How often do you respool?

Recommended Posts

Couple of things here. ( I searched this topic with no results if it is a repeat please send me in the right direction)

Here we go.

How often do you respool your reels with line?

When you do respool do you fill the spool to capacity or a little/lot less?

Thanks for your input

Since I'm not a tournament fisherman I only respool when I  can't fish effectively due to not enough line on my reel.

I always refill to within an 1/8 " of the lip.

As often as every other outing to every 3 outings, and always full spools.

I don't have fixed times, but when the spool runs low enough to affect optimum casting and retrieval. Could be one day (mega bird's next or a few weeks or a year (braid).

x2. Unless i've been fishing some really gnarly cover--then I'll usually respool.

i respool too often imo.

i fish with mono only. whenever i see the slightest nick in the line , i cut about 2-3 feet above it. or when i get a serious snag and my line noticably stretches , ill cut all that off. maybe every 5-10 outings ill respool. sometimes more or less but thats usually about it.

Since I fish everyday, I respool every 7-14 days depending on how much I use a particular combo or if Ive had a breakoff and lost a long portion of line. My crankin, buzz and spinnerbait combos are almost always respooled weekly due to fishing in a lot of shallow cover and needing to re tie often.

Anyone know of a good source for large spools of P-Line CX Prem 12 & 14 # moss green.

I usually respool about once a month. I never remove all the line, I usually pull off about 75-100 yards, tie onto my older line and fill from there. On my flipping outfit, I will pull much less off. You can get 2-3 refills on a spool of line.

For my braid, this will last me all season long. Since I use it for special applications (jigging in dirty water and froggin) I do not put as many miles on this stuff.

Rarely.

I only add line as needed to maintain a full spool. That generally

means replacing 80-100 yards of fresh line every now and then.

The only exceptions are reels with low capacity: Core, CH50MG

and Stella 1000.

Only as often as needed after the line has run low on the spool and since most of my reel usage is with spinning reels I never have them completely fill the spool.

I use braid on just about everything, my freshwater reels seldom need respooling. The line on my saltwater reels take much more of a beating, I generally add about 75 -100yds when needed.  Today I did a total respool, probably the first in over a year and that was due only to the type of fish running now and the conditions.

That's me right there ^ .

I fill to over capacity (a bad habit, but I like to really have the spool even after I cast out my lure)

If it gets a lot of use I respool daily. Keep backing on all reels so it's not as much line as one might think.

The spools stay full. A 7:1.1 reel is not that when fishing half a spool.

Mono or Braid: I replace as needed if the spool gets low. At the end of my fishing season I take all the line off all my reels and then re-spool them all again just before season starts.  With braid, I put a mono backing on the spool. Allows me to fill more than one reel with braid.
