St. Croix Premier vs Victory Rod... Worth the upgrade?
I have a premier spinning, mojo bass spinning (old SCII) and a Victory casting. Always felt the premier was even a step below the mojo bass and the Victory is certainly above the mojo. If I were you I would absolutely pick up a victory for $120.

Recessed trolling motor installation
The first 2 photos are of whats under there. The fully stripped hull is from a guy on another forum, the one with carpet is mine after the cut. You will have to pull off the angled front panel and drill out the 2 rivets holding the rod tubes. I also drilled out the 2 rivets holding them in from the rod locker end and removed them completely. I had to cut mine down I believe 3" but after installing the tray I was able to reinstall them and push them to the sides of the tray and re-rivet everything in place. The carpeted rod tray you see through the hold I had to wack with a rubber mallet just to bend the "ears" off to the side more for the tray to fit low enough. I havent had any issues with rod storage even with the tray in though. These photos in the next post are of the full mods I did to the front to gain the 8" or so that angled piece takes up. 8" doesnt sound like a lot but on my 175 when you put the tray in you are practically standing in the middle of the deck or further back...very little room. And the remaining... You can buy Kydex sheets fair cheap, cut easy with a razor and bending (similar to drywall) and hold up to the weather very well. Under the angle piece that comes on the tracker they skimped on plywood and left about a 2" gap around the whole nose under that piece. I made a filler piece and screwed it down to the 2 aluminum angle supports. I could have done a better job with the filler piece but I plan on redoing the carpet in the next year or so.

Recessed trolling motor installation
For the foot pedal? Just did it about a month or 2 ago. Retained full use of the 8' rod tubes also on the 175 tracker and I modified up front to gain 8+" of deck space. What are you specifically needing to know.

Kayak Coolers?
havent used it for kayaking but the Pelican 14qt personal cooler is a nice size for a day trip and has some nice features for dry storage. Good price at $100 too. They have a larger size if you wanted a bit more. I own a 30qt and have used it in the NC sun for 3 days straight outdoors and still had cool drinks on the original load of ice. Very well built coolers

FG knot technique ("FG knot in under a minute")
Sounds like you might not have enough tensions when weaving the leader into the braid. I wound up looping the leader material (not tag end) around my ring finger a few times so I can keep good tension on the leader. This lets me get more tension on the braid/rod when weaving.

FG knot technique ("FG knot in under a minute")
This has been the easiest method for me from 6lb to 20lb. Havent had an occasion to try heavier yet. Can tie it in a yak the same as a boat, just need a bit of rod tip tension.

Sometimes You Gotta Laugh
about a month ago I had just finished putting in my new Force TM on 24v, previously only had a 45lb thrust 12v. Well I cranked the speed up to about 7 or 8, put the TM in the water and didnt realize since the peddle wasnt center the TM would quickly go that way once I put in any direction input. Well I hit the gas and must have moved the peddle a little and the front shot left HARD. I instinctively threw my foot hard right and pushed to keep myself from both falling and going over the side, over stretched my leg and fell backwards mid fall and somersaulted backwards off my deck into the seated area. Fortunately and unfortunately no one was around...after all that I wanted it to at least be entertaining for someone other than myself. It was a hell of a ride.

What's the First Thing You Throw?
depends on when I start. Early morning is a topwater, anytime after 7/8am is a spinner. Can fish a spinner a lot of ways to cover the water column and activity level. After that its shaky heads, jigs and jerk baits.

That “one” lure
Purple worm texas rigged during the day. Black double jointed jitterbug at night time. Those were the only 2 lures he used and those are what I learned on and grew up with. Purple worms we used to get at fishing shows in new york at a booth called "the Worm Bar". They used to sell worms by the pound and wed load up on huge plastic bags. Sadly cant find it anymore but found similar worms. Still working through some of those plastic bags though.

ARK rods.....
I bought a Tharp Hammer when Tacklewarehouse had them on sale and like it. Its sensitive but dont think you are going to use leaders with it, those eyes are very small even with the FG knot passing through. Sensitivity wise I'd say its close to my Dobyns Sierra. I like to try a variety of rods but I'd buy another if they went on sale again. Caught a 9.5lb channel cat on a 1/2oz spinner in 30ft of water and it handled it like a champ for reference.

Beginner Fishing for Pike and Pickerel
Never had a problem being cut off with the 12-20. I will say majority of the time I'm targeting them I'm using a spinner or buzz bait. Wire in the lure may help keep the teeth from the line better than a fluke type lure.

