  1. this happened last night...shad were gettin busted on top....my buddy threw a DT4 and caught a bunch of them...i stuck to my jig and caught more and bigger fish Cliff
  2. i was also in the 4ID when this happened, and at Ft. hood...my enlistment ended the following febuary.....not long after that, the 4ID deployed.....my brigade, the "raider brigade" were the guys who pulled saddam out of his little hole...my old roomate got shot in his ruck sack...he was not injured...others in his unit were injured or killed...i wont share details either one of the sergeants in my unit lost his mother, father and sister, all in one day, i cant even imagine....he was also our flag football coach...we didnt really know what to do for him...we all pitched in and got him a jersey that said "coach" on the back..he got very emotional when we gave it to him i lived about 7 miles off post...for the remaining time i was enlisted, it took me at least an hour to get to work every morning....in the very first few weeks following 9/11....it took over 3 hours to get there...they stopped and searched every car...it was crazy...but i didnt complain, like some others did one thing that stands out in my memory...is when mr. bush went to ground zero in the following days..and all the people and firemen were digging for survivors and stuff....he was making his speech to them and one guy said "we cant hear you" bush replied something to the effect of "we can hear you, and whoever did this will hear us all soon" Cliff
  3. yeah i really pleased with entire outing...and lookingat this knife some more and the website for it..it is really a nice knife...it actually retails for $199...that $118 was the sale price Cliff
  4. we had a great night tonight, and i got some good practice in with jigs....my buddy caught about 10 bass on a rapala DT4 and i caught 14 on a booyah boo bug with a *** beaver craw trailer...plus i got one on an *** *...all bass were around 1-1.5 lbs with a few being 2-2.5...i didnt take any pics cuz golf cart was a good ways away with camera in it....what fun fishing with a jig!! i learned alot tonight about detecting bites and such...was a blast....and to top it off, i found a knife on the ground that looked as though it had sat under water for months while the course was flooded....brought it home, cleaned it up...looked it up on the internet and it retails for $118!!! now i just need to find my sharpener...anyway was a good trip and another bait with confidence was gained!! Cliff
  5. i was on my way to Ft. hood for a normal days work....i forgot to shave and had some spare time, so i turned around and went home and my wife was on the phone with my mom....she had said that a bomb went off in NY....so i went to work and no one was in the office....i went around to the back and there was everyone around the TV...just as i looked at the TV the second plane hit....i knew right then i was in for a long day....i think we were locked down to post until midnight....sad day for sure...i also remember this day cuz my gramps died this day last year Cliff
  6. avid told me this while helping learn t-rigs....i have applied it to all my fishing "dont get into a feeling contest with the fish, you will lose every time"
  7. here is a pic of it, not very good pic, but a pic...not only did i get a good deal...they sold it to me before they ran it through their inspection for trade ins...so i got 4 new tires, new pads and rotors all around, new battery and wipers, not extra cost!!
  8. i bought a new rapala 15lb digital scale the other day from academy...i think it was 13 bucks..anyway i put a new battery in it and hung a 2lb dumbell from it...it tells me it weighs 2 ounces....is there something i need to do to calibrate it? there was no instructions in the package or anything....it has the chain and hook and a grey button on the top...seems to me the gey button resets the scale back to zero when pressed....havent caught a fish to weigh yet but i figured the thing would at least be close to 2lbs with the dumbell on it...any help is much appreciated thanks Cliff
  9. i saw a guy on a motorcycle once...on the back of his shirt it said " if you can read this, the bitxh fell off!"

  12. well i bought a truck today..not new but new to me....got a good deal on a dodge dakota, 2004...i pick it up on monday afternoon...i am pretty happy about it, but adding the monthly payment will upset the bait monkey terribly...but i need this more than i do new rods, reels, baits, etc etc...now that we have two vehicles i can start looking for a better job...kinda funny, my current boss hooked my up with his friedn who cut me a deal on the truck, now i will be telling i quit..lol...oh well gotta do what i gotta do....plus, now i have something to haul a small boat in...hopefully by next year some time...anyway i will post up some pics when i get it home Cliff
  13. dont the other dudes have their own tools? or is that not a requirement? if it isnt required to have your own tool set there, i would take mine home and use the teachers.....your problem will be solved and you will save wear and tear on your tools untill you get to the point where it IS required to have your own set Cliff
  14. thanks guys, i guess i will just have to choose the one that feels best in my hands when the time comes to buy
  15. just looked it up, the okuma reel i was checking out was the inspira
  16. checked out some rods at academy tonight....i looked at the allstar classic, the falcon original, castaway, and an american rodsmiths rod...all four were in the $50 range....i have heard plenty about allstar and falcon, but i have never heard of the other two brands....i picked up several rods in each brand and i think i like the american rodsmiths rod the best...anyone have any info on castaway or american rodsmiths...it would be much appreciated the allstar, falcon and american rodsmiths all have fuji guides(i think), not sure about the castaway..anyway let me know what ya think about these rods Cliff
  17. well i went to academy to get a couple things tonight...while i was there i had to check out the reels, i was hoping to see an AG C3 spinning, but they dont carry them....but i did put my hands on a symetre(sp)....it was $74...i have to admit, that is a nice reel...but....he then introduced me to another reel i have never used....i dont know which model it was but it was an okuma....it was $78.....if i had to choose, i would go with the okuma....that is a nice reel, it felt great, very smooth....anyway, if i decide to make the switch to another brand besides AG, it just might be okuma....anyone have anything to say about those? Cliff
  18. thanks guys, i appreciate it, like i said i am not buying anything soon, just trying to get some info, i plan to upgrade next spring...especially my rods, but i got them picked out i think...so all i have left is a spinning reel, appreciate all the info Cliff

got back late last night from my trip to NY...it was great....i got to see ALL the family including my new neice...she is 2.5 months old....all my aunt, uncles and cousins showed up at the family gathering....we got a new roof on my dads house...and my mom hooked it up in the kitchen all week long....it was just great....even though we had such a great visit, i had to say goodbuy to my dog....he is a liver spotted dalmation and is 14 years old, he is not in good shape, the doc says this winter will be hard for him....it was probebly the last time i will see him i will miss him, his name is blibo
  20. not too long ago i had the same problem...and with the help of avid i started catching fish in a t-rig....i think the most important thing he told me was this....dont get into a "feeling" contest with the fish, you will lose everytime...watch you line!!!! if it jumps or twitches..set that hook...practice and you will get the hang of it, i did Cliff
  21. yeah i kinda started that muddy...i am 99% sure i will go with a AG again, but i figured i would hear what everyone had to say to convince me to try a shimano....i have owned 3 cardinals and 3 ambassaduers...they have all been good to me, and will be even better now that i have a reel mech to take them to....anyway if anyone does have info on this reel, i would appreciate the feedback' thanks Cliff
  22. well i just dont know...first off i wont be buying anything anytime soon, hopefully by next spring.....i was about to consider the shimano untill basspaddler came along and encouraged my about AG...guess i will just have to wait till the time is right and make the decision thanks for the input, keep it coming Cliff
  23. ok well being an AG fan for years now...i guess i would need some convincing to switch over....can you help me out there rw? ;D Cliff
  24. ny opinions on this reel would be much appreciated http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0036112120606a&navCount=13&podId=0036112&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&catalogCode=IH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20333&hasJS=true
  25. is it typical on a fiberglass rod for the blank to be so big around where it meets into the forgrip? this one is really big, as big around as a dime i would say, maybe a tad bigger...but it is still pretty light and medium power....by far the "fattest" rod i have owned Cliff
