I'm casting on 1 with everything and have not had that problem. I've had all my Diawa's and Shimano's blow up in the beginning of a cast when I lower the settings to get more distance.

Ultimate 7'6 spinning rod: NRX+ 902 vs Daiwa Steez AGS 7'6 MML "the one"
To cast at least as far and maybe be more sensitive.

Ultimate 7'6 spinning rod: NRX+ 902 vs Daiwa Steez AGS 7'6 MML "the one"
Obviously I'm really late to this thread. I don't own a steez or NRX but I bought a p5 flyssa on the recommendation of the YouTuber "Bassniper". I don't like it at all.I felt like I wasted my money. I have a St. Croix Legend Elite and an Ark Essence 7'6" MLXF. All around they cast better and further. Plus the Ark is only $179

The junkie needed a fix and so I bought the X model. In a word...amazing. True, it does not cast quite as far as my Metanium DC but I have yet to have a real backlash with it in any casting condition. I have been stuck at home due to recent surgery and have only been casting in my driveway. It's been windy as hell lately which has not created any backlashes. Twice I made a real crappy cast into the tree on the side of the driveway and no backlash. All my other reels would have exploded. The only time it attempted to backlash was throwing a 1/3 oz jerk bait into a breeze on level 1. It picked out easily. As far as casting distance, using a 10 gram casting weight, I can get 150+ feet with the Metanium using a single handed side arm cast. With the X, I only get 120 feet. Using a 2 handed cast it goes 145 feet. The heavier the lure the further it goes. The guy in the video was tossing close to 3/4 oz. My ultimate test is a 4" Texas rigged weightless senko which is 1/4 oz. The X gets 75 ft with absolutely no backlash. The Metanium gets 90 but it will backlash occasionally. All this on a medium extra fast Cashion Z2 and the X set on 1. I'm anxious to try skipping which I've avoided due to backlash anxiety in the past. If you are looking for ultimate distance this isn't it. If you're looking for a carefree day casting a wide variety of lures at typical distances even when it's windy, this is it. For someone just starting in baitcasting, it's a great choice. I won't be replacing my other reels with this but it has a permanent place on my boat.

If you watch the entire video, in the second half, he's throwing into the wind. Home plate to 1st base is 90' but he's casting way beyond that without a hint of back lash. That's more than enough in the typical fishing situation. I have Diawa Tatulas, Zillions, Coastals and recently the Shimano Metanium DC, Scorpion DC and SLX DC XT. I've been able to blow them all up when I get too cocky and lower the setting to get more distance. The distance he got on on level 10 into the wind with no back lash triggered my inner tackle junky to give it a try. I'm waiting for the YouTuber "The Reel Test" to do his casting impressions which might be soon. He's already did a paper review of it.

If you are aware of the Japanese websites to begin with, yes.I bought mine for $324 from Japan Lure Shop. But if you're not, it's $540 from Tackle Warehouse. Shimano Metanium DC A Casting Reels $539.99 14 Shimano's lightest DC reel to hit the market, Shimano Metanium DC A Casting Reels offer elite performance with a CoreSolid magnesium frame, I-DC5 Digital Braking System, and MGL Spool III technology for unmatched precision and durability.

The original Shimano Curado and SLX DC'c have only 4 settings but the SLX DC XT, Scorpion DC and Metanium DC technically have 15 settings. They have 5 on the external dial and 3 on the inside (P,N,F). The Metanium has all the settings on the outside which is handy but double the price of the Voltiq.

This suddenly hit the market. Numerous pro's are hawking it on YouTube. Again it sounds too good to be true. Anyone try it yet? This guy gave it an unbiased casting test.

I have enough Shimano's and Diawa's plus I just bought some DC reels, I don't need another. I just thought this was another sales pitch and was curious. I could be wrong but somehow I think the casting distance is compromised since you can't adjust the braking mechanism. I commented on one of his videos as to how far it can cast a 1/2 oz lure . Yes there many variables effecting distance but his answer avoided any average number and he stated... "With our reels, you stop thinking about distance — when the lure flies and the spool settles at splashdown without you stepping in, you’re already thinking about where the next cast should land" I do think about distance. None of his videos show distance. If you've ever watched "The Reel Test" on YouTube, he tests all brands of reels and always does a distance comparison. Reply

If two is one and one is none, than how many is three?- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I usually fish with more finesse sized baits like neds along with 2.8 and 3.3 in. keitechs. My new home lake has gizzard shad and big stripers along with smallies and largemouth. I thought I'd give these a try. I hadn't used jerkbaits before but just bought a similar stash. For the price they'd better work!- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

After almost 4 months FedEx finally caught up with me and I had to pay $32/reel tariff- Berkley Finisher and Krej
Thanks to all- Berkley Finisher and Krej
Has anyone had success with these? I ask because at the moment they are deeply discounted on Tackle Warehouse from $16.99 to $5.99 for the Krej and $11.99 to $4.99 for the Finisher. No other bait is that deeply discounted which makes me think these suck and they are trying to unload them. I haven't tried any yet.- Thinking of giving up on baitcasters
I also have been using spinning reels for 60 years but dabbled with baitcasters. I never could trust them. I would be casting well and suddenly it blows up. Screw 'em. But I just got a Shimano SLX DC XT (only from Japan) which is the bomb. I'm throwing 4' unweighted senkos to 1/2 oz lures without having a backlash. It's great in the wind also. Very impressive- shimano 22 slx dc xt
My mistake. That video was 7 months ago. I didn't realize it changed on Aug. 29. I'd buy from Digitaka to minimize any hassles. I still haven't heard from FedEx about more $$$ with my Japan Lure Shop purchase.- The new SLX DC XT - a Curado/Scorpion DC killer?
I came across this thread because I just bought a SLX DC XT and Scorpion DC after watching "The Reel Test" on Youtube. These are my 1st DC reels. I bought the SLX to avoid backlashing when throwing wind resistant plugs like Rapala DT's. I am blown away with the SLX. From throwing 4" unweighted senkos to 1/2 oz plugs I've not had a backlash. The Scorpion is a little tricker. In The Reel Test video he mentions that with the SLX you can take the side adjustment down to 1 but the Scorpion is best left at 2. I've found at 1, I was experiencing some backlashes. My Zillion and other reels might be collecting some dust.- shimano 22 slx dc xt
This video is long and a horror story but at 20:00 he says DHL told him if it's a single item under $800 there is no tariff.- shimano 22 slx dc xt
