  1. You know it, maybe that’s why I like crawling and hopping around on the 100-500 ton presses at work. Maybe I am a monkey lol, I didn’t even throw the lures that I bought yesterday. Planned on it but like normal, bring a lot use a little bit of stuff. Of course it doesn’t help that one of the most productive areas of the lake is a weed line to a break. Weightless senko for the win. Hard to fish but it works great, 10 fish per senko is not too bad.
  2. Chucking and winding is a simple thing. Cast retrieve and repeat. The simple task is overly complicated with all of the variables that you can introduce to your retrieve method. Stop and go, crank pause jerk. Yo yo along with burn it with a few pauses and twitches here and there. Biggest thing is that you don’t want your bait to have a pattern, break it up and find the retrieve that works and repeat to be successful.
  3. Great job @ol'crickety looks like you had a great day on the water. I really admire your dedication to learn and your persistence to keep going. I love reading your fishing reports, keep up the good work and enjoy your beautiful bogs and ponds and thank you for sharing your adventures with us all.
  4. You know it, the more that I collect the more picky I get about what exactly that I want. I am already overwhelmed with rods again. Heck one of my friends from work who is just getting into fishing has gotten some great deals from me. Like a kage spinning rod and a ballistic reel for $100 and I loaded him a 3700 tray with high end top waters, crank baits, frogs and buzz baits and jigs even chatter baits along with various plastics all for $80. I like helping people get into the sport and having good gear. Maybe 2 hours if you are lucky lol.
  5. I caught my first Chad shad fish, just a tiny little guy but better than my first fish on a mag draft. I caught 10+on a weightless stick bait after I was done throwing the glide. I had plenty of followers but no takers but it is all part of throwing big baits, I see my swim bait collection growing soon. A wake gill and a deps 160 bull shooter and a few more on the way maybe a real Chad shad. The tequila baccarat feels really good with the spro Chad shad and I like my casting distance with my tatula 200 and 50lb braid.
  6. You got it right there lol, you never know what is going to be on our shores.
  7. Exactly why I chose them, I am an odd man of opposites. I do the reverse of normal and it works for me. Gin clear water I throw black and blue baits. And catch 4+ lb fish so if it works for me I keep doing it. Maybe I get lucky with fish that are too eager, but that is not the case for this lake. I caught my pb on a green pumpkin jig out of this exact lake. So it must not be a fluke, although I fish a very stained water pond that they will only eat natural colors for the most part. It’s only normal if you agree with it, throw caution to the wind and go for it and let me know the results. Every body of water is different but hey it works for me, I have pulled a 4+ lb bass out of that pond using black and blue colors. A local Ollie’s haul after my work friends saying that we might go to a frog 🐸 lake lol. I might be wrong but I am going with two colors of frogs and a reel my new to fishing friend can blow up plus a backup just to be sure lol.
  8. Well I finally got my reel for my tequila baccarat rod. I went with a tatula 200 for $140 otd and 50lb j braid along with a rod sock. Not too bad of a deal. I may have to invest in a leader in the future but for now I am good.
  9. A couple of new spinner baits lol, I got a box full of them but not this blade combo. So I had to get them. Both a 1/2 oz, I have heard good things about them on here.
  10. Thank you, sounds about like what I figured the upper range would be. Yeah I plan on using 20lb mono and I know that mono tends to run a little bit thicker. I know that I am not going to be bombing cast due to the stretch at distance and the thicker gauge trebles on most small to mid size glides and swim baits.
  11. How did the tatula 200 feel on the rod ? I am curious because it’s one of the reels that I am considering. I am also thinking about a tranx 200 or maybe a tatula 150 but I have not been able to decide on what one yet. Also how did the rod handle the weight of the bait ? I have heard that 2.5 is getting towards the top end of the rod, thank you for your advice I appreciate it.
  12. Well I got some more smaller stuff to throw on my bfs setup, not really bfs weight stuff but the local pickings are slim. Plus some reins plastics at reduced price. I will have to be careful not to spool my poor bfs reel with these lures.
  13. Well my bfs gear got me a nice little bass lol. Hey at least I caught a bass and the other stuff I caught is in the other species thread.
