  1. I am one of the lucky one's.... Guntersville is 10 miles from my house.... I have Weiss Lake which is 30 miles..... I have Logan Martin which is about 75 miles and I also have Henry Neely lake which is about 20 miles..... Wheeler lake is about 50 miles away....I have alot to choose from so all I have to worry about it boat gas which isn't bad.......
  2. They might have been cheaper..... But I think the 5/0 one's were around that price... Still they are high priced for hooks.....
  3. Has anyone tried these new hooks.... I saw them while I was looking for some Fat Ika's at a local tackle shop... They are not cheap by no means, I believe they were $4.50 for 5 hooks.....Would these be any better for Fat Ika's that standard EWG hooks? http://www.gamakatsu.com/new_products/new_skipgap.htm
  4. I totally agree.... I have a revo STX-HS and I love it.....I don't think you can go wrong with it.... Also throw in another 10 bucks and get the free bag the are offering...
  5. I think it should be alright to....Like Olebiker I have a 17 foot bass tracker, but I have a 12v 45 pound motor guide trolling motor and it works just fine.... The lake I mainly fish has a pretty good current at times and it holds it's own... But, I think this is one of those situations where bigger is always better....
  6. I have been bass fishing since I was 7 and anytime that I have a couple of hours I try to go fishing.... For me anytime is a good time....Especially Early in the morning and late in the afternoon...
  7. I have the same set-up.... Most of the time I use my spinning reels for my slower presentations.....Mainly because I am what you would call a power fisherman.... I can't stand throwing a senko or something out and letting it sit, or even working it slow.... I want to get it out there and get it back to the boat as fast as I can......If I use spinning for this application for some reason it makes me work it slow.... I know it sounds weird but that is how I do it....Other than jigs I use LH spinning for all my slower applications, and RH bait casting for all my others
  8. I live in North Alabama.... It has been a record setting 100 degree's here for over 2 weeks..... The heat index has been anywhere from 105 to 120 degree's... Wednesday the actual temp is suppose to be 104 without the heat index... .... We are 25 - 30 inches below average rain fall and are labeled in the most severe category for rain fall.... It is really getting bad around here... Local individually owned ponds are drying up and fish are dying left and right... The past few times I have been to the lake the water temp. reaches well over 90 degree's by noon. .... The local weather forecasters say there is no rain in sight.... We are actually glad that it might get down to 99 this Saturday..... I know a lot of people on here especially road warrior says they have caught their PB in this heat of the summer, but in this kind of heat? I mean the Sahara desert has gotten more rain than we have had this year... Is there even any point in fishing in this kind of heat other than early morning and some evenings? Does a big swing like this change the bass's normal habits? I am 23 years old and can't remember it ever being this bad.....
  9. I wish we could get some rain here in north Alabama... It has been over 100 degree's for over 2 weeks straight.... The heat index has been at 120 at times but usually around 106 to 110.... About the only time I can stand to get out is 4 or 5 in the morning to about 11.... then from 6:30 to about 8.... Other than that is is just to hot... I do not night fish because I cannot stand mosquitoes and they are everywhere here.... I think we are still 25 inches below average on rain fall...... :'(
  10. I have never owned a BPS reel but I just got the Viento for my birthday.... I love it..... I have been using it instead of my spinning rig for my plastics here lately.....It seems like it is well built and you can't go wrong with a Daiwa....
  11. I have the revo stx-hs and I love it... I have always been a fan of Garcia's round type reels and when these came out I had to get one.... first off it throws so easily.... I can throw a weightless zoom trick worm a pretty good piece with it, although I usually use spinning gear for that.. I have 40 pound braid on mine... The infinite bait controls lets you get exactly where you need to be so you can really sling those bigger baits also...... The drag is awesome.... I have caught a couple of 7+ pounders on it and can hardly tell I have them on.... If you are thinking of getting one I would say there is not another reel of this quality for these prices... I would say go for it....
  12. I was fishing a 1/2 ounce Lunker buzz bait yesterday and caught a couple.... A couple of minutes later some darn jet skiers came racing by followed by some other recreation boats... I stayed for about 20 mins after that and never got another bite, before I had to leave because they would go by and about the time that the wake calmed down here they came again..... My question is if the water is rough or if there is a lot of wake from other boats, is it worth throwing a buzz bait if the waves are rough.... Or is buzz baits mainly for calm waters??
  13. The southern portion... The farthest I have been is about 3 miles past Mountain Lake Resorts......
  14. Guntersville would be my recommendation
  15. Same thing happened to me last Saturday.... I was coming back up to a dock, but this one was not around beach... It was one boat dock off by it self without nothing around it but factories... There was 3 kids swimming with no parents in sight.... They wouldn't move for nothing.....I kept easing up and easing up until they finally got out of the water.... I went to get the truck and their parents pulled up and told them to get back home and then drove off... How dumb can you be.... After I got the boat out of the water, they jumped right back in......
  16. That is exactly how I am now...... I did think that reel's was the main thing to look at.... Now I am seeing that rods are just as important if not more important than the reel you put on it..... How much of a percent difference do you think the better rod made?
  17. I have 3 bait casters one Abu Garcia 5600, Abu Garcia revo STX, And a Daiwa viento.... On the 5600 I have a $30 Berkley 6'6" med. rod, on the STX I have a $40 Abu Garcia 7' med. Heavy road, and on the Daiwa I have a 7'4" $40 Abu Garcia Med. Heavy rod. My question is how many of you think that more expensive rods are really worth it, like All Star, G. Loomis, St. Croix, Ex....... When purchasing a combo should someone look to buy a more expensive reel and get an ok rod or should they get a ok reel and a really good rod?
  18. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and welcomes... That is a good idea that I have never thought about Road Warrior.... There are tons of guides at Guntersville...... I think I really need to find another map because the one that I bought I bought at Wal-Mart because I couldn't find anywhere else that carried them....The one from wal-mart is cheap and you can tell it..... That is another thing I need to get better at is reading the Fish finder... I have never really had an experience with it... I have 2 eagle 480 that came on the boat.... I have read the manual, stuff off of here and have a pretty good understanding of them but have no confidence yet.... I am going out the whole weekend starting friday night so maybe my luck will change.... I have already mapped out some spots from the map that maybe productive... That might have been my problem last weekend, I just went out and stopped at anyplace that looked good.... I really didn't work the area's as good as I should because I was so impatient....
  19. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am 23 from northern Alabama. The big G is actually 10 miles from my front porch. I have been fishing for as long as I can remember. The only problem is I really have only fished small farm ponds ranging anywhere from a half an acre to 10 acres with none being over 10-12 feet deep. I just recently bought my first bass boat and am having some trouble. I went out last Saturday from 6-1 and caught one dink. Now I know I can't base anything on one outing how much of pond fishing can I take with me to the lake? I mean I can read a pond like the back of my hand, but I am lost at the lake. I bought a lake map and am trying to locate places that would be good to fish. Does anyone have a preference in lake maps or are they all about the same? I am very good with plastic worms, spinner baits, buzz baits, horny toads, and some shallow running crank baits. I have read just about everything on this site the past couple of months and have learned a lot about jigs, Carolina rigs, swim baits, and started using senkos because of this site and have been doing real well with them. I think my biggest problem is just locating where the bass might be. I know all the factors that goes into where they should be its just the fact of finding those characteristics. Once I know where they should be, should I fish it like I would a pond?
