Navionics Mapping - No Cove Names?
Naming the coves would be invaluable

Kistler Z Bone
I have many ZBones. I’m happy with them all. Are they worth more than a Helium? I think so if the stock models are what you are looking for. I have a few custom models too, which are top notch if you want to spend the money. For example, choosing reel seats, balancing kits, etc.

New personal best
That’s how Falcon bass look. Other than the 13 lb ShareLunker my son caught in December 2012, they are long and thin. But they are lean and mean.

New personal best
I hope not. Ha ha. I hope to catch a Texas ShareLunker (13 lb.) before I put my gear away forever. One of my sons has one, so I need to keep him humble. lol

New personal best
I've been meaning to post this. I was down on Falcon Lake, TX a few weeks ago when I got this 11.38 lb. bass. Caught on 10" worm, half-ounce tungsten weight, 25-pound flouro. line. Fishing in 28 FOW. My new personal best.

Gout is evil
My doctor prescribed allopurinol in 2009 and I haven’t had an attack since. I take it daily. Sure beats 4-5 flair-ups/year.

Interesting Read - Fluoro
My point is that when you use flouro, you can use heavier line.

Is everyone fishing the wrong color jigs?
I’ve seen molting crayfish in an opaque or almost translucent too.

Interesting Read - Fluoro
Here’s is what I dislike about flouro. When I snag a lure that won’t come free, I have to get as close as I can to the snag and then wrap the line around a cleat, hit the trolling motor switch and pull to try to break the line. It’s as strong as an anchor rope. I don’t have knot issues with flouro but I tie knots carefully. Compare the line diameter. Where you use 10# mono, you could probably use 15# flouro. I don’t use flouro any smaller than that. In fact, when I use flouro leaders, I use 20 or 30#. That’s the advantage of flouro. Use heavier test line!

Kistler mag2 or klx
The Mag2 is very sensitive. I don't own any, most of my Kistlers are Hel3 or ZBones, but my friends who have Mag2s swear by them.

Better to be a specialist or a generalist?
IMO this is the key. Versatile generalists end up in the money often, but don't win much. I don't fish big tournaments as I used to, but I either was in the top 3 or near the bottom. One because I have a big fish mentality but mostly because I believe in doing what you do best. There are several times a year when your specialty will take you to the winner circle. I prefer to fish for five big bites over 20 keepers.

Texas still getting rain
I'm 200 miles inland from where Hurricane Harvey made landfall. It's been raining for about 24 hours at my house. It just keeps raining. Surrounding communities are performing water rescues right now as areas that have never flooded are being swamped by all the rain. Peoples homes have 3-4' of water now because the water can't drain fast enough. I bet Houston is even worse, but I haven't seen any updates. I'm keeping an eye out in my neighborhood. I don't dare go to bed just in case. I'm on a higher lot so I'm not worried about my house, but neighbors may need help getting to safety. I'll be happy to take people in if necessary.

New guy from the Gulf Coast
Welcome. when it comes to catching bigger fish, go to the lakes that consistently produce bigger fish. It's that simple. i know that's overly simplistic but when I watched where bigger fish were being caught, I planned trips there. For me it was a 5-hour drive and it took several trips to figure it out. But then my personal bests got better and better. From 7 to 8 to 9 and finally 10+. My son caught a 13+ I live about 5 hours in any direction from some of the best lakes. Falcon, Amistad, Fork, Rayburn and Toledo Bend. I don't always catch big fish on those, but it sure beats the lakes within 2 hours. i know that any cast could produce a 10. Whereas, locally, it would be impossible to catch a 10 (at least now, as the only trophy local lake crashed).

Thoughts and Prayers!
I'm a couple three hours inland from the coast and predictions say a foot or more of rain in our area. We've had two 15" rain events in the last few years and I'm on higher ground, but I may get surrounded and locked in because of the low water crossings. What I don't get is that these events happen with enough frequency that you'd think they would raise the bridges. I don't want anyone to lose life or property, but some lakes are 20 to 40 feet low. We could use the water if it falls in the right places. best of luck to anyone in low lying areas. Be safe.

Senko rod
I have a very similar Kistler rod. LMH is a 3 power. I have it in 7' and 7'6" in ZBones and Helium 3. I have both spinning and casting rods in that power and action. I use 15-pound Invisx on the casting rods and 14-pound Nanofill on the spinning rods. I'll fish those around all kinds of cover and grass without breaking off. I think the action is the same as using "sewing thread" i. e., light line. But you can fish grass and light brush. If I get into real heavy cover, I upsize to a 5-power Kistler and 6- inch Senkos on 20-pound Invisx.

Favorite Color 6XD
Chartreuse/ blue back. At least for largemouth. I don't target smallmouth where I live.
-
Favorite bass crankbait!
I catch more fish on a Strike King 6XD than any other crankbait. Fish it from 10-20 feet deep. shallower than that, I like many different brands of baits.

Lightning while fishing?
Yeah, when your line starts going toward the sky or you get a small shock when you pick up a rod, it's scary.
-
What's your favorite rod, power and action. What do you use it for?
7'6" heavy, moderate fast. With 20-lb flouro I use it to pitch 6" Senkos around the grass and reeds. I have a 7'4" heavy, fast action but it doesn't feel the same for pitching. I used to think fast action was better, but I keep reaching for the moderate fast rod.

Yo-Zuri Knuckle Bait
In one tournament 20 years ago, the only thing I could catch bass on was the Tornado. I ended up in second place. I haven't caught a bass on one since.

Whats with this crazy rods colors ? Neon Green, Orange, White or Yellow ??
I really like the Kistler Rods Zbone unpainted rod blanks. They simply sand the blank. No orange, neon, white, or other clown colors for me. Of course, I'm old so I like simple black. It's like a beautiful woman in a classic black dress.

Tatula SV TW........opinions?
I bought it for skipping docks too. It takes some time, which I'm still working on, to get it working right. I tried it in a tournament day. Put it down after a few minutes because I didn't want to waste time. I hope to get some time with it soon. I just haven't been on the water enough lately.

Cutting the cord/MLF To Go
MLF has been on CBS lately so you're covered. I did the free preview of the MLF website but decided not to get it. I wouldn't use it enough.
