Curado worm gear issue
I haven’t tried that, I’ll see if that does anything

Curado worm gear issue
In general the reel doesn’t spin as freely and there feels like more resistance. If I have the drive gear off and just spin the worm gear it is choppy when spinning

Curado worm gear issue
So I currently have 2 Curado K reels. An 8.5 and a 7.4. The 7.4 is flawless and has always been good, the 8.5 on the other hand has meanwhile became a little tight when reeling. Like the handle takes a lot more effort to turn than my free spinning 7.4. So I took it apart, soaked the bearings in acetone, re-oiled them, cleaned and regreased the gears, the whole 9 yards. Just gutted the whole thing and cleaned it. However it still didn’t change anything. One thing I noticed that is most likely the issue is that when I spin the handle shaft with just the idle gears, it is pretty choppy. The handle idle gear has a bearing on it and spins nice, but the worm idle gear has a bushing and is really choppy and hard to spin. This issue is not present in the other reel. Does anyone know what would cause this? Thank you

2020 Tatula SV or 2021 Zillion SV?
I’m looking for a reel for my Champ XP 734c and I can’t decide which reel to get. I had a Curado K on it before but I moved that over to my heavy jig rod. The Champ is my best overall rod and while I love the Curado, I’ve really been wanting a newer Daiwa. The 2 reels I’m really considering are the new Tatula SV and the new Zillion SV. The Tatula Elite has also caught my eye too. My budget is 350, but if the Tatula reels are just as good, then I can save a little money and be happy. Thanks for y’all’s help!

Bps rods/reels
From what I’ve used of theirs: 7ft MHF Carbonlite 2.0 rod - wouldn’t pay 120 for them but if you get the combo or get it on sale it’s a good deal. Probably closer to a 100-110 dollar rod performance wise. Love the Winn grips and the line dial on the butt is nice 7’1” MF Platinum Signature rod - very good, light, nice sensitivity. Back when they were 180 they were a good price. For 200, there are better rods but nothing wrong with the Platinum Sig. Fuji SiC guides, Winn grips, etc 7ft MHF Patriot rod - same price as the PS rods but made in the USA. Very soft tip followed by a nice strong backbone 1/4-1/3 of the way down. Where the PS rod is more stiff and would be a better bottom contact rod, I feel the Patriot is a better moving bait rod with the tip it has. I love it for slinging rat-L-Traps. It’s VERY light. Paired with a 6.4oz Lews Custom SLP I forget I’m holding a rod sometimes. I’d happily pay full price for these rods. Carbonlite 2.0 reels - nice and smooth, only 6.7oz for a 130 dollar reel. Basically like any other 10 bearing, dual brake Lews. I’m sure it’s very similar to a Tournament MP but with 6 pin centrifugal brakes instead of 4 pin. I’d take a Tatula or an SLX XT over it for the price but if you are a Lews fan then you won’t be disappointed.

2022 Shimano Exprides!
Maybe the old Exprides will eventually go on sale and I can pick one up lol

How many rod brands do you use?
Dobyns, St. Croix, Shimano, Abu and a couple of BPS sticks. There are so many good rod brands that you really can’t go wrong as long as you get one with the specs that fit your needs

Learning Lefty
Right hand on the reel, left on the butt. Have to switch hands after every cast lol

Learning Lefty
I stopped by Cabela’s today and saw the Carbonlite 2.0 reels on sale for 89 bucks, and had to pick one up with the 90 dollars worth of gift cards I got from Christmas. I got the last one and it was a lefty…I figured this is a perfect opportunity to learn how to fish with a left handed reel and I’m wondering how the transition from right to left was from y’all. How long did it take to get it down? And is the switch worth it?

So I Received a Christmas Bonus...
Congrats on the bonus! And I hope you like whatever you get with it. I run a 6’10 MHF Zodias with a 8.5:1 Curado K for jigs and t-rigs and it is an amazing combo. They pair perfectly and if you want to jump to the DC that’s even better. Can’t go wrong with those. Merry Christmas!

