  1. Is it just me or is Sandra Bullock getting better with age?
  2. Q - Did you hear about the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac? A - He used to lie awake at night wondering if there was a Dog.
  3. I just have one color christmas light. It's white. It's a porch light. Bah humbug! p.s. I loved the house with the word "Ditto" in the previous post.
  4. Gang, It's nearing the season where visions of ice fishing begin to dance in my head. I already have a color fishfinder and was hoping to convert it to a portable unit for ice fishing. There are a few things which prompt me to ask this question rather than just going out and buying another unit: First, I'm cheap. I don't want to go out and buy another unit if I don't have to. Second, I'm cynical (or can be). The makers of ice fishing units will have you believe that you need one that's optimized for fishing in below freezing temperatures (rugged) and faster (such as a flasher) or both. Is this bonafide or just hooey designed to reallocate money from my pocket to theirs?
  5. Nice fish but...er...what's a "chrome?" Is it a rainbow trout?
  6. Smallieking-how did you finish up the season? Any wins or places?
  7. Gang, I have a "regular" trolling motor which does a fine job except I typically run out of juice before I run out of daylight. I'd rather not lug around an extra battery so was thinking of adding a maximizer to increase my trolling motors efficiency. Is this even feasible? Do they make an aftermarket "maximizer" or are they strictly an integral part of a trolling motor? Would it be prohibitively expensive?
  8. Lag bolts/screws will work but they will be the first thing to rot out after the trailers been dunked in water numerous times. Just countersink some bolts and cover em with indoor/outdoor carpet.
  9. I never embelish how I did-if for no other reason than because I don't want people crowdin' me on my spots. But I guess other folks do?
  10. Darn good catch! I should do so well! So...Is Bryan hooked?
  11. Thanks, bwell, for inviting me along. It was a great time and the weather was perfect! I was astounded that all of us caught a muskie. How often does that happen?!!! If I hadn't seen it myself, I might not have believed it! The smallest fish was around 38 inches with the biggest being 45 (Matt's other buddy caught the biggest one). I won't say what we caught them on but here's a hint: It was a bait which some members of this forum have spoken of with contempt. Seriously!
  12. For some of you, this may not happen very often but for the rest of us stiffs, it does: After you've had a rough day on the water (i.e, not caught much) when you get back to the dock/boat ramp, do you want to know how the other fishermen faired? Maybe I have weak ego strength but I'd rather not know. There's nothing I hate worse than hearing "Yeah, tore 'em up" or "Not too good-only 20 or 30." Only when no one else has any good do I want to know how they did. Okay, if I can learn some new methods/techniques or locations, I'm willing to listen but otherwise, no, I'd rather pass.
  13. I tend to look at things from a "Is it helping the sport or hurting it?" perspective. I've seen an awful lot of fish get hooked deep in their throats with live bait so I don't like to use it unless I plan to keep some fish. I realize there are circle hooks which, if used properly, minimize this risk but there are, evidently, a lot of "regular" hooks being sold so obviously not everyone is using them. So, while it's not "cheating", IMHO it can harm the fishery and one reason why I don't use live bait. Also, it's just not as much fun for me.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude b Yes, that's it! Thank you. Poor kitty!
  15. Do you position one on the bow of the boat or to the side?
  16. There is a German word (or expression) for taking pleasure in someone else's pain or discomfort. I'm not sure what it is but I just experienced it.
  17. Gang, This may be pushing the envelope a bit but have any of ya'll (for you southern folk) or you guys (yankees) ever used a drift sock for slower, methodical fishing near cover. I've never used a drift sock but I know they are popular with walleye fishermen in open water. But how about near shore?. Was just wondering if they could be used in conjuction with a trolling motor to make controlled fishing a little more manageable on windy days when an anchor won't hold.
  18. Here's how you solve this: Check to see if your coworker's husband's pants are on fire. I fish a pond which has a large number of 2 lb bass, a few 3 lbers, and the very occassional 4 lb or higher bass. One day a young man near me pulls out a bass probably no bigger than a lb and a half and announces it's 3 lbs. Is he lying? Probably not. Just not experienced enough to know the difference. (Ambition and inexperience can add several lbs to a fish). But an experienced fisherman should know better. I'm guessing he's perfected the art of stretching the truth.
  19. No, but don't you just hang lures off your tree? (Not adviseable if you have a cat).
  20. This question is a bit too broad to elicit many responses. I suspect most people would suggest, since the pond is clear, you simply try different natural looking baits until you figure out what they want.
  21. I just wanted to publicly thank Fish-fighting-Illini for introducing me to a new body of water to fish (Sorry folks, I'm not so generous with sharing this spot as he was). Anyway, he and I met up and went out this past Friday. The wind was blowing to beat the band and spittin' rain so it was tough to hold in one spot but we found numbers of bass (over 30) in cattails in around 5 feet of water. They didn't hit very hard but their strong fight made up for their weak bite. I think they thought they were smallmouth. I can't wait to go out again. Thanks Matt!
  22. Braided line: never. I just add more when the spool runs low. Mono: maybe twice a year. But I don't use it much anymore.
  23. Ordinarily, I'd agree with you but with the rain and chilly temperatures coming so early, it has totally ruined my plans. If it keeps this up, it's going to be a really long winter.
  24. You got rid of your old lady?!!! Well, hunting season is on so I guess anything goes. Did you drop her with one shot? ;D
