How to target smallmouth
Lots if people mentioning the relevance to structure here. I personally try to target them off shore. They will hang around in water much deeper than largemouth. I have see. Them pulled out of 45ft of water in the colder months (I live up north) and even in the spring time I find them in around 8-18ft while all the largemouth are up in the shallows.

What, to you, is a “nice” bass?
I think it all depends on your fishery, but for me anything in the 2-3 range I consider nice when they get into the 4-5 and above I go full Iaconelli.

Are bass cannibals?
I dunno if y’all saw the video of the 5 pounder turning into a 6 pounder in the aquarium at Bass Pro Shop. But I saw the video, can confirm they will eat other bass for sure.

Jon Boat Decking Questions
I have a “decked out” 1236 and we fish 2 from it all the time. It gets a little sketchy at times on some of the bigger lakes but it’s awesome to hit all the no combustion ponds in. And I’ve never let the size stop me from fishing most of the big lakes near me. There are a few that I just don’t have the balls to do. If two fat ass men can cast out of a 1236 you should be fine in a 14ft. Have fun with the project I’m sure it will be worth the investment.

Been a longtime lurker. I seriously started fishing bass for about 4 years now, and I thought how selfish to just lurk, I wanna help the someone new really enjoy and learn the sport, while learning more myself as I am far from a pro. I predominately fish for the bucketmouths but I can’t say I don’t love the Smallmouth bite, as long as I got a bass pulling on the other end of that line I’m having a good day.- Best soft plastics as of 2020!!
I have never been a huge fan of YUM Z-man has grown on me over the last year but my tried and trues are Rage Tail- for bugs and craws Yamamoto- for stick baits Roboworm- fat straight tail for dropshots And their ned bait Keitech- for swimmers, paddle/boot tails I just ordered some Strike King dream shots to try out on dropshots, a guest on my boat caught his PB smallmouth the other day on one.- Yum Christie craws
New to Bass Resource but not new to Bass fishing. My close friend loves the Christie craws and I have seen him land a few nice fish on em. I have seen him rig em on swimming jigs but I think he trims the legs. I have never gotten bit on the bait personally but I haven’t given Yum products a real honest shot. I mostly throw rage tails and keitechs (Just because it’s worked for me). - New here from Monroe, WA
