  1. I have a heavy duty 10' flat bottom aluminum jon boat; loaded with gear and two people a total weight of about 500- 550 lbs. Right now I have a Motor Guide 30lb thrust transom mounted 12v motor. It does well on calm water but seems to slow in any wind or current. Would a 55lb motor cut through wind and current with no change in speed ? Is 55# to much, would a 40 ,46 lbs. work just as well for less money ? I'm told a 55 lb motor will NOT move the boat any faster than a 30 lb, just push it better in wind, is this true ? I don't want to go out and spend $200-$240 on a new motor and not really gain anything, what can I expect ? Any advice or opinions welcome. -Thank you, Mike :-? :-/
  2. So why do lure companies put a smaller sized hook on the rear ? There must be a reason. :-?
  3. Hello, anyone have much luck catching bass on Blakemore Road Runner jigs ? I used a 1/8 oz. chart. jig with 3" chart. twister tail for white bass last year and did well. Do they work for 10"-12" large and smallmouth bass as well ? Should I drop down to a 2" tail ? -Thanks
  4. Is color or sound more important when fishing stained water ? All my rattle traps are black back/chrome body and I fish rivers and resovoirs that are almost always stained to muddy. Do the bass still need to see a bright firetiger color, or does the sound enable them to find the lure ? Should I use firetiger color on all my lures or will shad colors with rattles works as well ? -Thank you :-?
  5. Hello, Newbie here with some questions : I have a Zebco Omega Z03 spincast reel with 8# Trilene XL on a 6' med. action rod. With a 1/8 ounce jig I can cast 60-65 ft., with a 1/4 jig I can get around 70-75 ft. Is this good, bad, or average for this set up ? I filled spool to 1/8" of spool lip as the directions stated, should I put on more line ? As a comparison my 4' 8" UL spinning rod/reel with 4# line throws a 1/8 jig around 65-70 ft. Any advice, opinions, or commets welcome Thank you :-?
  6. Any opinions on the Berkley Flicker shad diving minnows ? They come in 2 1/4" and 3", both with rattles, and dive around 8'-12'. I'm kinda new to bass fishing with lures, what's a good color pattern for stained to muddy water ? Sunny or cloudy ? Right now I have a 2 1/4" black and chrome colored one. The bass in my area average 10"-14" ; will the 2 1/4" be the better length for that size fish ? I'm a real newbie so any advice on color and size would be great. -Thanks !!!!! :-?
