How Big To Get A Mount??
Instead of debating price just go to a good taxidermy like Lake Fork Taxidermy, Pierce brothers for a quote. It's been 20 years since my last mount...avatar is 19.3 lbs by Roberts Trophy Fish mounts, no longer in business. Never caught a smallmouth over 6 lbs, so no mount. FLMB over 15 lbs would be a trophy. Tom

Rubber Skirted Jigs
Siebert gets the nod on this site, good quality reasonable price. Skinny Bear makes a good living rubber series jig. *** jigs by Don Iovino via TW is a premium jig with living rubber skirts. Depends on budget and quality....all the above are good. Color; black & blue is preferred by 90% of the BR members, go online and take a look at what is available. Tom

Wind From The East Fish Bite Least. Why?
The jet stream moves across the country from west to east in a sine wave north to south pattern. Wind out of the west is usually from low pressure of an oncoming storm...falling barometer = good fishing. Wind out of the east is created by high systems generating clearing skies and high wind or raising barometer = poor fishing conditions. Tom

Silicon Or Rubber Skirted Jigs For Cold Water
Rubber may be misleading, it's living rubber that comes in 3 types; round, square and mini round frog hair. The round has the most memory and flares out more than square, the frog hair is the softest very similar to deer hair. All living rubber skirts are good in all types of water temperatures. The draw back with living rubber and real deer hair is color, they are solid. The advantage of real deer hair is texture, it feels real to the bass and they chew it longer than either rubber or silicone. Tom

1/2 Oz Jigs To Large To Fish With?
Don't think weight think about keepin touch with the jig, how fast it falls through the water, depth of water, cover and wind. If the jig crashes down into the muck faster than the bass will strike it...it's too heavy. You can use heavier line, larger trailers to slow the rate of fall. A 3/8 oz may fall faster than a 1/2 oz depending on trailer type and line size. A double tail trailer that moves a lot of water slows down the jigs ROF verses a streamline trailer increases the ROF using the same weight jig. On average 1 second/foot ROF is a good goal under most conditions. Sometimes 1/2 second faster or slower makes a big difference. Tom

Early Spring Pre-Spawn Fishin
My guess is you are more than a month away from any spawning activity on this lake, think pre spawn. I would start at the center main lake point that divides this small lake into 2 arms at the west end. Do you have a boat? 7 1/2 hp max OB on this lake. I like T-rig soft plastics from shore. Lipless crawdad color cranks and shad colored jerk baits, and jigs if fishing from a boat. Good fishing, nice looking lake. If the main lake point doesn't produce ( it should) don't over look the dam if the water is below 55 degrees. Tom

Roboworms
Don't over look the 7" straight tails or Zippers. Tom

I Havent Caught Any Fish. Plz Help
Anderson is a good bass lake. The water should be in the upper 50's to low 60's, pre spawn transition to spawn right now, perfect time to be bass fishing. Where, sheltered bays. Fishing from shore. Use soft plastics worms and creatures Texas rigged or Carolina rigged. Fan cast an area and slowly work along the bottom. Read or watch a video on rigging both the C-and T-rigs. Worms, 7" Roboworm in Aaron's Magic. Creature, baby Brush hog in watermelon red flake. Hook, Owner #5100, 3/0 Line 10 to 12 lb premium mono like P-line CXX. T-rig, 3/16 oz bullet weight black, C-rig 3/8 to 1/2 oz egg sinker, red glass bead. You will be fishing uphill from 15' to 2'. Start at the bay points, then work the shoreline all the way around to the opposite point. Start at the south end of the lake and fish the bay on the Morgan Hill side of this lake. Tom

How Long Should I Wait To Try And Catch That Monster That Got Away
Water in the high 70's!! The spawn is more than likely a month over. Big females don't stay around a bed after they lay eggs. This bass may have been raiding bream nests ( bluegill ) in lieu of spawning. Try a wake bait or T-rig a lizard....at night. Tom

Lures "helicoptering" In The Air?
What causes the line fouling the hooks is the lure tumbling end over end. You need to keep the lure from tumbling by adding slight line pressure during the cast. Takes a little practice. Tom

Topographic Maps
There are only maybe 3 or four lakes i plan on fishing that i would like to have a topo map for. I was planning on maybe printing it out somehow since our unit does not have a built in gps. I couldn't figure out how to use the mapper.acme.com but the navionics one has helped a good bit. Thanks for the help guys! The Navonics Premium paper maps are $20 each, not all lakes are available. If one of the lakes has a lot of topo features and the bass relate to isolated or off shore deep structure or channel bends, topo maps are essential. Try 1 map if available, well worth $20.Tom

The Cardiff 300 series is a bullet proof swimbait reel. You can upgrade the bearings to 5's when you get it serviced. Several big name swimbait anglers out west use this reel. Tom- What Is A Jig?
How could anyone be confused about the definition of a bass jig? Ask 10 bass anglers and get 12 different answers! Tom Do-It bass jig molds offers over a 100 different jig head styles just to keep you confused further.- Jig Color Question
The only time a black jig works where I fish is at night, our crawdads are reddish brown unless they are molting, then they greenish brown. The best way to know what actually works where you live is to catch some crawdads out of the water you fish and look at them in a clear glass jar filled with water. If all you ever fish with is black and blue jigs, you will catch bass on that color, the ??? Is that the best color??? Tom- Crawfish Patterned Crankbaits
Red clay banks and rip rap during low light periods when crawdads are active. Tom- Lets Talk Scroungers!
The long bill tends to be move snag resistant and a little slower wiggle action. As long as you keep the Scrounger moving forward it will go through brush, don't kill your retreive let it sink down into the brush. You can cast a Scrounger and let it sink, then retreive it up and over a brush pile. Tom- How Close Is Too Close?
Public water is public water. When I started bass fishing decades ago the general sportsmanship was to keep about 200' away from other anglers. Tournament bass fishing changed that to about 100' or a standard casting distance away. Today sportsmanship has been lost and space between anglers or boat is whatever each angler can tolerate without arguing....no set rules. If someone is too close let them know politely by talking to them instead of getting ticked off! Tom - Swimbait Reels
