Ugly stick casting? cabelas tourny trail? Help
All my rods are Ugly Stik and Ugly Stik Lite. The toughest rod made and a great deal. I've seen more than once someone break the tip off a $100 rod setting the hook to hard or trying to pull out a snag.

So whats the hype with the color"Sexy Shad?"
I would think most hits on a lipless bait would be a reaction strike, and color would be the last thing the fish would be looking at. I had a cheap rattle shad in black/chrome that was bet to death and looked like it was drug behind a truck , And I still caught alot of fish with it all summer, till I lost it in a snag. It's like saying a red corvette is faster than a brown corvette. Just my opinion.

Crawdad meat vs. whole live crawdad ?
I have a creek by the house with all the 'dads I could ever want. When I rig them whole and alive they tend to cralw under rocks and hang me up. I know fresh stripped tail meat is like candy to about every fish that swims; but does it make a difference to bass ? Would a live 'dad attract more strikes than a chuck on meat ? -Thanks

Spooling line on Daiwa spinning reel ?
Most spinning reels, I have someone hold the spool of line faceing me and make sure the line is comeing off the same directions it's going on. With Shimano's the say to hold line spool with a pencil and reel with the line spinning off the bottom of the spool like a baitcaster. I got my Daiwa Exceller with no instruction and thought I had read that with the "Twist Buster" roller you spooled it like the Shimano. Does anyone know ? -Thanks

Lets talk lipless
I throw a Bass pro TS rattle shad about 80% or more , fishing it all year. It will catch everything that swims; SM bass, LG bass, white bass, drum, walleye, sauger, crappie, catfish and even a few 'gills. There only $3 so i can afford to lose a few in the rocks and snags.

Show your best Smallies from last year!!!!
This was a 4 pounder I caught in the river a few blocks fron home. Them river fish seem to pull harder than any lake fish of the same size. May not be much but that a big smallie in my parts.

Best time of day for prespawn bass ?
When the water temp is in the mid 40's to low 50's, does it pay to get out on the water early before or at dawn, or does the bite get better as the day goes on the things warm up a bit ? I seem to remember reading something about the fish become more active as the water warms in the afternoon. Any thoughts on this ? Refering to smallies, white bass, and Lg mouths in small rivers -Thanks

Did Berkley drop Al Linder ?
For as long as I can remember Al Linder has been a spokeaman for Berkly products, like gulp!, powerbait, and the Trilene fishing lines. Now I sees he's promoteing Suffix line and some Trigger X brand of plastic baits. Anyone know what happened ? Just curious. :-?

Shimano Sahara or Daiwa Exceler ?
Both of these spinning reels have aluminum frames, the Sahara 1500 holds the same amount of line as the Exceler 2000. Being the same size the Exceler is about 1 oz. lighter and has more ball bearings. Anyone use either or both ? If so how do they compare ? Which is the better reel ? I've got a few 750 Saharas and love them , but i've read some good things about the Exceler and it's $10 less. Any thoughts ? -Thanks

Need advice; braid or mono. ?
Okay, I've fished mono my whole life, but can't help to notice the trend toward briad and have a few questions. 1. I fish a river full of flat and round rocks. What is more abraison resistant, 8# mono. or #10 braid with a 2-4# diam. ? (I have been told mono holds up better on rocks) 2. The water is ussally a slight green tinted to tea color but can be somewhat clear at times. Will fish see the green tinted line ? 3. Besides casting distance and no stretch what are the pros ? What are the cons ? 4. What brand it generaly considered the "best" ? Any other info. or advice would be great -Thanks

Pflueger Medalist or Abu ALBi ?
Why is the supreme better suited for freshwater ? Are you saying Pflueger is better than Sahara ?

Pflueger Medalist or Abu ALBi ?
Looking for an aluminum body spinng reel at a low price (on a tight budget) and have come up with the Medalist ($90) and ALBi 501 ($70). The size I want for both holds 115 yds. of 6# line. Which is the better reel ? Looking for smooth, quite, and tough. Which one has the least "sloppyness" and "wobble"? How do they compare to the Shimano Sahara ? -Thanks

Line capacity on spinning reels ?
I use this set up mainly for white bass during the spring run and smallmouth and walleye wading the rivers. Around here a 4 lbs. Smallie is a "big one" most run 12-16 inches.

Line capacity on spinning reels ?
How important is line capacity when chooseing a spinning reel ? How much line is really needed ? I ask because I like the feel and balance of the smaller spinning reels like the Shimano 750 and 1000 sereis, but like to use #8 mono when these are made more for #4 mono. I can get about 80-85 yds. of Trilene XL on the spool and it cast well enough with 1/8 to 1/4 oz. lures. I can't see getting "spooled" even from the odd catfish or snaged carp. So is there any real reason to go with a bigger reel than just line cap. ? Is 80yds. of line more than enough ? Any thoughts on the subject ? -Thanks P.S. I know I can get more braid on the spool than mono, but I'd like to stick with mono for my own reseaons ? :

Treble hook advice for crankbaits ?
How sharp should your hooks be ? I always go with the fingernail test; if it catches the nail when drag across it's sharp enough, right ? I bought some Mustad trebles and had to more or less hit them all with a fine dimond hone to get that sticky sharpness. Now I know alot of people frown on this, but what's the lesser evil, hitting the tips with a hone or useing as is ? Being on a tight buget and loseing alot of lures and hooks to rocks and snags I can't always afford Gamakatsu and Owners like some. I don't notice any difference in hook ups .Any advice or input ?

