Susquehanna River 8/23/2008
I had a father and son charter yesterday, Vic Sr. and Vic Jr. from NJ. they came up Friday to stay in the guest house fish the Private lake and spend a full day on the Susky. It was a Birthday Present from Dad and they had a great time. Water Temp 74 muddy, air temp 75-80 mix of sun and clouds made for a comfortable day of fishing. Jig, Spinner baits and Tubes did the trick. I didn't really count but I'd say between 50-60 fish with lots of 13-14s and some trophy's to boot. The fish were scattered some shallow some deep. Vic Jr caught a couple of nice Largemouth on the lake the night before on a Pop R, all in all a successful outing for the Birthday Boy. Happy Birthday Vic Jr, here's your presents......

Re: Susquehanna River 8/9/2008
I fished with Craig, Paul, And Cristian from Allentown today. Craig had to go to work in the morning so we didn't get started till about 1pm. Paul's getting married next month and his buddies were treating him to a fishing trip for the start of his bachelor party weekend. It rained for the first 20 minuets and then cleared into a really nice day with sun and a cool breeze. Water temp was 75, stained and the fish were all over, some shallow some in deeper water. We caught 70+ fish with some good quality smallies but nothing huge. At one point I told Craig to throw at a fish I saw swirl and it hit as soon as his bait hit the water. When he set the hook his line broke at the spool, it must have caught the line keeper on the spool. As he stood there with that look you get when something like that happens, Paul threw into the same spot, Bang another bite, he gets the fish in and it had Craig's bait with about 20 feet of line attached to it, and his bait jammed in his mouth. Talk about an aggressive fish. All in all it was a great way to start a last chance weekend before getting married, Nice day, lots of fish, Good company. Here's a pic of the fish with the two baits in his mouth, it's kinda hard to see but they are both holding their line. Way to save me a jig guys. lol

Susquehanna River
Hey everyone, its been awhile since I've posted any reports so I'll combine them into one. The fishing has been great with good numbers and some nice trophy's. I've had a couple of father and son outings both young and old which is always nice and also a young lady who came from Connecticut to fish by herself. We're catching them on my jig, spinnerbaits and topwater for the most part but you can also get them on a crank or jerk bait as well. Seeing allot of Bald Eagles and Herons and the river is as beautiful as ever. Now would be the time to get your deposit in for the fall cause its gonna be good. I still have dates available and would love to meet some more of you before the season ends. Hope you enjoy the pics............. Here's a nice double And I almost forgot, check out the 9+ that came out of the private lake.

Most of the fish came on the jig and tubes with a few on spinnerbaits, no top water this morning which is always a bummer. water temp 82 depth 2-4, air temp 84 and muggy no wind, water stained. Here's some nice ones.......

Stick Bait Bite Detection - Deep Hooking
A deep hooked bass is usually due to missing the strike when it happens due to slack line and or inefficient line watching, and also letting the fish swim with the bait to long. If the fish are really gobbling it up as you say, the bite must be aggressive, meaning sooner than you think. I'm not trying to demean your ability's so please don't take it that way. I would try to keep better contact with your bait, find the spot which you can feel the weight but not so much as to change the action of what your doing. If you feel the weight that will let you know you have all of the slack out of your line to the weight, you will have to experiment to know the point at which you bait is still falling behind the weight. as far as wide gap hooks I only use them when the bait has so much rubber that I need a place for it to go. I much prefer the penetration property's of a strait shank worm hook. I fish allot of stick baits and a 2/0 Gamakatsu worm hook is all I use up to a 5" bait, never have hook up problems. I hope this helps and way to go trying to save your fish, it works more than not.

Today was Mike Bs last half day with me and we finished in style, 99 fish. We left the fish bitting and agreed not to catch the 100th fish. It was a great finish to a great three days. We caught them on top in the morning and the jig finished the day in style. Thanks Mike, for coming to see me and I'll see you in the fall.

