Just bought a new reel.....

Featured Replies

Hi! I have been fishing for a year (only 14). My first rod and reel was an ugly stik 6' and a Shakespere reel that came with it. It was only $30 at Walmart. It got kind of worn out and it doesnt reel smoothly and it doesnt have instant anti reverse (which I like).

So today I decided to get a new reel from Dick's. I bought a Pflueger President 6740X. It seems really like a great reel. I put Trilene 10' line on it and it is on the 6' ugly stik.  Is this a good setup? I live in ohio so not like I'm catching any huge fish. I am mostly fishing channel cats and bass. Thanks!

Hello, I have several Pflueger products and I am very pleased with all of them. The Ugly-Stick is a good starting rod but you may soon out grow it. After you decide what type of baits you like to fish the most you may want to invest in a rod that tailors to that type of bait or baits. Dicks's carries a good line of St. Croix rods ( IMO the best rods for the money). What you have now is still a nice combo. Good Luck and hope you can catch some big ones.
