  1. Read about it today as a superior knot for fluorocarbon and hybrid line like Yozuri. Going to have to try it. I was only using 10# Yozuri hybrid and tying knots was definitely more difficult than with mono and braid ?
  2. I have the MP and run the brakes around 2 and it casts a MILE. Smooth reeling and feels sturdy. VERY happy with the reel and highly recommend it.
  3. I fish mostly low-pressured private lakes, so I run straight 40# braid on my baitcasting MH/F t-rig setup, but I run #10 Yozuri hybrid on my baitcasting light lure m/f setup that I throw topwater on, and the occasional wacky rigged worm. Those are the main two rods I carry with me. If I carry a third, it's a spinning rod with 15# braid. My braid of choice is Powerpro in Green Moss and it's pretty hard to see in the grassy water where I fish.
  4. Rod: Basspro Johnny Morris Platinum Signature Rod, MH/F, 7'4" Reel: Daiwa Tatula CT, Left-handed, 7.3:1 Line: 40 lb Powerpro braid I've caught everything from crappie to 15-pound salmon on this setup. Just yesterday I caught my PB largemouth weighing in at 6 pounds throwing a chatterbait. I love it for t-rigs; I feel everything and for big fish like salmon it has plenty of backbone.
  5. Like the title says, I'm looking for feedback on this budget chatterbait combo I can put together at a local Basspro that's available: Reel: Lews Speedspool Left Handed, 7.5:1 Rod: Offshore Angler Gold Cup Inshore, MH, Moderate Fast, 7' I'll run this for bass and big pike.
  6. Reel: Daiwa Tatula CT in 7.3:1 I used this reel in Alaska last summer and caught over 100 salmon (all five species but the king was a little 2-3 pounder I'm not sure how it survived lol), several rainbows, and a couple pike in a week on it and it felt as solid at the end of the trip as at the beginning of the trip. I used 40 lb powerpro braided line, and it cast and reeled smoothly. Folks who fished with us wanted to try the reel and everyone loved it for its size, smoothness, casting, and weight.
  7. What are the reels you guys have with over 15 pounds of drag? Must be stout!
  8. I may have just overlooked discussions on this, but I don't remember seeing any. What is your max drag on the reel you use for your heavy rod setup for fishing in thick cover? I notice most reels around around the 10-13 lb range, and wondering if y'all are just thumbing, or getting a reel with beefier drag and cranking down on it.
  9. I'm preparing to check the rods - according to Delta's website, it should check as a regular piece of luggage since it's shorter than 110". Last year Atlanta let me go right through but Anchorage gave me some trouble and when I showed them the website and that the website literally says fishing poles less than 110", they waived fees like Atlanta.
  10. Took a 7'1" rod up last year in an almost 9' tube and it was perfect. The float plane company we use has no problem tying it to the steps on the pontoons
  11. Thanks! I was actually looking at that one or the Flambeau Bazuka
  12. Hey, everyone! I hope this question works in this section, so if not, please forgive me. Anyway, I'm going back to Alaska this summer fishing and prefer to carry my own rods on the plane with me. Last year I used the rod tube Tackle Warehouse used to send me a rod. The tube worked great until it got crushed on the last flight (rods were ok). I'm in the market for a rod case/tube for the flights. The longest rod I plan on carrying will be a one-piece at a little over 7' long. Do y'all have any suggestions on what rod case/tube will be good? I'd like to keep it under $100. I thought about building one out of PVC pipe, too, but would prefer a case made for it. Thanks
  13. Let's say you looked on Google maps and found a pond where you'll fish from the bank. What combo(s) are you taking, and why? I always carry with me these three combos: Pflueger President spinning reel size 30x, Falcon BuCoo rod 7' m/m, with 20# braid Daiwa Tatula CT 7.3:1, BP Johnny Morris Signature Platinum rod 7'1" mh/f, with 40# braid BP Carbonlite 2.0 baitcast combo 6.8:1 m/f, 10 lb mono
  14. My vote is for either a Daiwa Tatula CT, Basspro Carbonlite 2.0, Lew's Speed Spool, or Shimano SLX XT, in a ratio around 7.xx. Great reels with aluminum frames, good drag, and will last you a long time. Put some 12 pound monofilament or 12 pound fluorocarbon on and have fun!
  15. Nice! Feel free to pass along some creek names lol Thanks!
  16. 3 Combos: 1 Spinning combo 2 Casting combos: MH/F and a M/F
  17. I sold my truck that I carried my kayak with and am stuck bank fishing until we can get a kayak rack for my wife's SUV. Any good bank fishing spots around the Chattanooga area?
  18. A few pictures from this year: <a href="https://ibb.co/80bGP9n"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/80bGP9n/IMG-3020.jpg" alt="IMG-3020" border="0"></a> <a href="https://ibb.co/mF0SJPV"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/mF0SJPV/IMG-3005.jpg" alt="IMG-3005" border="0"></a> <a href="https://ibb.co/rHj8k2k"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/rHj8k2k/IMG-2978.jpg" alt="IMG-2978" border="0"></a> <a href="https://ibb.co/LYWqSV6"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/LYWqSV6/IMG-2995.jpg" alt="IMG-2995" border="0"></a> Edit: Well, idk how to post pictures here, I guess lol.
  19. @Darth-Baiter, really depends what we want to catch. My dad loves going in late July and pretty much anytime in August because there's so many fish in the river that you can catch anything, and every time we've gone in late-July/August I've routinely caught all five species of salmon and a bunch of species of trout, plus the pike I mentioned. I like June for kings, as long as I can bank fish or wade out for them, but the last few years we've spent more time in boats than on the bank, so I'm not as much of a fan anymore lol. The river changes year to year, so incredible holes might be impassible or unfishable the next year; that makes it fun and frustrating ?
  20. We've been going to the same fishing lodge now for 20+ years. HIGHLY recommend Lake Creek Lodge. It's less than an hour float plane ride out of Anchorage, and it's truly the only lodge around that area where you can walk from the cabin to the water and fish. Cabins are comfortable, food is great, and people who work and stay there are even better! We literally fished Wicked Lures off the dock and shore in front of the main lodge for 60-70% of our trip because the fish were cruising through there so consistently; didn't make sense to leave fish to go and find fish! You can also take a short 10-15 minute ride up river in an outboard and fish for pike on a world class lake up there for pike, the Bulchitna Lake.