North Branch Susquehanna River, Mike B continued 7/16/2008
Mike B and I were back at it again today, I suggested we fish one evening to mix it up since he booked three days, he agreed. He jumped in the row boat this morning and caught ten greenies on the lake then he came up to the house for a some baitcast lessons, I have to say he did pretty well. Two o'clock rolled around and off we went to the river. It was a little hot when we first started but it cooled off nicely. We had a thunderstorm roll in on us so we only got to fish the minimum, I'll make up for it tomorrow Mike. We had 50+ tonight on the jig, spinnerbaits and topwater with some grin makers added to the mix. The addiction progresses. LOL:)

Re: North Branch Susquehanna River 7/15/2008
Went fishing with Mike B from NJ today on the Susky, the first of three days for him. We fished a half day caught 42 fish all smallies. It was Mike's first time fishing the river as well as fishing for smallies and he did great. Started the morning off with a Sammy and eventually switched to the jig. His first Smallmouth Ever was a 17.5 on the Sammy, not a bad way to start the Smallmouth addiction that will probably plague him for the rest of his life LOL We took a break and had some dinner then it was on to the private lake for an hour for some greenies. Mike B 8, Mike L 2. I guess I had it coming after that monster last night. here's some pics.....

North Branch Susquehanna River 7/11/2008
I had a half day charter with Ken and his Dad Dutch today. Another nice day with good people. The river is getting shallower by the day and making navigation tricky. We caught 40+ with a few nice ones in the mix. Water temp 77, stained 2-4 feet on the jig with topwater in the morning, here's the pics.

North Branch Susquehanna River 7/9/2008
I went fishing with Dan and Colleen today. Dans in the navy and home on leave for a couple of weeks so his wife surprised him with a trip to the Susky and a night in my guest house, what a great wife. It was a overcast day with couple of showers. We caught well over 80 fish all smallies with quite a few nice ones. She originally booked a half day but they were having such a great time they decided to make it a full day. A funny thing happened, we had a woodchuck swim from the shore right to the boat, and then turn around and swim back, never seen that before. They were tired from the day, so they took advantage of my offer to stay another night and decided to go site seeing today. I pointed them to the Amish cheese factory and off they went, nice couple. Here's some fish.....and the woodchuck

North Branch Susquehanna River 7/4/08
I've neglected to make any posts in a week or so, been pretty busy with Charters and Lessons. The fishing has been good and we are still catching some nice fish and averaging 60-80 fish a day. The water is stained and 75 degrees and most days the weather is great with a afternoon thunderstorm to cool it off. We are seeing allot of wildlife including, eagles young and mature, a ton of blue heron, deer with their fawns, and the occasional beaver. I've had a couple of trophy rock bass caught one 10" and one 11", they have been submitted for an angler awards for the lucky anglers. I still have some openings in July and August for anyone itching to fish the river, I'd love to see ya!! Here's some pics.....Check out the pink smallie

North Branch Susquehanna River 6/21/2008
I took Louie from NJ and his brother in law Sebastiao Lazaro Brandao Filho from Sao Paulo, Brazil fishing Saturday. They came up the night before to stay in the guest house and for the bonus time on my lake. It was a day of firsts, first time on the Susky, first smallmouth for both of them, and first walleye for Louie. I was happy to be the one to help with their accomplishments, and we had a pretty good day. His brother spends allot of time fishing for peacock bass, I didn't get to much info about it as he didn't speak a lick of English. He must have been enjoying himself though cause he would laugh out loud everytime he would hook up We had to run from lightning a few times but we managed to have a good time regardless. here's some pics......

Fathers Day gift
Normally when my 5 year old go's into my boat to mess around with my rods I get pretty angry ( he's broke a few) Well he just came running in to tell me he got a rod, made a few casts, that he was patient and jigged it up and down real slow, felt the bite, waited, and pulled real hard and caught a fish.