  14. Got out today after work with the bfs setup, nothing big but the pike was interesting on 4Lb test mono. Sorry for the bad photo of the pike but I wanted my lure back and he snapped the line once he got to the bank. All on the 1/8 square bill.
  15. First glide to go with my tequila baccarat, I have been looking for this color and lo and behold I found it locally. I need to get a new reel soon for throwing these.
  16. Went fishing on my work friends boat today along with another one of the guys that I am friends with. It was a slow day for me at first, I was getting my butt handed to me lol. Nothing big size wise, but I stayed patient and caught the 3 largest fish of the day. Would have been 4 but one threw my lure back at me. One came off boat side trying to get it in the boat. Although I came back with a vengeance with the chatter bait and caught up with them in the end. I also caught the last fish of the day. I only got one picture because I was not worried about getting pictures, I wanted to catch up. My one buddy could have probably wiped the floor with me but he didn’t really fish much, he use to tournament fish. He told me to long arm it and I don’t do that so I chose to use the picture that made my fish look smaller. Stay humble and proud and persevere through the diversity is my moto.
  17. They are pretty good for the most part, I use them a lot in rivers for smallmouth and have caught some decent pike on them also. The screwlock keeper bends after a while but they are fairly durable.
  18. Yeah the difference in room between a canoe and kayak is really polarizing to say the least. I am a fairly young fellow and I got tired of taking the kayak off the deck and through the apartment and then down the stairs. Just to load it on top of the suv plus my gear first otherwise you could not open the hatch. Then unloading it all fishing for 6+ hours just to load it all and fight the stairs and apartment to get it back onto the deck. A 90lb kayak is not heavy but after all of that it gets quite fatiguing. Along with it being 12 foot long, it just got old really quickly and I wished that I bought a truck lol.
  19. That looks like a good time, sorry to hear that your wrist is bothering you 😥. I had an old town predator Mx 12 kayak that I used to fish out of. Was very stable to stand and fish in, even in 1.5 foot swells. You just had to keep your rhythm correct. I agree with it feeling like you don’t have enough space in one. There very fun but you feel constricted a lot, I use to take 4 combos and a large tackle bag. From experience you don’t need everything that you want to take, keep it simple to make it more enjoyable. 2 combos and some terminal and plastics and a couple top water lures and you will be good to go for sure.
  20. That’s what the guy at the local tackle shop said also, figured why not you can never have too many hooks in reality.
  21. I had to restock ona couple more things, after the outing I had yesterday. I caught a decent fish after 2 hours of struggling to connect with the bites. I figured that it had to be down to a geometry issue of too big of hook versus the size of plastic. 2 packs 4.2 sweet beavers Houdini, Spanish fly 2 packs air tail wiggler 6.5” trophy hunter, ssabednarg 1 pack 5” senko houdini 3 packs 3/0 hooks owner twistlock, wide gap plus, g lock worm 1 pack owner ultra head shaky type 1/16 4/0 I will see how these work out, hopefully good.
  22. We are what interprets this sensitivity in a rod. Fish against a pro and give the pro a $50 dollar rod and they will beat you, even if you have a NRX+. Experience and time are what determines how good you are along with your own ability to determine bites and feel. I don’t disagree with you about them being great rods, although are abilities to feel what they transmit are the biggest factor. Unless you are fishing for money we don’t really need to have that fraction of a difference. My observations and opinion, I respect your opinion and observations and don’t challenge them.
  23. Well I went to one of my local lakes that has given me 3 pb bass and who knows after today it might be 4 of them. I didn’t pack a scale but she was over 21 inches and fiesty. Caught on a candy grass d bomb with a 1/8 bullet weight pegged. I caught two other ones that were small and had a 2lb throw my lure back at me when it rocketed out of the water. I even managed to cut my toes pretty decently on something in the muck. I don’t care it was worth it.
  24. That’s what I always called them was rock bass, although my old 3rd shift supervisor calls them mud bass so I go with that term lol. Yes, I agree on the rock bass part. I always find them in muddy areas so I call them mud bass like my old 3rd shift supervisor calls them. Pike eat absolutely anything for the most part, so do rock or mud bass from my observations.
