boating tips for beginner
Practice , Practice, Practice. Do every thing till it becomes second nature. Make yourself a check list to begin with....Add trim motor after loading. Seen alot of scags torn up on a ramp.. One tip for after you have left your plug out. Drive really really fast. It will help suck the water out of the hull. Bass boats today won't sink that easy, but they are hard to load when they are full of water.

"Pet bass"?
We had a 6lb, 2 - 4lb and a 2 lb in a 250 gallon ...keep it clean and treated and keep them fed..They will live for a while. These lived for 3 years before we released them back into a pond.. You will learn alot about them by watching every day!!

Jack Plates-HOt Foots
A hydraulic jack plate will also enable you to take off and run in shallower water..Just keep an I eye on your engine temp and water pressure, because you can get the motor to high, which will bring down the water pressure and make the engine temp. go up.. Make sure your hot horn works! A Hotfoot and Trim switch at the wheel, will give you more boat control. Especially in rough water.

JT.." Never Ending Fued"
LunkerGuy, you should have gone to the tournament director. If was BASS, which I take that it was, that has happened before. Sliding Dividers suck. Anyway, when the fish got mixed, the non-boater got to weigh the biggest sack. Thats another reason to have culling floats. Just in case you have to ride in a Champion or a Procraft or any other boat that has the divider crap!!

JT.." Never Ending Fued"
Good Article J.T.!! I never take money from my Co-Angler, but, it is nice for them to offer. I fished the Opens from the back deck for a year. When an idiot cost me winning a boat once, I swore I would never do it again.

prop choosing problems
If you go to your local dealer, they will usually loan you different props to try out. you may go through 10 props before you find one that suits your rig....When you find it buy it. Don't just buy one and not test it first.

Just one change...
There is no substitute for time on the water. I have one tip that may help some of you wanting to learn or get better with a certain technique. for example; Jig fishing, take a box of jigs a flipp'n stick and leave everything else at the house. don't take any other rods with you. If they are not in the boat you will not be tempted in to giving up. Just a thought!!

incorrect depth on sonar
If the transducer is shooting through the hull it could just be a problem with the way it was installed. When you silicone or epoxy the transducer to the hull, make sure the silicone or epoxy is evenly distributed. if there is a gap it could cause it to act up. First thing you should try is hooking another depth finder to it. that will tell if its the unit or the transducer that has a problem..

incorrect depth on sonar
Is the transducer in the hull or on the trolling motor?

Pulling 5th wheel and bass boat at same time
Alot of my buddies fishing the tour events have gone to slide-in campers because they were getting pulled over alot. Especially in Florida! Some even had to drop their boat and take the 5th wheel to the state line and then turn around and go back and pick up the boats... The Florida Hwy Patrol would not let them continue with both. Just thought I would share the info!

How long is the Spawn Cycle?
Day light and water temprature trigger the spawn. They will move in and out in waves. The spawn can last from several months in south Florida to just weeks in the northern states. Alot of Bass will actually spawn more than once. Of course they do not lay as many eggs or have a very good survival rate the second and third time around. Water level changes also play a role in the spawn. I know this from years of working for one of the largest sportfish hatchery's in the country and 25 years of bass fishing.

A question for the ages
Don't count on catching any fish that you caught in practice. Chances are they will not bite again. Best thing to do, is not stick fish in practice. You can tell the size of the fish by the way they bite.."usually"! However, you can lift the fish to the surface to get a look at them without setting the hook in them on a jig or soft plastics. But. it takes practice. I keep a box of pre-fishing baits. Spinnerbaits and Jigs with just enough hook to hold a trailer, the rest (hook) being cut off. Crankbaits have the hooks bent in to the shank. If you cut the hooks off the crankbait it will not run the same. Not setting the hook on a fish is the hardest thing to do. But, you will be glad you did come tournament time! Hope that helps you!!
