  1. I get no more satisfaction from one over the other. I get equal excitement from either.
  2. I've paid just over $200 for one reel and one rod. The reel was used, the rod new. Most of the reels I have now were bought used for less than $100. All of my rods were bought new, none except the one mentioned earlier was more than $155. I try not to spend more than $200 on either. I don't need anything better than what $150- $200 will buy. Heck, I'm thrilled to have a bunch Daiwa clad Crucials and Avids in my rod locker!
  3. Flick shake
  4. I have the 2500. Daiwa quality. Smooth reel, sweet drag, . Good looking too. Whats not to like? The 2500 size is a bit smaller (and lighter) than my other Daiwa/Cabela's spinning reels of the same size. I like it! Perfect finesse reel for my Slider fishing.
  5. Whatever happened to ***? Huh? What did I miss now?
  6. I use 14 lb Trilene XT. Excellent abrasion resistance and cheap.
  7. I have a couple customs w/pistol grips, 1-5'6" M/F Avid and 1-6' MH/F Premier with a fightin' butt. I use the 6' a LOT, one of my favorites. They are both spiral wrapped with Alconite guides, made by David Green.
  8. Ha ha.....guess what....if you're lucky and the good Lord wills it, you'll make it that far one day yourself!
  9. Excellent jig rod!
  10. Not sure I follow. Are you saying word rated power/action rods vary greatly but those rated in numbers are all more accurate from brand to brand?

Funny this subject shows up now. I have never used one and don't own any but within the last week started to consider giving them a try. I'm gonna get a couple and see what happens.
  12. Thank you. I've seen them but didn't know what they were labeled.
  13. I use 'em as long as I can, then toss 'em on the floor and grab a new one. Once used they are never reused.

Action is always more important After awhile your collection grows to the point that you just buy replacements, additional stock in favorites and the occasional wild hair.
  15. They have been known to have issues. Try finding another head unit you can hook up and see how it works. You can use just about any other newer Lowrance unit and even older X-125/135 or 520c etc. That should tell you if it's the unit or transducer. Probably looking at getting a new unit though. Lowrance no longer supports the 332c as far as I know so unless you can find somebody to repair it, new or good working used is your only option.
  16. What is the TD-S? I'm very surprised to read the Zillion was more problematic. I will no longer buy any casting reel that doesn't have Magforce Z. It is the most simple and effective system I've used by a good margin.
  17. Yup! Whack 'em! Should have launched that 9 incher right over the boat. Setting the hook on jig fish is half the fun of fishin' them.
  18. That's a good point. I heard Denny Brauer mention this while he was fishing Falcon for the Strike King show. But....you can cut this down some by using powder painted lead bullets too. Powder coating is pretty hard itself, as far as paint goes. I use standard black on all of mine for punching. Still, it's a valid point as we all see those teeth marks in our lead weights.
  19. I use 1 oz lead bullets (skirted too) with no problems. It is rare that I need more than that.
  20. What is it that makes the technology "old"? I'm gonna guess one thing you mean is the weight?? I just bought a used 50th Zillion early this spring and have used it some but not a lot so far. I think it's one of those reels that could live on as it is for a long time. Solid performer that's going to take a lot to beat it down.
  21. Tonka is a great fishery but it's a ridiculous maze of regs, selective ethics/rules and rec traffic. I won't fish it anymore unless I have to and am currently not encumbered by any tourney schedules requiring me to. I'd rather put my time into a drive up north and have more fun sans sewage etc.
  22. Maybe you should give that DT6 the starting job instead of being a late pull from the bullpen!
  23. Mine is a Marty Burns custom. Grayish silver w/ dark purple back and silver glitter. Smallies seem to love this one for some reason. Problem is I only have one.
  24. I don't know how many we caught but it was quite a few (maybe 40 or so). 3 of us in the boat opening day. 3-4's a few 3's and a bunch of 14-16 inchers. Lots on jerk baits in 5-8 ft, some on spinnerbaits and quite a bunch dead sticking senko's shallow. Wind was blowing pretty good too later in day. Didn't get out last weekend. Not a big deal, weather was kind of crappy but should have went Saturday morning. I screwed that up. Alarm went of at 4:45 AM, shut it off and fell back asleep until 8:30! d**n! Said screw it, I'll go tomorrow. Got up at 4:45 and lightning was flying and forecast looked bad. Went back to bed again. I'm off work next wed-fri. Going to fish Chisago or N/S Center this weekend, buddy wants to fish Chisago on Wed, then my son and I are heading up north Thurs-Sun. If I remember, I'll report back.
  25. Good score and good luck with that! Have you got the tuna boat too? Too much weird stuff in the ocean for me, I mean some real nightmarish looking freak show "things" that I hope I never see, even on tv again! Ya'll can have it all to yourselves!
