  1. No doubt. I guess I should clarify that isn't a detractor really. I'm just thinking now that maybe the 7'1" may be better suited for throwing and pitching jigs and some frogs into somewhat grassy areas (which is what I'm looking for). I think this 6'10 rod would be about a PERFECT weightless Senko rod though.
  2. Thought I'd update this... I just received the 6'10" MH/F. What a beautiful rod. It seems like a very versatile rod, but the tip is definitely thin. I'd say even a 1/2oz jig would load it up a LOT. I think the 7'1" MH/XF might be more what I'm looking for. I've hear it's very similar to this 6'10", just with a little beefier tip.
  3. This rod interests me. You don’t see a ton of MH Extra Fast rods from other manufactures, and if you do, many times they are several inches longer. Does anyone use this rod a lot? What lures does it pair well with? Weightless Senkos? T rigs? Jigs? Frogs? In my head it seems like it would make a great pitching rod.
  4. They should just get rid of the silly line weight dial on the back. Other than that, nice rods.
  5. Got to throw the reel a little this morning. Everything is nice and smooth, silent on the cast, little bit of noise reeling. The breaking system is going to take a little getting used to. Was tossing a frog with a little wind, and couldn’t really find the sweet spot. I could get it tuned (about 6-8 on the dial) for leisurely side arming or roll casting.... but if I tried to really get into it over head, it seemed like the spool wanted to blow up (And kind of did one time). If I set it so that I could get aggressive with it overhead without tons of thumb work, it felt really choked down if I just tossed it sidearm. I backed off on the “zero adjust” a hair, and that may have evened things out some. Just going to have to play with it. ETA: Don’t ask me why, but I went back out with the reel, and after about 20 more casts, everything seemed to settle in almost. Spool isn’t trying to blow up anymore, and I’m getting average/above average distance pretty easily. I didn’t really make any adjustments? I almost wonder if the inductor was stuck, or something broke in? Who knows. I have the spool tension set so that I can just barely feel a “click” when I wiggle it side to side, and the magnetic is set to 8. Throwing a frog that comes in about 1/2 oz.
  6. I’ve got to do a little studying on the differences in Daiwas spool/inductor designs. It seems that the size of the inductor, the strength of the inductor return spring, as well as the magnets in the side plate vary depending on model? So a magforce Z “tuned for distance” could be something as simple as a slightly smaller inductor? “SV” just refers to the spool itself, (7075) no? The SV spool still uses the centrifugal inductor “magforce” it seems.
  7. DAiwa is hard to keep up with it seems. That’s a sweet reel, but I’m kind of looking forward to using the controlled SV.
  8. ? But not $175 shipped, lol. So that spool is more “free” than the coastal?
  9. This coastal is so nice, I might just sell my CT and grab another. Unless of course there is something the CT can do that the costal can’t? ?
  10. Yep. We’ll see. One thing is kind of strange... the spool does not free spin half as long as my Tat CT. Even with all adjustments backed off, if I finger flip the spool on both, the Coastal spins maybe 1/3 or less the amount of time. Odd.
  11. I HATE THEM! HATE THEM I TELL YOU! Just kidding. At first glance they are OK. They are larger than photos make them look, but I much prefer the big Abu Revo knobs.
  12. Just got the coastal in... Holy smokes, what reel.
  13. I just picked up the 6’10” MH/F Tatula and am considering picking up the 7’ M/R. Not sure you can beat them for the $. the full cork grips are nice for a change.
  14. Not that it’s really worth it, but I kinda wondered if any of the lower capacity SV spools would drop in. I guess the answer is not without spacers?
  15. True of the Tat 150. But the coastal 150 is a 100 sized reel with a 150 spool.
  16. Thanks. I have a M/F Carbonlite in the lineup already, so I don’t want something to close to that.
  17. The fact that you can get the coastal for $175 from Sportsman’s ain’t bad either.
  18. I want to add a rod to my new lineup for shallow and medium (mainly 5’ or less) crankbaits. It’s something I throw a good bit, but don’t have a specific rod for. Im eyeing the Tatula 7’ M/R or the 7’ M/R Glass. It’s my understating that’s Daiwas “R” lines up with other “moderates”. I don’t have any experience with glass, but it seems like it’s favored by many for this application. Anyone with experience on these two rods?
  19. I ordered one yesterday. It’s is, for all intents and purposes, a Tatula SV TW 103, but with... a deeper (150 sized) spool, aluminum side plate, 100mm handle, a couple of corrosion resistant bearings, and sexy blue finish. So on paper, it’s a pretty neat, versatile reel. And yes, I’ll be using it for largemouth 98% of the time.
  20. I'll say this... there is very little difference in the backbone of the Carbonlite 2.0 M vs MH. It's there, but it's very subtle. The MH is just a little tip heavy with the Revo on it I'd say, but overall they have a great feel to them.
  21. I gotta say, these Winn grips are NICE. One of the reels is scuffed up a good bit because BPs packaging was terrible, but I guess it’ll get scuffed up anyway. looking forward to putting some time behind these.
  22. 7.1 theres def no “right” answer. Just want to be versatile. I feel like a M/MF might be a good addition, as I throw a fair amount of shallow cranks (particularly Mann’s Baby 1).
  23. Oh me and the monkey are old friends. We talk, I feed him, he shuts up for while, then he gets hungry again. Ha, but full disclosure, one of my other (competitive) hobbies that I take pretty seriously usually takes up all my fishing time. It’s been pretty much shut down due to the craziness (virus), so the gear monkey from that hobby (let’s call him Carl) is bored and his attention somehow got focused on fishing. ? But I’m ok with it. It has re kindled my love for setting hooks (and buying shiny new fishing gear).
  24. This is kind of where my head was at. The 7’ M/“R” Tatula maybe?
