  20. When Quanjig and I saw the weather forecast today we knew we had to get out on the Rez. Needless to say the forecasters were wrong yet again. It definitely was not a sunny 55* day. We got to the launch (Bull Run) around 8:30am. My new (used) motor started on the 3rd pull. A welcome relief compared to our maiden voyage a few weeks ago which took a few hours to get her going. The water at Bull Run looked great. It was extremely clear and had no ice. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the Rez. We made it about 200 yards before we ran into ice. Quanjig took the lead and started plowing through. We followed behind. It was definitely a first for me. Plowing through ice on a jon boat creates a very eerie unsettling noise. We had to get through almost a half mile of the ice before hitting our spot. It proved to be well worth it. My buddy, Thai hooked up on his 4th cast. It was a nice fish on a shaky head. It made for great start and a great way to get our confidence going. I believe quanjig caught the next two. They both came off a drop shot. Thai gets hooked up again on a much larger fish. Unfortunately, it shakes the hook at the surface. I think it was close to a 3lber. I didn't get a bite in the first few hours. I finally hook up around mid-day. It was a very solid 3lber. I got her on a drop shot. It turned out to be my only fish. The bite really slowed down in the early afternoon. Thai and I decided to head out when it started to rain. I was a little unprepared for it as I foolishly believed the weatherman! I had no rain gear so we called it a day. Quanjig stayed for another hour or two and I think he caught a few more. All in all, it was a successful and fun trip. I was able to fish with good friends and I got my first January bass on the Rez.
