slender pointer

Featured Replies

i just want to thank the person who started the thread about the slender pointer. i picked up a couple and used them yesterday for the first time during a tourny. i was blown away by the amount of fish i caught on this bait. i caught over 40 bass (mostly 13.9 inches  and it was a 14 inch min) a pickeral, mudfish, cichlids, bream. i love this bait! will this bait catch bigger fish? i was using the ghost shad with the red hooks (which are amazingly sharp) and i was using a steady retrieve with the occasional twitch. kudos to the starter of the slender pointer thread.

Well, I wouldn't want to mess with success, but you were fishing it wrong!

Jerkbaits are not generally fished with a steady retrieve like you might fish a crankbait. The key to jerkbaits is the pause, usually an extended pause this time of year. The cadence will vary, but an example would be: jerk-jerk-pause...jerk-jerk-jerk-pause...jerk-jerk-pause...

Give the "pause" a try and see if that doesn't produce some better fish for you.

Roadwarrior last year I would have said the exact same thing. However last year I threw a 128 pointer and my brother said reel it again we are going to another spot. I am just burning this thing in when boom. We had been fishing with these things all morning with no success. This is one of my go to baits. Anyway we slaughtered them the rest of the day using a steady retrieve. I would go back and try the normal twitching with no luck. So everytime that I am throwing a jerkbait I will always give a steady retrieve at least a fair chance.

If one way don't work try another it may i've seen that wind alittle then stop then wind again that may work

Different days different retrievesI tend to experiment, and all from above work, but my most productive retrieve is steady retrieve mixed with barely noticeable pauses. And yes SP is one of my favorite lures.
