  1. Thats it...Thanks a lot!!!I looked up images and it appears that my pic is a male fathead minnow. The bristles on the nose(breeding tubercles) give it away. In fact I now know there's also females in the pond. We tossed a minnow trap in there the other day and caught the fish pictured in my op and another unknown species(actually its a female fathead). I was coming here to post another pic(the female fathead) of another unknown fish was and now thanks to you guys solved part of this mystery. Now to figure out how they got there. It appears that these minnow are for sale all over the place dirt cheap. The can be used as bait or as ornamental fish in ponds..
  2. The nose was really blunt. Underwater the coloration was almost an orange/yellowish and brown stripe pattern. Interesting about the birds feet suggestion.
  3. and where did it come from? I think this is really interesting. Fishing a friends family owned farm pond. The farm is not a working farm anymore but in the past was used for hay and had cows. Story is 60+ years ago friends grandfather dammed up a stream that came from a slow spring and made a 1/2 acre pond. The dam is built out of cement and drops into a stream that is usually dry. It was stocked over the years with bass and bluegill that he caught in a local lake. Also brought in a bunch of craws. The bass in this pond don't get that big. Biggest I caught was a 3 or so pounder and the largest was a 4 pounder. Its mostly used for kids to have some fun with but we still fish it for fun. Anyways in the 20 years he and I have fished it we have never seen any fish other than the suns and LM. All off a sudden a bunch of these little fish fry show up about 1-2 feet from the shore and appear to have a very sudden but healthy population. No one else fishes it as its in his back yard and its not visable from streets. He hasnt brought anything in either and hes not really happy about it. The bass and sun population is still good and no other fish have ever been caught here or been found dead. I cant see anyway this fish could have come up that stream, climbed a 6 foot concrete wall and jumped into the pond. Any ideas on how this fish suddenly appeared in this pond and what it is? It has tiny whisker like barbs above its upper lip too. I was thinking it may be a carp of some sort. Also..FWIW this pond is in Massachusetts.
  4. Its off Mill Rd in Westborough, which is off RT30. It's ideal for small boats and yaks. Watch out for hidden stumps. It's been a tough fish this year other than early mornings.Sudbury river is slow moving.
  5. Yes they are..when they are wet they are very slippery. My foot slides right out. Great for kayaking though.

  7. I did a biology paper on public bathrooms. It was called "The Bug in the Stall Next to You". I did swabs of 27 different public bathrooms sufaces and toilet splashback...I found: Cold Virus strep staph E-Coli STD's Shingles Hepatitus The worst bacteria contact was not on surfaces it was the water that splashed out when a toilet is flushed. Water splashed as far as 6 feet. That said public bathrooms were actually pretty clean. I also swabbed pool sticks, video games, bowling balls, carriage handles and door handles. The dirtiest were the pool cues. I'd wash my hands if I were you.
  8. If you can get yourself a Kayak there's a few Yak fishing "groups" in Mass that have tourneys.
  9. Wachusett and Sudbury Res(Shore Fishing only)have a very healthy population of Smallies. For Larry's I fish Chauncy, A-1 and Sudbury River. Sud Riv has some decent Esox in it.
  10. Not a huge fan of screamo vocals but that was awesome!!!
  11. Crocs are slippery as snot when wet. If your in and out of the water and climbing youll fall right out of them. Thats why I prefer a decent water shoe like the Keen's. Worth the money IMO.
  12. Sorry I don't have a link or a specific name but Keen Water Shoes work very well for me. I fish a no boat lake frequently and the edges are anything from rock cliffs to sandy and these work well.
  13. This rain/flooding is killing my fishing. Well not completely im still doing well out of my yak but my shore fishing is in the dumps. I fish the Wachusett Res a lot. Its a shallow shore anyways so with the shoreline up 10' feet its tough to fish. Also getting around the lake is next to impossible. d**n!
  14. Those are beautiful...Id love to fish Quabbin sometime!
  15. So I take it we will be doing some rod retrieval on sunday...lol
  16. When they were lost as Disney Land....that was a tense one!
  17. I am a firefighter and I only work 2 days a week....8 days a month. I work 24 hrs on....off 24...on 24...and off for five days. Generally it works out pretty good. I can usually get in about 16 hrs of fishing a week. Which actually is not bad considering I have a 14 month old son.
  18. Thanks for reviving this thread...... Strangest thing I have ever caught... I was fishing a shore fishing only reservoir and I hooked a pair of Vise Grips on a tube.
  19. I think this question along with every other similar question will, and should vary depending on location and what the bass are eating. One pond I fish I use either Buzz Frogs or a Panther Martin Frog. I love letting it sit on a pad for about 45-60 seconds with part of the bait hanging off the pad. The next movement of the bait will usually trigger a strike. Another pond I fish...actually its a lake, the frog baits dont work as well. There I go with a Tiki Stick or Zoom 7" Trick Worm. For these setups I use 65 lb test braided line on a med-heavy action rod. You need the muscle to get the hogs out of the weeds.
  20. Personally, I like to use either a tube or a Senko style worm rigged wacky. I have a nearby smallie lake and I do really well wacky style. I concentrate on deep water rock structure and piles. Remember if you catch them over 28ft deep you should needle their air bladder.
  21. I am from neighboring Mass. A search for Mass brings up similar results. I thionk we have to move to GA. It seems everyone here is from GA. I am always looking for fishing partners.
  22. Oooooh...Good one. I would have to go with Castaic.
  23. So why didnt you just say that in your origional post ....instead of saying you "heard". ???
  24. From Milford,MA....which is about 45 mins outside of Boston.
