preemptive strike

Is there another way than from the gills to hook the fish? Is it the first gill slit from the body or from the outside?

Baasically I'd rather not have to estimate every time I catch a fish so I wanted a non expensive scale that measured lbs and ounces. And I'd like it to be one that isnt just a metal hook you hang the fish on.

I have a 6'6" extreme spinning medium action rod with 10# trilene XL.

So, what casts the farthest? Shimano brand looks good. Price doesnt matter. I currently have a pflueger president.

What would you buy? include color.

Fish them weightless T-rigged. Also, be sure to use EWG 4/0 or larger. I tried using 3/0 a few weeks ago and I lost 4/5 fish- the hook couldnt penetrate through the lure body far enough. You pretty much fish them like a senko. This is a great lure!

Today I was fishing with a fat ika and I got 5 fish, but four of them came off before I reeled them halfway in. When I take the lure out of the water, the hook is through the body about 1/2 inch. So this makes me think that with a larger hook, it could go through the lure more and I wouldnt have missed those fish. I am currently using gamakatsu 3/0 ewg, but maybe I should use a 4/0 or 5/0? Thanks!

I am getting a BPS extreme and I live in Ohio. I can catch up to 6# LMB. What are the advantages of having a 7' rod over a 6'6" rod? A Medium action or medium heavy? A 1 piece or 2 piece? I have a spinning president 6740 reel Thanks

I think that a great all around reel is the Flueger President. This is the smoothest reel I have ever used (10 bearings!). I can cast so much farther now. I highly reccomend it. It is $60, but at Bass Pro, you can get the reel and a bass extreme rod for $100, which is a good deal considering the rod is $60 by itself. Hope this helps.

Hi! I have been fishing for a year (only 14). My first rod and reel was an ugly stik 6' and a Shakespere reel that came with it. It was only $30 at Walmart. It got kind of worn out and it doesnt reel smoothly and it doesnt have instant anti reverse (which I like). So today I decided to get a new reel from Dick's. I bought a Pflueger President 6740X. It seems really like a great reel. I put Trilene 10' line on it and it is on the 6' ugly stik. Is this a good setup? I live in ohio so not like I'm catching any huge fish. I am mostly fishing channel cats and bass. Thanks!
