How Do You Transport Your Rods?

Featured Replies

How do you guys transport your rods at home to your favorite fishing spot? When I'm going kayak fishing, I put them in a jumbo Plano rod/reel tube that holds six to eight rigs and put it next to my kayak in my truck bed. When I'm going shore fishing, I'm usually with my girlfriend so we take her car, I use her hair band to round up 8 rods together and slide all of them inbetween the seats. ( Sedan ).

Rod Sleeves, reel covers, and all bundled together with a tarp bungees:

strap them to the deck of the boat.

if i drive to launch to meet someone, i'll lay them down in the back of my truck with the reel handles down so the reel is not laying on its side.

I'm not too worried about boat rash/scratches on my equipment. Even if they are 500 dollar combos. I do try to handle carefully though. Its hard to avoid and when you do worry about it you tend to get stressed about it.

Lay them down in the back of the SUV with half of the back seat down.

Sometimes they get tangled but for 99% of the time they are ready to go.

Pass thru the trunk, room for about 6 rods, 8 footers with room to spare.

i put three of my rodes inside my kayak and tie it in my car and off i go

Rod Slix, strapped in the boat or slid into the lower part of the kayak. Sometimes in the bed of the truck.

My rods are strapped to the bench seats in my boat while traveling.

rod sleeves help and i wrap them together with a velcro type strap made for that purpose.

If I'm driving any appreciable distance I use these.

I drive a Suburban, so it's an ideal set-up for me. It leaves the floor clear for all the moonshine I smuggle. :D

At any other time I use Stick Jackets and stow them in the rod locker of my boat.

Rod sleeves reel covers. I put them in the back seat of my truck with the tips angled towards the passenger front seat.

For short trips with the boat, they are in the rod locker or strapped to the deck. Long trips or in the truck bed (when fishing in someone else's boat) they all go in rod socks/reel bags.
