I dont think it is an issue with bearings, as i clean my reel every month. Its more like the gears are still partially engaged when i make a cast.

My abu garcia revo sx has been making a really loud grinding gear noise when i cast, it hasnt been on every cast but maybe 1 out of 10 times it will do it. It happens infrequently enough that i really have no idea what triggers it and I actually came home early from fishing this morning because it was getting so bad. When males are guarding eggs, they arent looking to feed. When they pick up the end of your bait and just move it off the bed you can try dipping the head of the bait in jj’s magic or some other kind of garlic dye. Ive found that will increase my hook up ratios alot.

Lipless cranks always come after jerkbaits IMO.

I fish a pond that has about a 4 foot layer of slime on the bottom and i have found that a light texas rig with the sinker pegged on a bobber stop wont pick it up. If you are having trouble with your lure burying into it like i do sometimes, you should try to rig your soft plastics on a belly weighted EWG hook because that presentation will sit flat on The top of the slime instead of diving in head first.
