lighter flipping applications.
  8. Hey do you have a link for this rod? I'm looking for more of a Heavy instead of Medium Heavy. That sounds good. You can find it at www.gloomis.com Good luck in whatever you choose.
  9. I use a 7'1" G. Loomis Mossyback 854 (heavy power, fast action) paired with a Shiman Curado. I was using 15# P-Line CXXX-strong but I am switching to 65# power pro this year.
  10. 4" senko 1/0 Gamakatsu wide gap finesse 5" senko 3/0 Gamakatsu wide gap finesse
  11. I agree with the rear drags being more prone to sticking. Front drags seem to be much smoother.
  12. Thanks Dodgeguy. That seemed to have worked. Never seen that before. Learn something new every day. Thanks again.
  13. I tried to adjust the drag as well as the tension knob...no change.
  14. Picked up a new Curado E7 today at Bass Pro. I get the reel home and when you turn the handle the spool only sporadically engages. You can turn the handle many, many times withouth the spool turning. It smells like they really oiled/greased (not sure what they use) the reel at the factory. Anyone else have this issue? Obviously I plan on returning the reel but it's a 2 hour drive. I will have to mail it back.
  15. You would want a 6'6-7' mh fast action rod. I have 2 dedicated t-rigged rods 1 a 7' mh fast action, the other a 7'1" mh fast action. Both have 7:1 ratio reels on them so I can pick up line fast. I have 12# fluorcarbon on both. Also have a 7'1" heavy fast action that I use for flipping.
  16. I agree with what most are saying a 6'6" or 7' mh fast action rod. Having said that I have switched just about all my rods to 7'. I just like the longer length for leverage and taking up line quicker. I still have a 6'6" mh that I use for spinnerbaits and a few 6'6" spinning rods. I would personally go with the 7' mh in your brand of choice.
  17. I own several GL2 & GL3 rods as they were the first Loomis rods I purchased. They are not bad rods but like others said you may find better or comparable rods at a lower price. The IMX rods are awesome...I own 4 of them. I do own a St. Croix avid and love it. Also own 2 St. Croix Legend Bass and they are awesome rods as well. Having said that I would go with the Avid over the GL2. Can't speak for the Mojo. Good luck.
  18. Like most said, the CXX is very stiff. I use 15# for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits. Jerkbaits I throw mainly 8# fluoro on spinning rods or 10# on baitcasting rods.
  19. I have a few mh fast action rods. I throw jigs 3/8-1/2 oz, Tx rigged worms, senkos, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits. I would not recommend for treble hook baits such as a lipless crankbait that you mentioned. I would prefer a moderate or medium action rod for that.
  20. I have used 8# test on my spinning reels with no issue. Have also used the 12# on a few baitcasters again with no issues. I used P-Line 100% flouro in the past. I used the Trilene 100% as my supplier was out of the P-Line and I have not switched back. I have had no issues at all. I was a little shy about jumping back on the Trilene wagon after all the issues I had with Vanish.
  21. you mentioned burning spinnerbaits being popular but slow rolling them is popular as well and easier to do with a slower ratio reel. For plastics or jigs I like a higher ratio so I can pick up line quicker to set the hook.
  22. I can't speak on the 845 but I do own the 843. I throw DT10's on this rod without much problem. Also good for 3/8-1/2 oz rattle baits & I also throw topwater (poppers & spook jrs.) with this rod. One of my favorite.
  23. I've done very well on them this year pitching them to weed cover. 1/2 oz pegged tungsten weight with a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, 15# line, mh baitcaster.
  24. 6'6" mh G. Loomis 783 IMX 2500 series Daiwa Sol 8 lb. Trilene 100% fluorocarbon
  25. I prefer a mh rod for senkos. I use G. Loomis 783 IMX which is a 6'6" mh for 4" & 5" wacky rigged. When I go to a texas rig I throw it on a G. Loomis 843 IMX which is a 7' mh. I have thrown on a medium action before but I like the mh better....just my preference.
