  1. now this guy know what hes talking about. just last week i closed the door on my car and my shimano rod was there and the cheap cumara thing broke and crushed into two pieces : ;D Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't just about any rod get damaged if a car door closed on it?
  2. I was having this exact decision in Bass Pro yesterday, had both of these in my hands just trying to pick the one to get. I ended up purchasing the Crucial. It just felt better to me I guess. I think it's much easier when you can hold the rods and see them rather than buying online. Of course I have only had the Crucial for a day now, but I really love it so far. I don't think you can go wrong with either rod though. I have heard great things about them both. Maybe someone who owns them both can help you out more.
  3. I am both a "Shimano Reel Guy" and a "Shimano Rod Guy"
  4. Well, thank you everyone for your input. I have looked at all the rods you have mentioned and I think I am going to get an Avid Medium power, fast action spinning rod. I have heard many great things about these rods. Only thing left is the length. probably over 50% of my fishing is done with senkos, but would still like this to be a good all-around rod. would 7' or 6'6 be a better choice? thank you!
  5. Well, I have heard good things about all those rods. Especially the avid series. I called BPS and they said I may need a receipt to get a new rod. But I bought it online and it is not available anymore. So maybe they can do it without a receipt. We'll see. Does anyone have any input on the shimano rods? I was looking at the compre but the crucial looked nice too- except the lure specific rods confused me because i wanted a general purpose rod. Also, for general purpose, would M or MH power and fast or extra fast action be better? Thanks again.
  6. I was fishing yesterday with my Bass Pro Extreme 6'6" M spinning rod and after a few casts my rod tip snapped off. It was about four inches that snapped off. Not sure why this happened but anyway this has now gotten me to look for a new rod. I was looking at the Shimano rods and the St. Croix rods and a few others but its hard for me to compare them because some say IM8 some say 60 million modulus and I'm not sure how to compare them. The reel I have is a Stradic 2500, one of the newer ones. I would like to spend under $180-200 and I was just having trouble picking out a rod. The rod would be spinning and a rod to use for general purpose. Also, would a fast or x-fast action be better? I was confused on that too. The rod I was looking at most was the Compre but I'm not sure how good of a rod that is. Thank you for your help.

  8. It doesnt have a name that I know of. It's by a church and way towards the back of a field. By the way, I wouldnt give up my favorite fishing spot! ;D
  9. Thanks guys! We aren't going to use that lure anymore. Also we went back an hour later and we didn't see it floating so it should be ok.
  10. I'm not sure if it was in the gills. It was in the bottom right side of the mouth... to the right of the tongue. So I dont know if the gills extend down there or not. Thanks
  11. My Dad and I were fishing at a small lake (only 2-3 acres) but surprisingly there are many 3lb and up bass (pretty big for ohio). My Dad caught one on a weedless frog, but it was hooked in the bottom of the mouth. We got the hook out quickly, and it swam away fine but it was bleeding pretty much. I was wondering if this fish will be okay because it is rare to catch a fish that size up here and I would hate to see it dead. thanks.
  12. Thats a nice combo but the closest s. authority is over an hour away, Walmart and Dicks are 10 min...
  13. title says it... I want to get a cheap UL combo for bass and panfish. Is the $35 combo AbuGarcia Cardinal 100 w/ rod at walmart any good? Whats the best for $50? thanks!
  14. My dads tackle box was in the garage for a couple years and when we opened it everything had melted (the plastic). So I wouldnt keep it in extreme heat...
  15. Okay I probably will get 2500 series. Also is the Avid or Loomis GL2 Better? Loomis is cheaper...
  16. I currently have a 6'6" BPS extreme M action with a pflueger president 6740X. I would like to get another rod and reel so I have 2 setups I can bring with me. For the reel I will be getting the new stradic when it comes out, probably 3000 size. For the rod I wanted to spend about $100 so I was looking at the St Croix Premeire. Is this the best rod for my price point? Also I was looking at the Avids, whats the point of having a 6' rod, 6'3", 6'6", 6'8" and 7'. You usually only see 6' 6'6" and 7'. Thanks!
  17. Have 2 questions, I am going to buy the stradic. 1. Will the "new" stradic be the same price as the old? 2. Will BPS have the "new" stradic in their stradic/extreme combo?
  18. Steelhead is a type of fish, I think in the Salmon family. So this rod may be specific to this type of fish.
  19. How does the leader protect the rod? Do all braided users use one?
  20. Have you tried going in the late evening, like when the sun goes down? I have learned that this is the best time for ctching bass. Good luck!
  21. Do you guys like sufix or power pro better? Also what is this about line cutting into the reel?
  22. Ten pound mono is the same diameter as 30lb braid. So... a rod that says 8-14lb shouldt have 30lb braid even though it has the same or less diameter?
  23. Okay so I would like to switch to braid from mono, mainly because it sounds like it is stronger and casts just as smooth as mono. I have 10lb line right now and for the same diameter in braid I can have 30lb. I would like to carp fish and I would like to have stronger line on my reel. I have a 6'6" BPS extreme M action and a pflueger president 6740. I would like your opinion on switching to sufix and what I need to know. Thanks!
  24. I will look into the rapala. Also, is the bill dance scale good? Does it have a hook on it like other scales?
