  1. I thought Roboworms were just a bunch of hype, until I tried them last year. What a versatile worm that can be fished a bunch of different ways. Also the color selection is mind boggling! My favorite (so far) has been Bold Bluegill. I fish on river systems for smallmouth, largemouth, and walleye. I have the following Roboworm products: 4 1/2" Ned Worm 4 1/2" Fat Worms 4 1/2" Regular Worms 6" Fat Worms 6" Regular Worms 4 1/2" Curly Tail 4" Alive Shad 4" Sculpin I only got to fish these for a short time last fall before the water starting freezing over. I want to do a fair amount of drop shot fishing and have a few hook questions. My river system has a snag infested bottom full of stumps and lumber. I also fish a lot around deep weed edges. River depth is a max of about 13'. I just got some Owner Cover Shot hooks in sizes 1, 2, 1/0, 2/0. What size hook do I use for the 4 1/2" and 6" fat and regular worms with these rigged weedless? I also have Owner Offsett Worm Hooks. Could I use these? I am not a fan of EWG hooks overall. I personally feel an offset worm hook has a better hookup ration than an EWG.

  3. Thanks Glenn, never thought about checking on city license or permit. We only have one stop light in our town so I doubt they have any complicated permitting! I have saved all receipts and have accounting software to use. I have simple accounting software that is for small businesses and is easy to use- and cheap. I just want make sure I stay legit and legal. I know someone who got nailed for not reporting federal excise tax. He is still in business but almost lost it all.
  4. I tie a ton of bucktail. You have been given some good advice. Not all bucktail is the same. Some have hair that is stiff and straight as an arrow and some have nice soft crinkly hair. Soft crinkly hair ties much better. On any bucktail, the hair on the lower end of the tail is stiffer and hollow. When you go to tie it tight, it will flare because tight wraps will crush the hair. Try using the hair from half way up the tail to the tip of the tail, you will see a lot less flaring. As mentioned above, thread pressure is key to helping tame the hair. I like to tie my collar shorter on stiff hair and then use looser wraps over the back side of the collar and hair to keep the hair down but not cinch it tight. Follow the wraps up with a coat of head cement such as Hard as Nails or UV glue. The best hair I have seen, or at least consistently good, is from Wapsi bucktails. Wapsi consistently has nice soft crinkly hair. The problem with them though, is their color consistency. They can be all over the chart on color quality control. Hareline bucktails can be hit and miss as far as stiff hair goes. If you can pick a Hareline tail in person, you can get some really good ones. One thing good about Hareline, their coloring has always been perfect. Next up for bucktails is Cascade Crest. I have bought a few and they have been really good. I just ordered some from them and asked them to hand select the tails for me so I get soft crinkly tails with hair at least 3" long. We will see how that goes! Long story short- wherever you order from, tell them what kind of hair you want on the bucktail and ask them to select them for you. Bears Den Fly Fishing is really good at that.
  5. I have been tying flies for spinning rod fishing and have had a lot of success. Now I have people and sport shops wanting to buy them. I have one shop that wants an initial order of 100 and another shop having me make a prototype they want 100+ of. I will eventually have a website dedicated to flies for spinning rods. Now the legal side of this all! I live in Wisconsin and have a state sellers permit and tax ID. I also have my company name filed with the state under what they call "doing business as". I am filed as a sole proprietorship. On the federal side of the government I have an EIN and have also registered for excise tax with form 637. I know I will have to file a form 720 quarterly. I am going to open a separate bank account for this business to keep things separate from personal finances. My question is, on the legal side with excise taxes or anything taxes, is there anything else I have to do? Before asking this question I have spent days mucking thru useless and useful information on the web. I have tried to contact the IRS 4 times now to ask questions and been put on hold for over two hours before being disconnected. Today I was on hold for over 3 hours! This is why I am here asking. If there is anything I am missing here, please help and chime in!
