Help me select a jig/worm rod
You made a good choice, I have one of those victory marshals and it’s definitely a step above the mojo bass rod. You should be happy with it.

I am in southwest Michigan, but I fish the Kalamazoo river quite a bit. Mainly in allegan but some in Kalamazoo also, the river has had a over abundance of pike this year for some reason or another. Comstock is supposed to be pretty decent also but nothing luck wise on my end. I mainly fish the river from the bank there’s a decent amount of spots to fish. There’s allegan dam also that’s supposed to be decent also, I have caught a couple there but nothing huge really. Then in otsego there’s a really decent looking spot to hit but you would need to float down the river to fish it, I have not had the luxury of fishing this particular spot but I definitely want to.

Definitely looking forward to what you think of the new setup especially the rod. I have been looking for one locally but all I ever saw was a glx 855, I really want to get a 895 in the future. That’s definitely a very nice setup for a really decent price.

Megabass Orochi XX?
I have the perfect pitch rod with a 20 met b on it with 16lb daiwa j fluorocarbon hidden concept line, I have used the rod for Texas rigs and jigs, including swim jigs. The rod is extremely sensitive and I feel it was well worth the price. I would say that it’s just as if not more sensitive than my glx, as a reference I use to own 2 conquest, 844, 843mbr, three nrx plus rods, 894 jwr, 873 crr, 853 jwr and I have a st croix legend xtreme and I feel that the perfect pitch is right on point with all of them. I hope this helps and good luck.

Well my Friday streak of smallmouth at Jaycee park in allegan is still going, that’s 3 weeks in a row on a Friday that I catch something. I lost a jig to a tree branch in the water hidden, I felt the line tighten and get heavy and I swung. Then I was like yep that’s a branch lol. I lost another jig to a pike, felt the hit dropped my rod tip down towards it reeled up any slack and set hard. Felt it get tight and felt it pop, jig no more. I caught my tiny smallie on a 1/2 megabass blade bait yo yoing it. Caught this fish in less than 15 minutes and thought it could be a good day, it was a good day I didn’t get skunked ?

I would guess 4.5-4.75, looks about like a couple that I caught earlier this year. I know that once I got my scale it did make it a lot easier. I am still going for my goal this year a 7lb largemouth, last year it was going for a 6lb didn’t make it so this year it went up a pound lol. Here’s a couple pics for reference, one’s 4.4 and the other is 4.74lbs. I took the kayak out this afternoon and fought the wind. Caught 4-5 nothing special pics are of first fish and largest fish. I brought 4 rods and only needed one lol, caught them all on a jig with a rage chunk trailer.

Some more small fish out of me, but hey I am not complaining. Use to be I could never catch fish at this park, also using a left handed baitcaster for the challenge made it even more fun. I love a challenge.

Yeah it’s definitely taking me a while to get use to the new design of the Yamamoto stuff. I am use to the old style, I understand from a marketing standpoint they wanted to show that they changed ownership and want to be different. But to me it just looks like most other modern plastic packaging lol.

Had a storm roll through the other day and it has been pretty darn windy since. Got out two days ago, the day after the storm wind was strong light braid of my bfs setup and a 4.5 robo worm was not doing anything but blowing back at me on the weed line. Persevering for a hour and a half didn’t catch squat, but I tried lol. Still windy yesterday so I held off. I got out today and it was a lot calmer, broke out the robo worm 4.5 fat in watermelon magic on a 2/0 gama fineness hook. Caught 3 small ones, shifted colors and went with a 4.5 straight tail in black grape, caught the biggest small fish of the day and a couple more. Changed baits again to a local stick bait m pierce I think, called stink o stick garlic scented in perch color caught 1 more. Then I went back to my nemesis lure as of lately the pop x in baby bass color, I had to change the hooks out due to catching a pike on it earlier this year. Was a very long process missed a few, blew a few but finally caught a small one mission accomplished. All in all tiny fish but it felt good to get some redemption lol.

Rage Tail color inconsistencies
I have noticed this also with different products from rage tail, all across the board. Lately it’s been the menace in summer craw for me some had the light, dark and light green highlights. Then some just looked like green pumpkin. I think it’s just part of the manufacturing process if I had to guess. Hope this helps you out.

Throwing the swim jig lately, trying to get confidence in it. Seems to work good to me, finally tried to match trailer size, color and jig all in something more natural. I like to throw crazy color combinations here and there. This was a dirty jigs 3/8 oz swim jig in Alabama craw with a 3.8 keitech in sungill. This is my sunfish, blue gill colors that I shoot for normally. Missed one caught a small one, the small guy adjusted my trailer a tiny bit and gave it some great action afterwards lol. Looked great in the water then I caught this other small one, 3.44lb not huge but ok. Definitely was a good day, not bad for 45 minutes. Have a good weekend everyone.

Finally got out again, caught 2 yesterday. Smaller ones, did not bother to take pictures, one on a evergreen grass ripper swim jig chartreuse and white with a rage menace rigged vertically in summer craw, next small one came on a chatter bait once again white and chartreuse with a beast coast blade runner in chartreuse pumpkin I think. I caught 2 more small ones tonight, one came wacky rigged on a owner ultra head 1/32 jig head with a chompers salty sinker in huckleberry, the one I took came on the same evergreen grass ripper swim jig with a Berkley 4.3 paddle tail in bass candy color. Both fish were caught in the dark, I have fished here enough in my kayak that I knew of a deep pocket that had to hold a fish. I need to buy a new jig though accidentally turned my handle too far on my steez with the hook in the handle slot. Jammed up tight, couldn’t get it out and wanted to use my swim jig, pliers to the rescue. Bent the hook out gently and removed it and bent it back and caught the fish in the pics. I need to look into one of those Fuji hook keeper things.

Thank you.For sure, it’s tricky to get the bigger ones at spring valley with all of the pressure it gets but they are there none the less.

Got the kayak out again yesterday caught 20 fish, various sizes. 4-5 caught on a wacky rig. The rest I caught all on a beast coast 1/2 oz tungsten flipping jig chartreuse pumpkin with a rage chunk in summer craw. I caught 3 fish on back to back cast, figured the deeper point would pay off and it did lol. Fought the wind kept catching them here and there. Decided to look for a bigger fish. Headed back to a small part of spring valley that doesn’t get as much pounding. I saw the cove and couldn’t pass it up it looked way too good. Messed around targeted the tree nobody home looked down the bank and saw a clump of lily pads on a point bingo caught this nice 3.90lb one less than 20 feet away from me. I called it a day with that one. I was definitely happy with that, it’s my biggest fish out of spring valley so far.

Nothing big size wise, but I took the kayak out on Sunday and caught over 30 fish. Was fun only anchored once just picked apart the cover and banks with a steady drift from the wind. I didn’t take pictures of all of them got old after a while, easier to unhook them and let them go about there business. Caught the most on a light weight Texas rig unpegged, I think 3/16 caught 2 on a lipless and one on a wake bait.

Once again another jig fish for me this year over 4lbs, that’s three over 4 lb fish all on the jig this year for me. This one was 4.74 lbs, my pb of the year for me and definitely my pb that has been weighed. Was a nice fight on my medium light casting rod, abu xenon rod and a curado bfs reel. My bfs setup basically, jig was a beast coast hybrid hustler 1/4 oz in elite craw with a rage chunk in Okeechobee blue. I am starting to feel ok with a jig in my hand now lol, feels good and I am excited.
