My theory behind flipping reels is that less is more. I'd say go even smaller if you can afford it. When you spend 4 hours a day flipping a 7'6" rod 1,000+ times, it counts. I've been using revos and pflueger summits lately and couldn't be happier.
I've been using the Loomis frog rod for about a month now... I must say at first my impressions were not good, felt a bit on the heavy side and large in the reel seat.
After I've caught a few good fish on it I absolutely love it... Has a LOT of backbone, rips them right out.
Long story short- Bought used boat- owner told me 50:1 mix, I use 50:1 mix, download manual for motor and it says 100:1 mix.
Motor only smokes a little at first start... Doesn't seem too rich... Should I switch to 100:1, or should I just keep it like it is?
Does anyone have a link for maintenance on small outboards?
I just recently purchased a 15' G3 with a 15hp yamaha, boat and motor is in great shape, just want to make sure that I take great care of it as I want to keep it in good shape, and is my first powerboat.
It is a 2 stroke motor.
I'm using the Zoom Horny Toad hooks as well, with great success.
I haven't used the Mann's Hardnose toad yet, looks like there might not be the best action with that one. I'm partial to either the Zoom Horny Toad or Gambler's Cane toad.
As stated above, the Curado is just too big a reel, I went with the Revo for it's size. Another well priced high speed out there is the new Pflueger Summit. Worth looking at as well, I have one on my toad rod.
I read something recently that really made me think... The passage was something to the effect of "you can feel the fish, but the fish can feel you just as easily."
It makes me wonder if there's a correlation between the little taps I feel before I miss those hooksets from time to time.
Thoughts?
I had the same question as you, switched some techniques back to mono/flouro- made a huge difference. Have to admit it was very hard making the switch back.
