  1. I have owned 2 and still have one of them. I had the workhorse and used it for a little bit of everything and it was really good at it all. Normal st croix sensitivity that is precise and clean, that is one thing that I will say about st croix rods is that there on point sensitivity wise and have good components, warranty and are extremely tough and durable. The only one that I have now is the jerk bait model and I have not had any catches on it so far, although I bought it in the middle of winter. But I have took it out and casted it and it’s spot on for what I wanted, at the price point it’s a good value.
  2. Yes I would assume it only applies to in store purchases unfortunately sorry about that. I was talking to one of the salesman and he let me know, he didn’t say anything about online. Believe me at this price I was tempted but I had my eyes set on a heavy cover setup. I was looking for a NRX+ 895 JWR. I have always wanted to try one since I owned a glx 894 and just wanted a little bit more power.
  3. Thanks for the input on the rod, I appreciate it. I bought some 4Lb fluorocarbon when I got the reel, sniper of course. I figured it’s a good middle of the road test, I used 7lb braid in the past but the wind made me hate it. Your line would get blown into trees and was a reel headache unfortunately. I had even used 15lb braid in the past but felt like it defeated the whole purpose, using skill and knowledge is the name of the game for BFS fishing.
  4. Thanks for the input on the rod, how’s it due with lower, upper end weights of the rating ? Thanks for the recommendation and input, yeah I am looking to get below the 1/16 range even some. I know that it kind of eliminates some things but I want to go lighter this time around. I have a couple decent spinning setups that I want to compare it to. I love baitcasters though and bfs so down the rabbit hole I went.
  5. From a local shop, they said yes there going to release a new one. D&R sports center in Kalamazoo. 40% off all glx rods.
  6. That one is definitely on my radar, along with the hunt. BFS bait monkey is running off with my wallet lol.
  7. Thanks for clarifying that, I couldn’t really remember. I am sure that I will like the reel, I was going to get a stout rod and ended up going bfs. I love finesse fishing though so that explains it. Very true about the net part, gotta treat the rods with care for sure. This will be my first actual bfs rod, I was using an abu Garcia xenon ML for my last setup with my curado bfs. Although I wanted to step my game up lol, I will check those rods out. Thank you for the recommendations, I appreciate it. I couldn’t resist the alderbarren bfs when I saw it.
  8. Ok, will do. Thank you for the advice and another option.
  9. I just got a alderbarren bfs and need some rod recommendations, I like the sierra ultra finesse but can’t remember what ones have the solid tip. I want to stay around 7 foot on length and the weight range will be 1/16-1/4, line2-8lb test and mostly use jig heads and plastics and other finesse presentations. price range is very open, thanks again.
  10. I got out for a hour today and caught 5-6 fish, probably lost as many as I caught. I don’t really like the rod that I was using and the crank bait made it tricky to get a solid hookup due to its size. But I managed to land one of the biggest crappies that I have caught at this spot so far, so that’s a win in my book. They were not chasing it and striking it, had to work it like a jerk bait or jig it. Wait to see the flash and feel the weight and then play them some to get the hooks in. I made it work and enjoyed it, always more than one way to work a crank bait you just have to think outside of the box sometimes lol.
  11. Well I got out for 30 minutes today and caught one on a 1/64oz jig head and little swim bait. The rod casted the jig head without the plastic far enough for me to be happy, with it I was getting even more distance.
  12. Well the temperature dropped and the wind died a little bit, but definitely still there. I caught 2 fish and fished long enough that my hands were numb and tying on different jig heads was a 5 minute process. I don’t mind the cold but my hands and feet don’t like it one bit. Larva z still doing the work.
  13. Got a new cheap reel for my ultralight, wanted to try some 2lb test, just spooled up a old beater that I had two days ago with 4Lb and didn’t feel like ripping it off to put 2lb on. I also got some line and some crappie baits to go with it lol.
  14. The temperature was nice today at 56 degrees, we had 14mph winds with gusts up to 30mph. I fished for 10-15 minutes and caught one fish and called it good. I didn’t want to get my 2lb line wrapped around stuff and nick it, 1/30 oz jig head and a larva z was the bait. The wind made it real hard to keep the bait down also so I accepted my 1 fish victory and felt good.
  15. Well I got out for 15 minutes today, 33 degrees and got the larva z to work for crappie with a 1/32 oz jig head. I caught 5 little guys.
  16. Well at least I didn’t get skunked, wind 8lb braid and a little bit stiffer ultra light rod meant I had to ditch the 1/32 jig head and larva z for a strike king bitsy jerk bait in bluegill 1/16 and I caught this little guy.
  17. Yes that’s the one, I was impressed with it for the price. I have heard nothing but good things about them, so I figured that I would try one.
  18. I wanted to get the larva z Ned baits out there a little ways further, local shop had a rod that interested me. Daiwa tatula xt 6’4 ul rated 1/64-1/8 oz so I figured why not. Considering the heads that fit the larva z are 1/32 and the plastic doesn’t weigh much. Also got a couple extra things and fondled a NRX+ 894 jwr, I think that I am going to order a 895 jwr I have wanted to try one for heavier cover and presentations.
  19. I wanted to try a smaller Ned setup, those larvaz don’t weigh anything and finding a hook that fits them is not easy either. I have been wanting to find more colors of the evo chatter bait and I did, so I grabbed a couple.
  20. I picked up a rod for hair jigs the other day, I got it out yesterday and it feels great.
  21. Thank you for the information, that’s what I was thinking. I just was confused because it doesn’t have the two tone blank or the AGS guides like the high end model. I think the one I got is the standard elite non AGS guides and standard grey blank. I got it out today and it feels great. Thank you to everyone who replied and offered very helpful feedback and information I finally figured it out. I am really going to like this rod after using it some today 🙂 thanks again everyone have a great night.
  22. Very true lol, it doesn’t matter what time it is. Always a good time to go fishing as long as the weather’s safe that is.
  23. I do go night fishing from 10pm-3am during the summer though. So that makes me first on the water besides the ducks, geese, swans right ?
  24. Yeah some of there ratings definitely leave me scratching my head at times. Although after a while we know what they will do from the feeling or feedback alone.
  25. I will settle for anything over 5lbs, I know there here for sure. Just gotta find em, although I was talking to a buddy last year who does tournaments and he said that he didn’t see many fish over 5lbs. My goal is a 7lb largemouth, it’s been extremely difficult for me to break the 5lb barrier though. Although one of the lakes that I fish probably has them it’s a private lake with no boat access. The only access is from a park and wading the bank, I gotta finish sealing up my boat that my friend gave me a nice old beat up John boat 10 foot that he use to use on the river so I might pull it off. There’s always hope and a way just gotta persevere through it all.
