I'm thinking of trying braid for the first time on two of my baitcasters. One is.a 7' medium fast loomis glx with a curado 50e and the other is a 7'med hvy xfast dobyns dx703c with a curado 200e. I will be throwing only baits under 1 oz in pretty light cover. I was thinking of trying 30 pound power pro with a fluoro leader in really clear water. Do you think I will have any problems with lures snapping off during casts with the 30lb line?

If you are going to use a leader anyway, just use 50 lb power pro. It will be easier to tie to a 12-20 lb flouro leader.

50lb has a diameter equivalent to 12lb mono while 30lb has a 8lb equivalent. I was hoping to get away with a smaller diameter for longer casts and less visibility for times when I don't use a leader

power pro is so slick through the guides that there is not a noticeable difference between 30 and 50

I would skip braid all together and just spool straight fluorocarbon. Your fishing in light cover, and clear water. You really dont need braid. If your going to be using plastics or any other sort of semi-slack line technique, braid will feel dead and you'll be able to feel stuff with flouro.

However if your using cranks or a reaction type bait, just go with straight braid in 50#

get powerprosuper slick regular power pro is outdated.never go lower than 50 lb with braid on a baitcaster.the 30 will dig and give you less distance.50 will handle awesome.leafrs are not needed.

The reason I want to try braid is that it lasts longer an is less expensive in the long run than fluoro. I can probably get 3 reels spooled with one 300 yard spool of braid as long as I use mono backing. I have 4 setups and buying different size fluoro for each one every few months can be expensive. I figure if I can spool my baitcasters with one size of braid using leaders when needed, and just use fluoro on my spinning reel it will be way less expensive in the long run.

Go with 50# as the others say. Casting distance is overrated anyway.

If your main problem is a lure snapping off, it's all about tying a proper knot. If you plan on using a leader, which I always do, and in my case I use anywhere between 15-40# leader depending on my rod and reel, target species and cover. The test pound of the braid will not cause the lure to break off. Whether you tie your leader on or use a swivel, is incidental to your knot strength to the lure. I use nothing but a loopknot for lures, use what works best for you. I use an ordinary clinch knot for 1.5 oz cuda tubes, they never snap off.

This is a knot issue, not a line issue.

As deep says, distance is over rated.

I use 65# Spiderwire no problems
