  1. My 2 sons and four grandsons were here for dinner. That's all I need. (I would have been nice if my daughter could have come too, but she's 1450 miles away.)
  2. Sometimes I feel the same way. It seems our club tournaments are always on tough lakes and days. With limited fishing time, I'd rather go to the best lakes. It might be my last year of club fishing too.
  3. Yes, I cover everything except my finger tips too. I'm surprised how the modern fabrics cool you down. And when you come off the water, you don't have any lingering sun burn effects. I use short sleeve shirts and sun sleeves. I like it better than long sleeve shirts. It gives more ventilation under my shoulders.
  4. I too like Keens. I wear them to work as well. (Casual dress workplace.)
  5. Yes, I've experienced the slower service, but their sale prices are pretty good so I don't mind waiting.
  6. I should mention you could join a local bass club as non boater. Either TBF(FLW) or B.A.S.S. Nation affiliated clubs in northern UT.
  7. Mantua, East Canyon, etc. You can walk around some of the marinas on Utah lake (Provo / Amercan Fork) too. Get at least a float tube. You don't have to worry about cottonmouths or gators in the water as you would in Florida. J/k So many places! Keep exploring.
  8. Paycheck transporter. http://www.paycheckbaits.com/the-transporter.html
  9. Although I have a GMC 2WD Sierra king cab with 100000 miles (W/T model), I wish I had 4X4. But I only need it for a couple slippery ramps. I was gun shy about going GM. My 93 suburban transmission went out and the 97 Tahoe transmission went out twice. The transmission problems began at 125000 miles. Then the '97's motor died too. Only reason I went with GMC is I got a brand new 07 in early 08 for $20,000. So far so good. My 89 F150 4x4 was rebuilt at 200000 miles and I sold it a few years later. The current owner has had it 10 more years and it runs good. If money wasn't an option I might go Tundra now.
  10. Right hand retrieve for me because that was the only way my first Amabassduer 5000 came when I bought it new in 1963. I saved all my chores income to get it. I was 10 yrs old.
  11. Magazine newsstand sales are declining. It gets to the point where it's hard to even break even. Print subscriptions are still doing well. Of course tablet and smartphone versions will probably surpass print someday.
  12. I must be living under a rock. I didn't think stuff like this still happens. I thought it went away 30 years ago. Everyplace I've worked for the last 30 years, he would have been put on unpaid leave until rehabbed or, more likely, fired.
  13. I've owned bass boats for 30 some years. When I bought my current boat, I drove nearly every fiberglass bass boat made. And as a tournament angler, I fished out of nearly every boat. But I was looking for some things that helped me narrow it down. I won't go into detail because my needs we're specific. I also figured it would be my last purchase, but the model I would buy now, if I bought another wasn't available 5 years ago. Everyone develops an affinity for a brand and it's the only brand they'll buy. I'm more open minded. But I love my Phoenix.
  14. I want one...someday...
  15. As others have said, I won't run out. I could lighten my boat by 500 lbs by not taking so much, but then I might run out of something. That's not happening.
  16. English is a pretty complicated language, but I agree, if you are living here, you need to learn it. I lived in South America for nearly two years and became very fluent in Spanish. I didn't really use it much when I came back, so my vocabulary dropped, but I can still communicate in it. Once I learned Spanish language rules, I became better at understanding English rules. I majored in English and became a writer/editor. I read recently that we have about 25 dialects. Going to different states is like going to another country. But the SA country where I lived had 80 dialects.
  17. From a biological perspective, I don't think closed seasons make much difference. It doesn't take many successful spawning pairs to maintain a population. IMO. Some biologists in northern states don't agree, I know. Is it based on science or just a remnant of that's the way we always did it? And that may be rooted in the old keep everything you catch mentality. Modern anglers are more likely to practice catch-and-release. I don't see any need for closed seasons.
  18. I hate the stuff too. It's in every lake around me. Then there's the black stuff too. Is it the green slot decaying or something related?
  19. Ditto the clubs. It's a good starting point.
  20. I don't have much dexterity anymore. So, I bought a roll of narrow adhesive tape (like for bandages) and put about a 1" strip over the line on the spool arbor. Line never slips. No knots needed.
  21. I like Paycheck baits popper versions of frogs

I use as much covering as I can all the time. Even in 100 degree temps I'm wearing them. Although I wear long sleeve shirts, I find it cooler to wear short sleeves shirts and sun sleeves. I have several brands of gloves, sleeves, buffs, etc. I don't feel like a cooked lobster when I get off the water.
  23. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. has some small lakes filled with offspring of ShareLunkers. They are highly managed lakes with the same intent—to grow world record bass. I don't know if TX has the climate to make this all work, either on state managed or someone's private lake. But the scientific knowledge gained could be useful for future fish stocking. The ranch in this discussion is South Texas. In May till Oct. the air temp will be more than 100 every day. Will it shorten the life span of these fish so they don't live long enough to reach 22 pounds? Maybe.
  24. I have 100s of crankbaits. My favorites are Strike King 5XDs and 6XDs. Wait for sales and get some in sexy shad, bluegill and chart/blue.