Kaden or Champ XP
Thank y’all for your help! Went ahead and ordered a Champ XP 734c split grip. Gonna throw my 7.4:1 Curado K on it and that will be my workhorse combo now

Kaden or Champ XP
Looking for a good MH moving bait rod for spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, and chatterbaits mainly. I have a MHF 7’ JM Patriot but it fishes more like a medium. Looking to get a 4 power Dobyns but I can’t decide whether to get the Kaden 714 or the Champion XP 734. I currently use a Fury 734 but I want something a little lighter weight. The Kaden is $125 at TW right now and the XP would be $189. Is the XP worth the extra 65 bucks or would the Kaden be almost as good? I have a 712s Kaden and like it but was wondering how much better the XP is. Thank you

Dobyns Rods - Which Rods to get for a variety of different techniques?
Not familiar with the Champ XP series but I know a lot of folks love the 744c as an all rounder. Throw in a 733c and save a little money by picking up a Fury 705cb for cranks and you should be set. I love my Kaden and Furys. Might have to capitalize on the sale too lol. Good luck with whatever you get!

which line of dobyns rod to buy?
I have 4 Fury’s and a Kaden and think the Kaden is way better than the Fury. Nothing against the Fury series but you get what you pay for. Never fished a Champ XP but hear good things about them. Also with the fury line and I believe the Champ line as well, the heavy power rods fish like medium heavy’s. So the 734c would be a good rod for those lines. As for the Kaden they fish a closer to a power above what they are stated as. My Kaden 712s is labeled a medium light but fishes like a medium. Yes it’s weird but they are all good rods. I find the Fury series a little on the heavy side weight wise so that’s my only gripe about them but they are all really balanced and have a good action. Those are the areas Dobyns excels at. I’d go with a Kaden or a Champ XP but you can’t go wrong with a Fury either

Pflueger Reels
Is there any way to alleviate the tight handle/coffee grinder feel that it seems like every pflueger reel has these days? Do they just need torn down and lubed up or is it a design flaw? I have 3 presidents that are all like this. It’s especially bad on my 20 size but my 30 and 35 have the same thing, and I noticed at Cabelas that the Presidents on display are like this too. Would greasing them up help any?

First casting rod!
What’s your budget? If you like your Tatula you could get it in a caster. They have a 7’1” MHF that would be a good all round rod. And are you looking for a reel as well?

Power, action and lure
BassForecast tells you what lures to use for certain conditions and when you click on the lure it tells you what kind of rod and reel to use. Pretty neat but the full version ain’t free. Like 10 bucks a year though so it’s worth it IMO

Broomstick for big jigs?
Well the Abu Garcia Veracity I ordered just came in. What I thought was a 7ft Heavy fast was actually an extra fast. Doing a tip test it is about as stiff as my Fury 735 but with less tip action. I was gonna replace the fury with the Veracity as a frog/football jig rod for the lower weight and higher sensitivity but I doubt it has enough tip for frogging. Would it still work well for 3/4 to 1oz jigs? I bet those could easily load it up for casting but what about hooksets and fighting fish? The rod is lighter and very sensitive so that’s a plus lol. Thank you ?

Spinning rod recommendations?
Well I’ve narrowed it down to the 7ft MF Zodias, 712s Kaden, and the St Croix Victory based on Tackle Warehouse availability and y’all’s input, thank you ?. As far as the Victory, would the 6’8” MXF or 7’3” MXF be better for Ned, Wacky, and Shakeyheads? That’s mostly what I’m throwing on it. And I only use fluoro/mono on my spinning reels so I’m not too worried about the XF action lol

Spinning rod recommendations?
Thank you, I’ve been looking into the Victory rods and that 7’1” MF looks perfect. Might swing by Scheels next week to see if they got one or order one online if they don’t

Spinning rod recommendations?
Got the 3000 because it’s all they had at Academy and I like the extra line capacity in case I do wanna put it on a cat rod and throw bigger line on it. Probably gonna put 8-10lb Trilene XL on it for bass Are they stiff like the gen 3 Veritas? I have a 7ft medium one that is sensitive but has very little action to it. I do see you can get a Veracity for almost half off right now though which is intriguing lol
