  1. You would need 2 different rods for those presentations. Topwaters you want a medium fast action in a 6' to 6'8" rod. For the frogs you want at least a 7' mh rod.
  2. 12# Berkley 100% fluorocarbon or 15# P-line XXX-strong, going to spool up 1 rod with braid this year for the heavy cover.
  3. never really thought about it because my finder is flush mounted in the middle....I normally fish into the wind so I could fish off either side depending on which way the wind is blowing.
  4. 4" & 5" senkos with 1/0 gamakatsu finesse ewg hooks for the 4" & 3/0 for the 5". I fish both with the o-rings and without. 6'6" mh G. Loomis 783 IMX rod or 7' mh G. Loomis 843 IMX rod with 8# fluorocarbon line.
  5. I can't speak for the Daiwa as I am mainly a Shimano guy for my baitcasters (Daiwa for spinning) but I did purchase a Revo Premier last year and like it alot. I got it on E-bay for about $190.00. Very light and cast well.
  6. used 8# on a few spinning reels (4" finesse worms & senkos) and 12# on a few baitcasters (jigs, flukes, tx rigged worms). Was very impressed. Much better than Vanish..I will never buy that again. I was a P-Line fluoro guy but the Berkley 100% ranked right there with it for me....if not even a little better. Again this was based on 1 season with it. I plan to spool it up again on the same combos as last year.
  7. My choice is a Loomis shakey head rod 822 with a Daiwa Sol 2500 and 8# P-Line floroclear.
  8. Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the 5" money minnow and shallow cranks like the Manns C-4. I was throwing the C-4 on a Loomis 843 but it seemed a bit much for the medium action rod. Bigbass, I have the rod ordered through a local tackle shop...I didn't know the lefty winch's were on b/o. I'm use lefty reels as well. They are all over e-bay but I don't know if you can get the free Wiley X sunglasses if you purchase off E-bay.
  9. I am about to purchase this set up for medium to deep cranks. Just curious if anyone else has this set up and what else you may be throwing with it.
  10. The next level is G.Loomis IMX SJR843S I own this rod with a Daiwa Sol 2500, very sweet set up but I think these rods have gone up to around $260.00 now. I got mine for $245 or a few years ago. I just saw one at Cabela's marked @ $275
  11. Nothing wrong with buying a good combo. I got sick of buying the lesser rods & reels and replacing them every year or 2. You buy a good set up and you will have that a long time. That must be one ugly combo with the green reel & bright orange rod ;D I was jut making fun of my buddy who bought the Curado and put it on a St. Croix Legend bass (blue rod)...........I guess I just like to color coordinate.
  12. I throw mostly 4" & 5" wacky rigged senkos on a G. Loomis IMX 783 6"6" mh or 843 7' mh. I prefer a mh over a medium action. I would think with a 6" senko you would want a mh.
  13. G. Loomis & St. Croix both get my nod.
  14. really depends on time of year but here are my 5 versatile rods 7' medium action G. Loomis 843 cbr 10# test (topwater, shallow-med cranks) 7' medium heavy G. Loomis 843 IMX spinning 8# test (finesse worms, senkos) 6'6" medium heavy G. Loomis 783 IMX bc 15# test (spinnerbait, jigs, buzzbait, tx rigged worms) 7'1" Heavy G. Loomis Mossyback 854 15-17# test (jigs, tx rigged creature baits, toads) 6'6" medium 782 IMX spinning 8# test (tubes/grubs, senkos, flukes)
  15. 99% improved clinch knot, I have never had a knot fail...hope I didn't jinx myself & 1% palomar
  16. I bought a spool of 8# when it first came out. I don't know if I got a bad spool but it seemed to break very easily. It's tough to give something a try again when it fails so miserably on you the 1st time. I fish mostly P-line Flourocarbon, Floroclear & the C-XXX strong for jigs/spinnerbaits.
  17. I own this rod and like it. It's teamed up with a Daiwa Sol 2500 with 8# P-line Floroclear. It's good for lures up to about 1/4 oz. I wouldn't throw anything heavier. I mostly throw 3/16 oz shakey heads.
  18. I use a Loomis 843 crankbait rod for both popper & walking baits without any issue. This is a 7' medium/moderate action rod as well.
  19. I 2nd the 843 for a better all around rod. I have it in a IMX and throw jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, tx rig worms, even some cranks at times.
  20. Alabama, that looks like a pretty decent price on the 186. I paid about $28,000 6 years ago. I know boats are more expensive up north but I think what you are getting for under 25k is a good deal. Good luck if you decide to get it. I wish I waited and got the bigger boat up front. The 186 was my first boat then I wanted bigger & faster so that's how I wound up with the 20X. You may want to max out the 186 with a 175 though. Not sure if the hulls changed on the 186 but with a full tank & full wells it's not easy getting on plane with the 150. I wish I went with the 175 when I had mine.
  21. I had a TR-186 and upgraded to a one year old 20X for about $32,000. If you want a boat that handles rough water well, you better be looking at bigger than an 18 footer. My 186 was ok in rough water but nothing like the 20 footer. I have had both boats on Oneida Lake and the 20 was noticably better. If I were you I would save a little more money and look at a 1-2 year old 20' boat if you are going to fishing lakes with rougher water. Just my opinion. Good luck in whatever you choose.
  22. I was at my local Gander Mtn. today and they had a 7:1 STX lefty in stock also.
  23. From the Tackle Tour web-site. "The Curado E will feature an aluminum frame and graphite sideplates, except for the 300E which will have an aluminum handle side."
  24. I us a 6'6" mh G. Loomis 783 IMX with an older super free Curado & 15 lb. P-Line XXX-strong.
  25. Defintely has affected me. My club has a tournament in July in upstate NY and I probably will not be going. 1st tournament I will miss in the last 6 years. Just got back from CT and after $40 entry fee and $150 in gas, let's just say I will be fishing closer to home for the next few months...............Gas is around $3.69-$3.75 here in PA and it was $3.97 in CT over the weekend.
