In haven't fished that area in years. But since your pretty munch Mobil. You can go any were. What every you do since you in a small boat. Stay off the main canal. Way to munch boat traffic this time of year. Sawyer harbor, little sturgeon bay, and around the rock quarry are pretty good. Just be careful in a little boat. Its not uncommon to get 3ft waves all of a sudden on there.

 

Kangaroo and clark lake are also great lakes. There both inland. Clark lake is about 15 miles north east of sturgeon bay. Just off of 57. Kangaroo is just north of clark lake. Also on 57.

I did end up going up, but the Northern wind was not very nice to me in a kayak.  I found a bay with some good structure and marked fish, but I couldn't position myself and fish effectively too.  I marked almost all of my fish in 14-16 feet of water where I was.  I wanted to try the islands out of penn. state park or the sister islands, but mother nature had other plans.  

 

I will try to make it up some other time before I leave Wisconsin to go back to school.

Going to be up in God's country the second week of September.  Can anyone recommend a good smallmouth guide?  I'll be from Green Bay to Washington Island.  GO PACKERS

There are a lot of guides in the that neck of the woods. I have only heard a few bad things. But those ones are usually chater boats. But of course I think the captains ego might have to play in to that. My family use to know a lot of them. They all had major egos on the boat.  Off the boat they were nice as can be.

 

If I was you I would hit lake-link.com. And do some digging on there. People on that forum. Are always willing to help others. Some are even nice enough. That if you will be in the same area at the same time. They might take you out. For a whole lot cheaper then a guide. Most people very on what they want. A lot of its gas, food, or simple things like that.

 

I am not saying they will get you a fish. But you could pay a lot of money to a guide. And get the same result.

I sure feel for you guys that live up here year round. I know you had a very long winter and now it's looking like a very short summer, too. I'm about at the end of my 2 months stay here in North Central Wisc, and there were sure not a lot of nice days this summer, weather-wise. It was suppose to be dry this morning so thought I'd get some fishing in, but it's been raining steady since at least 4am. I lived in MN for 35 years before moving south, so I know what it's like. But this year seems to be a really cool and wet one.

 

Bass fishing has been good to very good most of the summer, though. Still, looking forward to getting back on some southern impoundments, or flowages as y'all call 'em.

I was up near lake tomahawk last week, didn't expect it to get that cold. caught a lot of northerns but only about 10 bass. explored a lot of the smaller lakes and caught some smallmouth from shore. still was a nice week though

As a smallie nut that only gets to practice being a smallie nut for a week each year I am up for any Northwoods suggestions. I just love the northwoods of Wisconsin. Live in SE Iowa, we have no smallies to speak of! Like to get away from it all and try to get that 6 pound smallie. When I do, I will get her picture and then gently place her back in the water. I am strictly a CPR fisherman and I know many of you are as well. I have fished Turtle Flambeau and The Gile Flowage. Both fun bodies of water to fish and wondering if my bride of 41 years and I should be trying something else up that way. Any tips for lake wapogasset

Heading to Lake Thirty by Cumberland this weekend, anyone ever heard of it?  I saw a nice stringer of 3-5 lbers caught earlier this summer.

gonna be up in rhinelander/lake tomahawk later this month and over columbus day weekend, anybody have any tips for fall fishin up north?

Yea more then likely. The water will be colder. killing frost usually happens in a few weeks. After that the nights don't get munch warmer then 35-50. The water also usually drops temps pretty fast after that happens. So after that happens. The bass gear gets put away. Then the muskie gear comes out. Not saying its hard to catch bass. You just have to work a whole lot more.

Its been a very slow late summer/fall for me, somewhat relieved to read threads on here today that it has been the case for many others across the country.  Finally at least 'saw' some decent sized bass in the last week but no takers...3 swimming  as a school in a creek between 2 of Madison's lakes (Monona and Wingra) that were each about 12" long, and a 10" follow in a former gravel quarry about 5 min from my house.  I broke my bassin' reel on Sunday, so unsure if I'll be getting a cheap replacement from a buddy until I get a better one for Xmas...might be limited to t-rig on my ultralight to end the season.

 

In reference to Devil's Lake, I've read good reports from friends on Facebook and from guys on lake-link, but haven't experienced any success myself.  Know of a reliable spot up there now, but the one time I hit it a few weeks ago, it was quite windy and guessed they had gone deep for the day.  Same spot holds trout in November, will be trying to get out there once or twice and see if I can break this 3 month skunk I'm on.
