I have a g loomis mossy back 7'5 flipping stick, 1/4-1 oz , absolutely love the rod, perfectly balanced, light and sensitive. I wish the rating was 1 1/4 oz, I dont often need much more than 1 oz but the odd time I do, Would I be taking a chance throwing a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 oz weight?

I have the same rod, but mines an IMX custom. You can fish a heavy a heavier lure, you just need to be carefull while casting. If you are pitching, you can use most any lure with no problem, but you can break the rod if you load it real heavy and try to cast it a mile. I have done this. JMHO

Agree with Ronnie. With the heavier lure just avoid the hard snap-cast and there should be no problem.

If you haven't exceeded the limit of the rod a snap cast should not do any harm. One disadvantage to a snap cast, if using braided line, is the line coming off the spool very fast, then hitting the first guide resulting in a possible wind knot. A long flowing cast will reduce windknots and put less stress on your rod, I get more distance that way too. At about the 2 minute mark of this video there is an inset showing how line can get hung up on the first guide. It's happened to me.

I agree as well. exceeding the lure weight, especially on a heavy rod like that should not be a problem. Just take it a little easy.
