My lake wish list to try fishing this year is Northwood lake, Pleasant lake and Merrymeeting lake. Is Pleasant lake accessible for boats over 18ft?

Northwood is what lake my camp is on I've been fishing there since I was in diapers my great grandpa holds the lake record of an 8lb 14oz bass. I am also aware of some biggens in the lake as I've seen them jump at dusk my biggest on the lake is a 5lb 7oz Largemouth and my great Uncle caught a 4lb 8oz Smallie on the lake too.

Yes, Pleasant Lake has an easy boat ramp to get down, plenty of parking, and is a decent lake for larger boats. There are some sections with shallow rocks, so beware. It get a lot of boating pressure in the summer, but I have caught some decent largemouth there.

I will be doing both and I am lucky enough I get out at noon time at work so can fish the week days on the lakes that get crowded on the weekends. As long as the shallows have markers I should be safe plus the GPS will be active for sure. Pleasant Lake looks interesting because of the depth so there must be a good smallie population there? Northwwood lake I always see on rt 4 but I never stop there.

Shaky head floating worms any one have any success? This really has my interest in the clear waters I fish.

Northwood gets a lot of pressure in the summer. Sometimes the fishing is great sometimes it sucks. Best places to fish are the deep weeds out around 10-13 ft its not the deepest lake, but if you can find the pockets of cover in that depth you should do pretty well. Places to avoid on that lake are the obvious places such as to the west side of the lake where there is large rock clifs running into the water. If you cruise about 100 yards away from the public beach near the boat ramp there is some good deep weeds over there I have caught multiple big bass over there and my uncle caught his 4lb smallie over there.

I was out on the ice on Sunday and got a perch, 5 pickerel and 8 largemouth. Biggest was only 2.5 pounds, but it was still a beautiful morning until the wind picked up.

pretty sure Shane was thinking of fishing on a boat, making sunday less than ideal.

Hey guys I got a question for you all that use roof racks to transport your fishing boats. As of now my 4x4 SUV **** the bed so I had to get a new car. I bought a 2013 Honda Civic. Being this my old truck I could just throw the canoe right on top and go fish whenever. Well this isn't the case for this car as it is brand new and I don't want to risk scratching or damaging it in anyway. So my question is do any of you have any roof racks that you would recommend for a car that I could put my canoe on and also I would preferably want some that are not permanent so that I can take them off the car when needed.

Also how heavy should I go for a bullet weight on my Texas Rigs if I plan to fish 10-20ft deep?

what about just using those foam chunks to put canoe on your roof.

It depends on how fast you won't the fall of your bait to be, how fast you want to fish the bait, and whether you in 10 or 20 ft...

 

If I had to make a GENERAL suggestion for that depth I'd say 3/8oz

Summer time I would go 1/8 or 3/8 for the 20ft mark 1/8 to weightless for the 10 and under. fall and spring I would start with 3/8 for both depths.

20' I'd be on more like 3/4oz. If there's any wind at all, go with the heavier weight.  Oh, and yeah, use foam noodles for your canoe.

I have a question regarding the legality of the Donkey Rig or double fluke rig in New Hampshire. I understand that the Alabama Rig is illegal in NH due to having multiple hooks and lures. However 

 

RSA 207:1 I Angling: The taking of fish by line in hand, or rod in hand to which is attached a cast of artificial flies, or an artificial bait, or hooks or other devices for the attachment of bait. A person may have in use not more than 2 such lines at one time. Nothing in this title shall prohibit the use of a rod-holder in a boat.

 

I'm not trying to start a debate, I'm simply curious." The A person may have in use not more than 2 such lines at one time" says to me that it is legal for me to use the rig because it is technically only 2 lines. If I were only fishing with one rod that would be legal.

You can use the Alabama rig you are only allowed one hook on the rig. the two line article I would imaging pertains to people who troll for fish on lakes or ponds. If you ever have any doubts call Suds-n-Soda in Greenland, NH they are my go to people that can answer anything on the laws. Or the Game Warden they are nicer then everyone thinks.

That sure was a lunker. I might never catch another bass that big, but I sure will try ! She must be bigger by now. Scales I took from her were aged at 16+ years old. She was spawned in 1998 !

is anyone else going stur crazy with this weather?  i'm really hoping for a short winter.  would love to take a trip down south to ease the pain.

That is awesome! Did you do the aging yourself or send it somewhere to be tested? I am interested becasue that would be cool to do with any monster bass.

I had them aged by the Maine bass biologist.