Treble hooks as trailers on buzz baits ?
Has anyone tried useing a #4 red treble hook a trailer on a small buzz bait. It fits right on the main hook of a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. buzz bait. Will it increase hook ups more than without ? Same as regular trailer ? -Thanks

What happened to Berkley Frenzy Flicker shads ?
I bought a bunch of these Flicker shad diving crankbaits a few years back from Bass Pro, both 2" and 3" for like $2 each. They had sharp triple grip hooks and great action. Fields and Stream ranked them as better for trolling Walleye than Rapala. So why aren't they made anymore ? They were a great bargin and worked well, so what happened ? :'(

Feathered hooks on poppers ?
Most top water poppers have a "dressed" feathered treble hook on the rear. After so many fish they get pulled out and beat up and I replace the feathers. My question is does it make a difference to the bass ? Has anyone notice less his without feathers ? Do the add the extra atractant thats needed for top water fishing ? Is it worth the time to replace them ? -Thanks

One red hook or two ?
On most of my rattle traps and crakbaits I put a red hook on the front and nickle on the rear. If I put a red on the rear also, will it make any difference at all as far as the number of hits or where the fish hits ? -Thanks

Up sizing hooks on crankbaits ?
Hello, I use an 1/8 oz. 2 inch Rattlle Shad lipless crankbait alot for Smallies, Walleyes and White Bass in the 12"-16" range. The front hook is #8 and the rear is #10. I'm going to up grade with Gamakatsu and was thinking a #8 on the rear would help increse my catch ratio over the smaller #10. Will going up one size change the action of this lure ? Any negatives of going with a bigger hook ? They won't tangle either. I'd say 95% of the time the front hook is the one that gets them, raerly does the rear be the only hook in. any advice ? -Thanks

Rattle Shad hook size ?
I have some Uncle Buck's Rattle Shad 1/8oz. 2". The front hook is a #8 the rear is a #10, I replaced the rear with a #8 . Any reason the rear would be smaller ? The action seems the same, one size up shuldn't change anything should it ? Shouldn't they be the same size anyways ? I would think a bigger hook would work better than a small one. I use this lure mainly on white bass, but do get large and smallmouth too. -Thanks

Bottomline 1101 portable fishfinder ?
Any opinions on this unit ? I like the clamp on clamp off portabilty of the unit for my 10' jon, but the 9* cone concerns me. If i'm in 10'-15' of water I'll only see 2'-2.5' of the bottom. Any comments good or bad ? :-/

Trolling motor: 30 lb. vs. 55 lb. ?
How long would a charge last on a battery with a 55# motor compared to a 30# motor ? Right now I have a Ever Start Marine deep cycle trolling (24DC-6). Usally I run about 2-3 hrs. total when I'm out and have never ran out of juice.

Trolling motor: 30 lb. vs. 55 lb. ?
Who gave you that kind of info.? The 55 will go a lot faster than the 30. My premise on tmotors is get the biggest one you can afford and use the highest reserve amp deep cycle battery(s) that you can find. Min Kota, they replied to my email, I asked how much faster a 55# motor would be than a 30#, they told me trolling motors all go to the same top end speed and more thrust pounds only means it will move heavy boats at that top speed or keep you at top speed in rough waters. I didn't know if it was true or not :-/ :-/ :-/ I'm guessing from what I've read here and eleswhere it's not ? -Thanks

Trolling motor: 30 lb. vs. 55 lb. ?
I'm not putting 500 lbs in the boat, thats total weight boat ,two people, and gear. Here's the weight break down, the boat itself (10')weighs about- 100 lbs.(boat, plastic seats, transom) battery- 30 lbs., gear -( rods, net, paddle, etc.) 5 lbs. anchors- (2x 10lbs) 20lbs. Me -170 lbs. my daughter -90 lbs. Trolling motor- 10 lbs. Total weight includeing boat= 425 lbs. (if my dad is with me instead of my daughter, then 525 lbs) I know with my dad in I'm pushing the limit, but the boat is still very stable and the top of the gunwhale (sp?) is still about 10" to the water. It's a heavy duty jon (likely a duck boat) with rivited support beams and a rolled edge along the gunwhales. The two bench seats are fully enclosed, rivited to the floor and filled with solid stryofoam for added bouyanc.y You can't bend/ flex it or push in on the sides, thick alumunim. If I thought for a minute it was not safe, or at risk I would never take it out. I've been hit with some big wakes and never came close to tipping. -Thanks
