Bass Caught On 10 April

Featured Replies

Hey guys. It has been quiet sometime since I have posted anything on here. However, I thought I would share this picture with you and tell the story that goes along with it.

We have five ponds on the base I am stationed at right now and I try to fish them as much as possible during lunch. I thought I had already missed the spawn this year because it has been so warm here in Beaufort, SC since mid Feb. In one of the ponds (really clear water) the bass have already spawned and all that is left are empty beds that you can see very easily from the bank because of the clear water. The fish in the clear pond were finished spawning two to three weeks ago. But, the pond I caught this fish in is just now starting to show some beds. I caught this fish right on the outside of a bed that you can only see wearing polarized shades and I counted five or six other beds right down the bank from where I caught this one.

My question is...I thought the weather and moon phases had the most effect on bass when they spawn? Why are the fish in this pond spawning later than the fish in the other pond?

Nice Bass. Thanks for your service.

First and foremost, thank you for your service! Secondly, nice bass! My guess on the difference in spawn times would either be dirtier water, or maybe one is spring fed, causing it to have cooler water. Is the later of the two ponds always full?

Thanks guys! I have enjoyed the last 7 years in the Corps serving this great Country. I sent the picture to my wife's stepdad and he said, "look at my tax dollars hard at work!" I told him that I only fish during my lunch break when I wouldn't be at work anyhow...lol.

Good to see someone from the area on here! What base are you at?

One pond may be warming faster than the other
