  1. Kent Brown did a really nice memorial to Dee on his radio show last Saturday with Ish Monroe, Gary Klien, and Hank Parker.... it was a really good listen..... can go to the link and listen to the show from 7/23/22. I think a lot of people don't realize the influence Dee had on our sport. http://www.ultimatebassradio.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9&Itemid=108
  2. I like my Petzl lights that I also use for deer/duck hunting.... they run on 3 AAA's and have the red lens which helps with night vision. Mine are probably 10+ years old so not a ton of candle power like the newer ones..... I think at the time they were 40-50 bucks but well worth it to me.
  3. 25-40 ft deep.... I have tested it in my pool.... the blade may wobble a little but doesn't vibrate.... I've been using it with a Revo winch 5:1 reel..... it will start lifting as soon as it starts going fast enough to vibrate .... this is with the big 1.25oz jackhammer on 12lb flouro.
  4. I'm looking for ways to slow down a chatter bait without stopping the vibration? I want to get the vibration but still be able to keep it on the bottom.... I've experimented with 1.25 oz jackhammers with a few different trailers but still can't get it to vibrate and bounce along the bottom like I want..... I know I can yo-yo it and other retrieves but trying to get where I can just slow roll it where it's still bouncing off the bottom AND vibrating. Thx.
  5. No point, just conversation. I don't care how anyone spends their money but just wondering if they will ever put a limit on it like they do with engine HP?
  6. I'm new here so this may be a dead horse already, but where does it end with bass boat electronics? I'm in my 40's , I can afford what I want but feel bad for the kids getting started.... it's great that college scholarships are becoming more common, high school teams etc, but what the hell? You can't deny that at least on deeper fisheries you are at a disadvantage when you don't have some type of live scope electronics? Some will disagree but I've seen this crap in racing motor sports for years.... I know we're way past flashers and paper maps but it just seems like we took a HUGE leap these last few years in the electronics area of fishing. Guys with 20-30k in electronics on a 100k boat. Crazy.... I'll get off my soap box now lol.
  7. I fish 99% of the time with my 11 year old son.... the rest of the time we wife and daughter will go.... My son is even my team partner for tournaments. like someone said above.... the majority of so-so "friends" flake. I will usually invite them just to say I did and then give them crap forever because they flaked..... I don't really want to fish with anyone else anyways.... if I wanted to hang out with a bunch of dorks I would golf.
  8. Yamamoto pyscho dad ?
  9. I don't think I will ever give up my Yamamoto dt grubs but to be specific... I'm using these on football jigs in super clear water.... zero vegetation, Volkswagen sized rocks, and 30-50 foot deep. The bass really has time to study the bait. I can see fishing shallow heavy vegetation where it's more of a reaction bite and the fish don't get as good of a look at it where it might not make as much of a difference but I think in my specific waters it's a bonus over plastic trailers.
  10. Because everyone else isn't .... there are a ton of fish that have never seen it before. Jmo.
  11. Do you rig them fat side up or down? Talking about the uncle josh #11 on a jig…… Does it matter? I ran a test and couldn't tell a difference but the fishing was HOT.... they were hittin everything we threw at em. Thx.
  12. I used to feel the same way but got used to them and now I prefer them.
  13. My doctor told me for years that they didn't make transition lenses in polarized so I always have had an extra set of sunglasses made just for fishing.... always hated early mornings or overcast days etc because it was not bright enough to wear the sunglasses ..... I wear my transitions the rest of the time and prefer them but now I see they started offering transitions that are polarized....I'm excited, time to make an eye appointment. And... mine are digital progressives.... they are nice once you get used to them.... just like getting a newer stronger prescription....have to commit.
  14. I've had success at both but in the summer it seems like in the morning, as the day goes on the fishing gets worse.... in the evening, it just keeps getting better.... ZERO proof to back this up lol.
  15. When we were kids we would launch our float tubes there and float down to Sante Fe bridge.... could catch literally 50-60 small bass in the summer.... never much bigger then 12-13" but we would use trout rods with 6-8lb mono and throw 4" Texas rig worms and tiny baby brush hawgs with an 1/8 or 1/16oz weight.... just flip it into every down tree and whatever else looks fishy.... it was a ton of fun.... used to do it every weekend with my buddies.... depending on how much water they are dumping out of Pedro it could be a 4 hour trip or an 8 hour trip. Good times..... as far as bank fishing at fox grove itself.... never interested me....too many vagrants and troublemakers..... like someone else said prepare to get your truck broke into.... we had it happen once....after that we always had someone drop us off and pick us up.
  16. Not sure any of the rods mentioned will work well for the heavier 3/4 and 1 1/4oz versions of the jackhammer.... I'm fishing them now on a heavy jig rod with 15lb flouro.... super deep reservoir 300+ feet deep.... I'm trying to slow roll these 40-60' deep bouncing on the rocks.... no vegetation to be found.
  17. What got me headed down this road was a video by Brett Hite but he really didn't explain exactly why he preferred the glass rod... I can see having a little more tip over your standard jig rod and the "moving bait" reference made above seems realistic but I still have a hard time visualizing it..... it probably doesn't help since the lakes I primarily fish are deep rocky reservoirs with no vegetation . I really haven't spent much time at all with the bait but was planning on trying the heavier baits slowly rolled on the bottom just like you would slow roll a heavy spinner bait . Thanks
  18. I am way late to the chatter bait game..... I have a question. Why do I see over and over guys recommending moderate and glass rods for these? It's a jig head with a blade in front? I guess I don't see the difference between this and a standard jig head.... maybe the way they are fished through grass, etc? Just wondering, thanks.
