I use a 6'8" Medium extra fast mojo bass casting rod with 30 lb braid to a 14 lb mono leader for topwater and jerkbaits. If you use ned/ dropshot rigs your going to need a spinning rod, I use a 7'6" medium light extra fast mojo bass spinning rod with 15 lb braid to an 8 lb fluorocarbon leader.

Thank you for letting me know this information. Like I said, this is my first time fishing for spring smallmouth. After reading up on it, I have decided to follow your guide, I don't want to risk the fish and the future population of the lake. I will fish near drop offs and stay away from the shallow gravel/sand flats. Thank you for being kind and not scolding me for my lack of knowledge on the subject.

I just bought the 2.4 inch, 1/4 oz Dark Sleeper. I was planning on throwing it on a 6'10" medium light spinning rod with 10 lb braid to a 5lb flourocarbon leader. Does anyone agree with the setup I am using or should I use something else?
