  1. What do you - brand/lbs - use for casting?
  2. I've been thinking about getting a Pelican Bass Raider then I realized that there was a model called Twin Troller which is very similar in size but offers a lot more. I'm still doing my own due diligence, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it? Many thanks in advance.
  3. For what applications do you use Stren?
  4. More votes for Sufix! What lb test do you use or suggest for top water/cranking/Texas rigging?
  5. What lb test line do you have on?
  6. I guess I'm still ol'school as I'm not too keen on trying something new/different. One of these days I'll try braided line, and hope it doesn't snap my rods in half, and ruin my reels at the same time. If I were to try one, what brand would you recommend?
  7. Well, been there and done that, and apparently your mouth is cleaner than mine. LOL
  8. Caught it this afternoon - 90 plus degrees - on a modified buzz bait w/Kaitech 4.8 inch fat swinger.
  9. I don't hear much about those baits anymore. For topwater action, people are now throwing either some frog variations or soft baits but no buzz baits as far as I can tell. Do folks still throw them or are they just a thing of the past?
  10. When I was fishing with a local guide named Ken Penrod awhile back, he told me - hope I'm quoting him correctly - he'd typically throw a spinnerbait to an area that has some structure to make it more effective. Where do you throw your spinnerbaits?
  11. Before I did the lube job, it was doing fine w/no backlash albeit with a less distance. After cleaning my reel, I can now cast a country mile but with a said issue I haven't fished for quite sometime due to my hectic work schedule, but I'm fishing more now due to the current pandemic crisis. In 10 years, I probably used the reel maybe less than 30 times so it's still practically new. I'm getting better at it now, and thanks to folks like you experts I'm enjoying fishing again! Many thanks to you, and other great folks here at the forum!
  12. I've heard some people saying that they are throwing chatterbaits now in lieu of spinnerbaits even in windy conditions where spinnerbait is known to be the go-to bait. Does that apply to you also? I'm not very confident about using a spinnerbait like others do as I rarely caught many bass with it, but with a chatterbait, I've landed some nice ones. What say you?
  13. What so special or different about Daiwa? I know they make good fishing gear, but I've no experience with them, unfortunately.
  14. I'm using a 6'8" Medium All-Star rod w/ol'Shimano Calcutta which I've just cleaned/lubed, and I can cast a lot further now which made me "happy". I typically use a spinner gear, but prefer using a baitcaster - which I've used for about, say, 10 years on and off - for cranking.
  15. Should I avoid using a baitcaster when casting against the wind, and stick with spinning instead? I've had at least 10 nests yesterday, and even had my line snapped off from having and repairing too many of those. What do you experts suggest?
  16. I can be clumsy sometimes, and just to be safe in my future outings, I've been thinking about investing in one - or few - of those. Do you use one for yourself, and if you do what would you recommend? Do they even work as supposed to?
  17. I found a Harbor Freight shop in my neck of the woods! I'll be heading there tomorrow to check it out - many thanks! I truly doubt that since I'm a wimp. Appreciate your suggestion, and that's - very likely - my plan anyway.
  18. It was WP 90, and I was using an old 6'6" All-Star - either medium or MH - rod.
  19. That's fishing I suppose. So, do you just leave those hooks alone or do you change them for - at least - greater peace of mind?
  20. What brand and size do you recommend please?
  21. I missed two decent size bass - say, about 3 lb. 5 oz each (down to the oz, LOL!) - yesterday on a Whopper Plopper lure. The stock hooks that came with the bait looked very convincing, and sharp enough when I felt them with my finger - well, so I thought. Anyway, I had a decent hook set too, but I still missed them both. I'm not one of those guys who goes crazy on modding anything especially lures, but I may have to be flexible to the idea. Thank you in advance for your valuable input!
  22. That's an option - thank you. Btw, I think they are out of business, though.
  23. After looking at a few options, I think Pelican will be perfect for some of the local lakes here in MD. A friend suggested a canoe, but that's not for me. Anyway, I have a Hyundai Sonata, and I am wondering if there is a suitable rack to drive the boat from point A to point B. I once had a Volvo SUV, but my kid wreck it so that's that, and I'm not going to buy a truck just to carry the boat around. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Best, Ed
  24. Roger, which lures would you suggest?
  25. Do you avoid windy area, and look for a calm water/cove or do you enjoy fishing in that situation? I'm told a spinner bait is best on windy days, but I never caught a single fish with a spinner bait on a windy day. Crank bait yes, but spinner bait no. Perhaps I wasn't using it correctly who knows. And when you do fish in windy areas what do you typically throw? I'm guessing any topwater lures are out, but what about Texas rigged worms, senkos, Ika etc? How do you watch the line when it's constantly bowed? Many thanks in advance.