Beginner Fishing for Pike and Pickerel
The pickerel and pike you will catch around WP aren't nearly big enough to warrant 80lb mono. Tie on some 12-20lb mono and you are good. Berkley big game and a 2ft leader is plenty and easy to find. White spinner baits, weightless paddletail flukes fished like a jerkbait, jerkbaits, buzzbaits and slow rolling double jointed floating jerkbaits have all been the most effective. Either shad color or white for everything. Weeds and timber are the prime places you will find them and sunrise to sunset.

Smith Mountain Lake Fishing Guide?
I don't know about guides but I stayed there for a week and fished around the same time period. Couldn't find any vegetation and most my fish came from rip rap banks and drop offs around flats in the 10-15' range with plastics. My range was limited in a small aluminum boat and 9hp motor but I hear the southern "fork" is better for lmb fishing. Good luck.

Transducer location
Picked up a Garmin echomaps 93sv uhd and am trying to figure out the transducer location. Instructions say closest to center line but at least 15 inches from prop edge. 15" puts my transducer hanging completely unprotected, 9-10" away (and not behind a strake) puts me at the approximate 10mm from bottom of hull but is the fact it's within 15" going to screw it up? I want it set up to read at speed (boat max is 40mph). Is there a better mount that will suck the transducer higher but still let me read at speed with the step?

Would appreciate some fresh ideas....
Haven't fished Loon lake but have been to Black Lake often. Used to hammer them on a weightless paddle tail fluke, white spinner bait and frogs. As mentioned anywhere you could find weed beds that came out close to a drop off of a submerged weed bed by an island or secondary point. I'd say 5-10ft was the sweet spots, the water up there is usually cooler. Be prepared though, we probably caught just as many pike as we did bass with that strategy.

Gaston 7/30 to 8/7
I've fished gaston a few times and caught some OK fish but will be on it for a week 7/30 to 8/7. I'll more of less be staying on the northern side from goat Island and have my boat with me so range anywhere isn't an issue. Can anyone recommend areas to search in or any particular lure? I've mostly been fishing off main lake points, secondary main lake points and drop off transitions around some islands. Most luck has been coming from spinners and shakyhead but I'm sure there is better than what I've been getting.

Secondary battery for boat electronics
https://www.amazon.com/ML12-12-Battery-Terminal-Mighty-Product/dp/B00K53FG5Q/ref=sr_1_5?crid=FQYCWR1XFYND&dchild=1&keywords=12v+12ah+battery&qid=1624555880&sprefix=12v+12%2Caps%2C234&sr=8-5 I run a Striker+ 4CV off this and I can get multiple full day uses off it before I need to charge. I know Kayaks can get cramped but it should be fairly easy to find a home for this.

Favorite moving bait?
probably a spinnerbait and followed closely with a weightless paddletail fluke. I feel I can adapt either to a good range of conditions/environments and get good results.

1911
Carried a Sig 938 Scorpion 9mm mini "1911" for a good 3-4 years before I switched to a P07 but still love the little gun. (other 2 are fathers and brother in laws). Shot some kimbers, Dan Wessons and Ed Browns but the Dan Wessons are to me the top. I'd have to spend a lot of money to top a DW and honestly I'm not sure the minor refinements I'd gain would ever be worth the huge cost bump. Purchased a Colt M45A1 since I have a collection going of USMC rifles. I build clone USMC sniper rifles and Raider m4 setups. M45 followed the Raider collection so it won out over the DW for that alone. I will own DW one day.

Worm and jig setup?
-2 daiwa fuego CTs -St. Croix Victory -Other rod that fits what other technique youd want (dobyns fury, falcon bucoo, ARK, etc.) I feel you can skimp on reels more than you can rods. The fuego cts will not leave you needing anything else and the St. Croix Victory (even dobyns sierra) will be an excellent bottom contact rod. The Marshal should cover most of what youd want to throw. The 2 reels and the Victory still leave about $120 for a 2nd rod for whatever technique you want to cover.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I'm not sure if it was the bait monkey but definitely a relative hit me good. Garmin echmap 93sv uhd gt56 Garmin Force Shows up Wednesday and I need to talk to this monkey again to get all the wiring in going to be to redue now.

What's On Your Deck?
Usually... -Ned Rig -Weightless paddle tail fluke -jig of some kind -Shaky head -crankbait of some flavor -Spinnerbait If I get out early enough i'll usually throw on a popper to one of those rods. If I cant get a bite on a shaky head, fluke or spinner its usually going to be a very slow day for me. Those are my highest producing setups by quite a bit.

I finally introduced myself to some Spotted Bass.
Yup, I probably spend a lot more time at a spot than I should after its cooled down trying to catch that one big one that followed the others up. Always seems hungry but never when its free for the taking!

Tight Line or Slack Line hookset?
Tight. I've had too many bass spit it out as I went slackline to set and never notice until I came up empty. Tight lets me feel when they spit it and pick it back up better.
